The ACTION command is used to perform freeform acts.

Syntax

  • ACTION <act>
(<Person> <act>)
  • ACTION 's <act>
(<Person>'s <act>)
  • ACTION , <act>
(<Person>, <act>)

In addition, there are special symbols that will allow enhanced "targeting."

  • :<target>' - Act with a target specified, such as another player or a nearby object.

When acting with a {target} specified, some special rules are applied to the action:

  • @ characters will be replaced by the target's name or short description.
  • # characters will be replaced with a possessive pronoun (his/her/its), as appropriate for the gender of the target. The target will see 'your'.
  • % characters will be replaced with an object pronoun (him/her/it), as appropriate for the gender of the target. The target will see 'you'.

Note that these characters will only be replaced if they appear before a space, at the end of your action, or immediately before a period (.), question mark (?), exclamation point (!), semi-colon (;), or comma (,).

Use

This command is most often used to accomplish things either not covered by other commands, or to give extra detail.

As per Simutronics policy, this command should not be used to bypass situations where the character has been rendered unable to talk[1]

Ettiquette

It is considered poor roleplaying for this command to be used to portray abilities, powers, or features not commonly associated with the character's race or class.

It is considered rude to use this command to bypass commands normally blocked by DEMEANOR.

This command should never be used to "fake" any other character's reaction. All actions created by this verb should relate to the acting character or non-entities such as environment.

Policy

ACTION and ACT's are *not* a substitute for speech. Do not use it to get around situations where you are unable to speak except to use appropriate gestures that convey meaning.
