Talmarin's Way
While many of his kind are known for their aptitude toward magic, Talmarin was never capable of fulfilling those expectations. In fact, it turned out that it was quite the opposite; he had a natural talent for disrupting magic and its influences. Aware that their son would never rise to follow in the family's magic-based traditions, Talmarin's parents sent him to study first under the masters at Siressa Nijare'a in their home city of Aesry Surlaenis'a. It was not exactly a traditional upbringing for an Elothean living in Qi, but the young man grew up understanding the value of a disciplined body with honed reflexes.
Talmarin eventually left Aesry for the mainland as his instructors advised, explaining that he should seek out the warrior Agonar. After a relatively torturous period under the steel-eyed guild master that required severe physical conditioning and hardship, Talmarin ventured south to Ilithi to seek out the renowned Elven swords-woman, T'kiel. It was here that his previous training on Aesry was brought to its peak, as she taught the young man how to utilize his blades with precision and deadly speed. Quickly attaining the rank of Blademaster, Talmarin's philosophy was slowly polished and hardened with each passing day, simplified into a singular, consuming purpose: pure perfection of his body's movements and his martial power.
While not as hateful of magic and its wielders as many of his Barbarian brethren, Talmarin's complete acceptance of it was altered sharply during the events leading up to the invasion by the undead hordes of Lyras. Having witnessed the dangers first-hand of the power of mages gone awry, he has begun even harsher mental disciplining and training himself specifically to combat those who would use magic for truly perverse purposes. However, to him it is not some crusade-like obsession, it is merely a natural extention of his desires to hone himself into the most powerful of weapons.
He walks the world seeking challenges, willing to take up any cause and allowing himself to be used by almost any faction as long as doing so brings him closer to his ideal. He has been known to occasionally turn against those who hire him if the jobs they send him on are either too mundane or pursue objectives he seems to arbitrarily decide are against his best interests. He cares nothing for intrigue, politics, or economy save for that which allows him to further his training. He believes that the only strength that truly matters is that found internally, that the strength of any individual sufficiently trained can topple the most powerful monarchs and most influential criminal syndicates when their swords cannot touch him. When asked why he has so diligently taken up the hammer in the forge to create weaponry for market if he cares so little for the economics behind it, Talmarin answered "Because within the metal is my meditation. The rest is simply details for the traders to wring their hands over. When you learn to listen to the way metal speaks, your opponent's own sword will scream its intentions to you."
His current whereabouts are unknown, but rumor has it that he was seen in the company of several unsavory looking men before he disappeared.
Treasured Possessions
a massive black steel blade with a handle loosely wrapped in eventide nightsilk
Two hands wide and as tall as an adult man, the huge blade has been forged from flawless steel and treated with an odd black lacquer that gives it the appearance of still water in the dark of night. Long, unevenly cut lengths of eventide nightsilk wrap around the nearly haft-length handle, the excess trailing off the pommel. Silver-etched on the blade in an angular, angry looking script surrounded by tumbling bamboo leaves is the weapon’s name – “Silence”.
a crimson glaes bastard sword gold etched with tortuous briar vines
Wounds on the steel wing guard and feather-carved ebony handle bleed thin trails of gold that flow down the grip's contours and coalesce into a diving shrike pommel. Etchings in the rich crimson blade depict winding briar vines with battered, silver-tipped feathers crushed between their claw-like thorns. You see the initials "R. R." impressed into the surface of the metal.
