Coulin grew up on a farm with his parents four sisters and a brother, south of Leth. During the Lyras incursion one of his sisters, was killed during a raid on Leth Deriel.
Too young to join the fight he toiled on the farm until he was seventeen and old enough to leave. His only goodbye was in the form of a note for his mother, fearing what she might do if he told her in person. He set off for Crossing with nothing but ferry money in his pockets and a whistle on his lips.
When he first arrived he tried to apprentice himself to a blacksmith, hearing it was one of the most lucrative professions in the world. Finding it much like the farm he had left (it was hard work) he soon quit and found he had a knack for theft.
He was noticed by a gentleman who was himself casing a shop where Coulin was caught with his fingers in the till. After a conversation with the gentleman, made possible due to his incarceration in the town stocks, he sought out the Guild and after a week of searching became guilded in his niche talent.
Since his encounter and subsequent guilding he has been all over Kermoria at various times but always returns to Crossing for the noise and action.
A bit of a ladies man he has been known to take a particular interest in married women stating candidly, "Single ladies...you have a'smooch n'a laugh with em and they start thinkin' yer steady. You have a'laugh n'a snuggle with a'married lady and they aint lookin' t'bridle you...they got one in th'barn already."
Though he flirts almost incessantly he claims he's madly in love with one woman in particular though most believe it a jest.
After finding a comfortable routine, he's settled into his life and has visited home twice, going back the first time for his eldest sister's wedding and the latest to help bring in the fall harvest.
Trivia:

Quote: Coulin says, "Some ladies you can have a'chat wif an' that's a fine thing cause you can enjoy their company and the look a'em. Then 'gan some ladies don't want nothin' to do wif a charmer and just as soon spit as look at ya. Those are the ones you enjoy from a ways back, mind. They all lovely though an' there's nuffin wrong with makin' em smile."
