Backstory

Vetair was born on the 7th day of the 5th month of Uthmor the Giant in the year of the Bronze Wyvern, 379 years after the victory of Lanival the Redeemer. He is an orphan; both of his parents died, his father of battle injuries and his mother of illness, several months after his birth. He and his five-years-older sister Divala grew up together in a predominantly Human village in the Dragonspine that he refers to as "Blackleaf." (It is not known if that is the true name of the village or if he is merely being cautious.) Little is known of his childhood and youth, though he has mentioned working as a potboy in and helping in the kitchen of a Blackleaf pub known as the Morose Monkey.

Due to Vetair and Divala being orphaned so very young and being cared for by humans rather than elves, both grew up ignorant both of their people and of elven history. They do not know their parents' clan or even their own last name. As a result, Vetair tends to be a bit shy around elves, especially those of noted family who can identify their clans, as they make him feel like a fraud. Indeed, he is painfully aware that even his style of speech is characteristically human.
