The skylights curve down like a canopy over this small chamber, enclosing the northeastern hemisphere in a bubble of translucent, glittering crystal. A polished bronze telescope is here for students of the stars, but most visitors come just for the breathtaking view. From here, one can see for miles past the towers and streets of Shard, all the way to the walls of Leth Deriel in the far distance. You also see a hunchbacked Shadow Servant and the silvery-white shard Marendin.

Location: Therenborough, marked on the map as "Tear of Grazhir" (http://elanthipedia.com/wiki/RanikMap42)

[Gealeranendae College, Tear of Grazhir Exhibit]
Rising and vanishing into darkness, the circular walls are home to four marble gargoyles that stare balefully from their perches at the silvery-white shard imbedded deeply into the floor's center. A single plaque of brass and silver is fastened in the stones near the exit. Otherwise unadorned, the room is thick with shadows, no sconces or torches to help shed illumination. You also see an arch and a stone turtle.
Obvious exits: none.

>foc shard
[Assuming you mean the silvery-white shard Dinegavren.]
You focus your magical senses on the silvery-white shard Dinegavren.
The shard is generating a tiny amount of Lunar mana, linking it solidly to the microcosm.
You sense that the vast majority of the shard's energies are tied into streams of mana which connect it to some great source in the distance.
Reaching past the shard, you sense that the streams of Grazhir's mana flow swiftly and are suffering from minor disruptions.
A distinct and vibrant pattern of Stellar Magic is set within the shard, the result of a ritual naming.
You recognize this as the shard Dinegavren and forge a connection to it through the magical pattern.

[Telpengi'hhs Sara'a, Embalming Chamber]
Grime of ages untold sullies the walls, the dankness and layered soot blanketing everything until the room appears like something from a demented painter's twisted nightmare vision, or a place where the souls of the deceased rage for eternity. Thick with filth, the details of the ceiling and walls are obscured, sharpening the contrast of the silvery-white shard of stone inset into the ornate pedestal that rests in the center of the chamber.
Obvious exits: south.

You focus your magical senses on the silvery shard Asharshpar'i.

Location: Crossing, just past the stairs and before the water area (http://elanthipedia.com/wiki/RanikMap8a)

[Observatory, Foyer]
A sweeping staircase draped with a royal blue carpet descends from the first floor of the observatory into this mahogany-walled foyer. A long, velvet-padded bench runs along the wall beside a gilded archway to the east. A narrower corridor opens to the north, the passage dimly lit by flickering torches. You also see the silvery-white shard Rolagi.
Obvious exits: north.

While I don't have exact numbers for you, based on my own anecdotal evidence I think Shards can be split into 4 groups of difficulty. Maybe it will help.

Group I - Easy
Mintais (Throne City)
x-Dinegavren (Therenborough)
x-Asharshpar'i (Leth Deriel)
Emalerje (Lesser Fist)
Taniendar (Riverhaven)

Group II - The jumble in the middle
x-Rolagi (Crossing)
Dor'na'torna (Hibarn)
x-Marendin (Shard)
Tabelrem (Muspar'i)

Group III - Hard
x-Auilusi (Aesry)
Tamigen (Raven's Point)
Dor'na'torna (Arid Steppes)

Group IV - Hardest
Erekinzil (Taisgath)
Besoge (Mer'Kresh) - Hardest in the game, I wouldn't try until at least 350 in arcana, scholarship, and astrology. Even then you might want some CJs.
