Background

Reiku was born in the providence of Ilithi not far from the city of shard. An only child of an Elothean couple, the family was very pleased when he turned out to be Savant. As he grew his parents started to notice a cruel arrogance about him, and thus determined careful management of their son was in order. It was decided when he was of age he would join the Empath's guild and become member of the house of the Verdant Lilly. there he would be able to do great things as his savant nature would imply but those great things would be to the benefit of the lands instead of its bane.

As most young men are not often drawn to the idea of healing and pacifism Reiku with his quick wit and silver-tongue decided to prove himself to his family and friends. At the age of 15 he was able to convince his best friend to go with him to hunt a goblin. The boys ignorant of the true danger of the task set out and upon encountering their first goblin quickly found out, goblins rarely travel alone.

The fight was short, and not in the boys' favor. Barely alive, Reiku dragged the body of his friend with him, in a panicked bolt for survival. Coming to the river's edge he tumbled down the steep banks keeping firm grip on his friend. the pair were swept by the current until finally Reiku was able to grab the under structure of a bridge. He clung there for his life; refusing to release his friend's body making it impossible for him to pull himself to safety. For more than half a day he clung to the structure until finally his pleas were heard by a traveler who went for help.

Later, after the funeral, Reiku over come with grief and guilt took his place in the Empath's guild, and then in turn took his vow of pacifism to enter the house of the Verdant Lilly. In addition to that vow he place another upon himself, a vow of silence, he would never again talk a friend into their death.

From the experience he has developed an underlying dread of water, specifically running water, which is evident when he is near a river bank or ferry crossing. Though 19 years have passed since his friend's death, Reiku still rarely talks. Breaking his silence only when there is no other way and the message is of grave importance.
