You take a sip of the coffee -- quite bitter!

Valenal says, "Oh!  That is good to know.  Many humans lack one or both eyes due to circumstances or birth.  That will save time."

You settle yourself on the cushioned swing.

Valenal says to you, "We were discussing a human male with two eyes, one head, two legs, two arms, known as Asildu."

Valenal says, "And I asked the human...male??  Avrenka...who Asildu said he represented."

Valenal says, "And Avrenka didn't know, which makes sense because we humans often look very similar and say things that don't make sense."

Valenal glances at a braided lead rope.

Leilanie gnaws on her lip.

Avrenka says to Valenal, "Hah! You hit it right on the arm."

A brilliant orb of rippling cerulean light spins slowly through the air, orbiting Xenxeth's body like a miniature, luminous moon.

You say, "If there's one thing I've learned about you Humans, it's that."

You nod.

Avrenka just nudged Valenal.

Leilanie says to Valenal, "Rope isn't food."

Valenal glances at Leilanie.

Valenal hesitantly says, "Oh, haha, yes, of course.  I knew that."

Avrenka says, "What she means is, rope isn't USUALLY food ... but it can be a food if prepared correctly."

Avrenka just nudged Leilanie.

Avrenka asks Leilanie, "Right, Leilanie?"

Leilanie says, "Oh, I suppose it could be."

Leilanie says, "If one tried hard enough and had the stomach for it."

You observe Valenal with fascination.

Avrenka says to Valenal, "Pardon my Elven friend, she isn't as familiar with Human foods sometimes."

Leilanie leans over and whispers, "The strangest thing, isn't it?"

You ask Valenal, "I know OF him yes, but I can't say I know much about him. Why do you ask?"

Valenal nervously says to you, "I am investigating.  Doing investigation things."

You say, "Uh... huh."

Leilanie says to Valenal, "You're doing a fine job."

Leilanie nods to Valenal.

Avrenka asks Valenal, "Are you concerned for Asildu? For his safety?"

Valenal cautiously asks, "In a way.  He is here on the Plane of Abiding, which is part of a system of interconnected planes that exchange energy in a constant way, right?"

Avrenka says, "Of course he is, we've already established that."

You say, "And of course that's what they do, everyone knows."

Valenal says, "So in a sense, he is in as much danger as everyone else is.  And so since he inherits the property of being part of "everyone else", I suppose I am concerned about his welfare."

Valenal nods.

Avrenka says, "Ah."

Valenal says, "But more directly, I believe him to be a liar."

You angle your ears forward, gazing curiously at Valenal.

Leilanie cocks her head at Valenal.

Avrenka raises an eyebrow.

Valenal says, "And to represent thieves."

Valenal ponders.

Valenal says, "Maybe."

Avrenka asks, "A liar ... about what, praytell?"

Valenal nods.

Valenal hesitantly asks, "Well, I'm not sure.  What did he say?"

You grumpily say, "A lot, and not much."

Valenal asks you, "Did he say who he represented?"

Avrenka asks Valenal, "If you are concerned for his welfare, what will you do if you find him?"

You say, "Not that I recall? He called himself a scholar, but didn't say from where."

Valenal quietly says to himself, "Don't say disassemble his consciousness and ship it for analysis."

You gaze silently at Valenal.

Valenal says to Avrenka, "Oh, ah, definitely no that.  Ha ha."

Avrenka smiles at Valenal.

Valenal says, "That was a joke."

Avrenka laughs!

You glance at Avrenka, a male Human.

You laugh!

Avrenka says, "You have quite the talent for humor, my human friend."

You say, "Oh, I get it."

Leilanie grins.

Valenal says to himself, "This is not going very well."

Valenal slowly empties his lungs.

Avrenka says, "I too have made jokes about disassembling my friends via Partial Displacement, but none have laughed."

Leilanie frowns.

A simple folding table and some canvas chairs make the Empaths' Guild library quickly transformable into an emergency room in case the wounded overflow from the hospital's facilities.  In this spartan and spotless chamber, oft-read works on healing, herbs, medicinals, and other empathic arts fill a long shelf against the wall.  You also see a wooden sign.

A swirling vortex of brilliant light spins across the area.

Raw energies rupture near Zanaide, leaving her looking pale and drained.

Allye concentrates for several moments, a greedy expression on her face.

A strong mana surge is abruptly erased from existence!

Allye angles her ears forward, gazing curiously at Valenal.

Valenal says, "This is the result of a net outflow of energy from this Plane to somewhere else."

Valenal says, "It happens in small, discrete chunks."

Allye raises an eyebrow.

Valenal says, "Yes, through...ah..observation...it has been determined that spell casting is associated with each outflow."

Allye tilts her head, clearly curious about something.

Valenal says, "With local fluctuations in energy density depending on various metaphysical factors."

Witterwell briefly spreads her arms outward and begins a chanted cadence.  The steady sounds draw away little of your attention as they fade into the background.

Allye gnaws on her lip.

Avrenka says, "One would hope energy is non-locally stable."

Avrenka chuckles.

Iryta nods to Avrenka.

Iryta grins, revealing her dimples.

Witterwell melodiously says, "I'm locally unstable."

You say, "Be pretty terrible if it was instable non-locally."

Witterwell nods emphatically.

Valenal says, "Well, it's a lot of math...."

Rejind says to Valenal, "But if sorcery and the interaction of different frequencies of mana cause a net inflow...what is happening to make the outflow so high? The net out should equal, or nearly equal, the net in if the system were to remain balanced."

Avrenka begins to advance on Valenal.

Avrenka says to Valenal, "Who is Liraxes."

You move over to guard Valenal.

Valenal calmly exclaims, "Please consider what...ahh!!"

Avrenka closes to pole weapon range on Valenal.

Valenal flails his arms about.

You protect Valenal from being engaged.

Avrenka closes to melee range on you!

You blink at Avrenka.

Iryta rests her hand on Avrenka's arm with a soft smile.

Taruc blinks.

Valenal retreats from combat.

Amailia asks, "Uh?"

Iryta shakes her head at Avrenka.

Valenal flails his arms about.

Taruc gazes off into the distance.

Rifkinn raises an eyebrow.

Leilanie assesses her combat situation.

Shavay sighs.

Witterwell frowns.

Avrenka smiles broadly.

Avrenka says to Valenal, "That was a joke, friend."

Shavay says, "Another reason people should be hanging out in the Infirmary instead."

Witterwell frowns.

Avrenka laughs!

Witterwell melodiously says, "Don't be mean."

You say to Valenal, "You know that Human sense of humor. It's so inscrutable."

Valenal says, "Ah, ha ha, a joke.  Yes, of course."

Witterwell squints at Avrenka.

Iryta says, "Maybe we should stop touching the guy."

Avrenka clears his throat.

Witterwell melodiously exclaims, "Ok, Go home safely!"

Iryta glares at Rifkinn.

Avrenka ponders.

You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs.

Reriyn says, "I've met some odd people before, and he was up there."

Leilanie slowly says, "That was the strangest thing."

Allye says to Avrenka, "He did seem to avoid that question, multiple times."

But you are not holding a silver urn of strongly-brewed dark roast coffee.

Allye nibbles her lip thoughtfully.

Avrenka nods to Allye.

You guzzle down the coffee.

You finish off the rest of it, and set the mug aside.

Iryta says, "I dont think he was a people."

Shavay chuckles.

Avrenka says, "I do not trust him for that one reason."

Rifkinn asks Iryta, "Do i know you?"

Witterwell melodiously says, "I liked him."

Leilanie nods at Iryta, obviously agreeing with her views.

Reriyn says, "I dont think he was a person either."

Inouvu makes a holy gesture and intones reverently, "Huldah, hear my plea!"

He suddenly exudes a malevolent, dark aura of divinity.

Shavay asks, "Which question?"

Rifkinn observes Iryta with fascination.

Witterwell sits down on the cushioned swing.

Leilanie says, "Certainly not."

Allye says, "Any question about Liraxes."

Iryta rubs her windsteel shark, and it shudders slightly.

Shavay asks, "Who's that?"

Allye says, "Exactly."

Reriyn says, "He was very rushed to leave, like something would happen to him if he stayed."

Avrenka says, "Also, he muttered something about "catching us in the act" at the Astral Observatory."

You say, "He said something earlier about having limited time here."

Iryta says, "Well I mean, there are some threatening people here."

Reriyn nods to you.

Leilanie says, "The eating rope."

Witterwell melodiously says, "Maybe he was scared."

Reriyn asks, "So he was open about that then?"

A faint growl echoes from the depths of Eleandra's shadow.

Iryta waves to Nawain.

Nawain waves to Iryta.

Reriyn says, "So we can say he was honest with at least one thing."

Avrenka says, "It does not make sense that sorcery is the solution, when sorcery seems to have been the cause of the problem."

Amailia says, "Somehow, I doubt he is behind this, worst case, he's serving someone who is, but... I don't know, doubtful."

Rifkinn asks Iryta, "So, thats two derogatory comments, and one concerning expression.  Do i need to remind people how i take such actions?"

Allye nods in agreement.

Rifkinn casually observes the area.

Shavay asks, "So let me get this straight - two oddballs show up this evening, one stating how sorcery is ruining everything, and the other saying how not using sorcery is helping things fall apart?"

Leilanie asks, "Did he say we should only cast spells that are sorcery in nature?"

Iryta asks, "Does anyone else hear that buzzing noise?"

Allye says, "He didn't tell us to use sorcery exactly, but it was somewhat implied that it would be more balancing than not."

Reriyn nods to Rifkinn.

You nod to Shavay.

Iryta nods to Shavay.

Reriyn says, "A reminder is probably due."

With amazing speed, Rifkinn strikes Iryta in the throat with the edge of his flattened palm.  Iryta clutches her throat, wheezing pathetically.

The shadowy orb of light hovering near Inouvu whirls curiously as bolts of liquid silver light arc between it and Inouvu's hands.

Amailia nods to Shavay.

Reriyn winces.

Nawain frowns.

Reriyn says, "That looked painful."

Shavay says, "Okay, that leaves us with two options."

Reriyn rubs her neck.

Iryta rolls her eyes.

Avrenka says, "He said sorcery would fill the bucket that's leaking, and non-sorcery spells open opportunities for leaks."

Rifkinn asks, "So what was that guy all bout?"

Allye nods to Avrenka.

Shavay says, "Stop using magic altogether - which will never happen."

Leilanie frowns.

Eleandra turns her gaze heavenward and traces a series of lunar sigils in the air.

Avrenka says, "Which .. .I do not believe is true."

Iryta stretches her arms.

Nawain's skin gleams with a fiery lustre, her eyes determined and ready.

Reriyn says, "If you were trying to manipulate people, you'd tell them the opposite."

Iryta sits down on the cushioned swing.

Shavay says, "Or, ignore them both and just live our lives as normal."

Iryta nods to Reriyn.

Avrenka nods to Reriyn.

Allye says, "It certainly goes against everything we've ever been taught..."

Rifkinn says to Reriyn, "Not always."

Witterwell tilts her head to one side.

Avrenka says, "However, Valenal was more forthcoming with his theories and accusations than Asildu."

Witterwell pushes with her feet, causing the swing to sway from the arbor with a rhythmic creaking noise.

Iryta nods to Avrenka.

Avrenka says, "Asildu simply said "stop sorcery."

Reriyn says to Rifkinn, "Its only what I hear. I just a small town farmer."

Inouvu says, "A reasonable course of action."

Reriyn shrugs.

Leilanie asks Avrenka, "What was his interest in Asildu? Did he ever say?"

Iryta shakes her head.

Avrenka says to Leilanie, "He was circumspect, as was I, but I gathered he accused Asildu of being a thief, and that Valenal was an investigator in search of him."

Rifkinn says to Reriyn, "Mmhmm."

Rifkinn looks over Reriyn very closely.

You ask, "He muttered something about transferring his... consciousness somewhere for... analysis?"

Iryta manages to gain control of her vocal cords.

Avrenka nods to you.

Allye angles her ears forward, gazing curiously at you.

Reriyn meows deeply at Rifkinn, sounding like a large mountain cat.

Nawain blinks at you.

Leilanie nods to Avrenka.

Nawain ponders.

Iryta says, "Hope he enjoys that booze."

Avrenka says, "He wanted to take Asildu back for dissassembly for further analysis as to what went wrong."

You nod to Avrenka.

Leilanie grins.

Iryta says, "Yea that sounds right."

Reriyn says to Rifkinn, "If you ever need leeks, I'm your gal."

Avrenka says, "Which makes Asildu sound like a rogue agent, a ... deviant."

Avrenka asks, "Question is ... is Asildu a benevolent deviant, or is Valenal the good cop?"

Rifkinn says to Reriyn, "Im more a tomato kinda guy."

Leilanie says, "Take him back where, I wonder."

You look at Avrenka and shrug.

Iryta lightly says to Rifkinn, "Whatever you meant to accomplish with that I assure you that you failed."

You helplessly say, "Who knows."

Allye says, "Lots more to ponder."

Leilanie says, "Wherever it is -humans- go."

Allye furrows her brow.

Avrenka says, "Who knows, and I doubt either entity would reveal it."

Iryta asks Leilanie, "Extraplanar puppet workshop?"

The lazily drifting tendrils cease their lilting dance in the air, sinking downward to coil themselves into tight little bundles for a few moments of rest.

Leilanie nods at Iryta, obviously agreeing with her views.

Inouvu beams with pride as he places the last finishing touches on his rendition of an owl, completing a wood owl bead.

Avrenka says, "They both emenated Elemental Mana however."

(Amailia looks between Iryta and Rifkinn. "Do you guys, like hate or something or something?")

Amailia chuckles.

You angle your ears forward, gazing curiously at Avrenka.

Rifkinn says to Iryta, "Its ok, if you continue, im sure i'll do better next time."

Amailia says, "Hate each other rather."

Witterwell pushes with her feet, causing the swing to sway from the arbor with a rhythmic creaking noise.

Allye says, "I need to head home. Safe paths, everyone."

Iryta says to Amailia, "I mean if you knew him, you wouldn't be a fan."

Iryta shrugs.

Inouvu carefully threads a wood owl bead onto his prayer bead chain.

Leilanie says to Allye, "Be safe."

Reriyn gazes at Rifkinn.

Inouvu chuckles.

Rifkinn smiles at Allye.

Reriyn says, "He looks swell to me."

Allye hugs you, and you wrap your arms around her with a warm smile.

Amailia says to Iryta, "I mean, I try to see things as neutral as possible. But... you seem to REALLY not like him."

Iryta dusts herself off.

Nawain joins Iryta's group.

Avrenka asks, "The question is ... do we cast more sorcery to try and get our friends out, or do we cast no sorcery in hopes it'll repair what broke?"

Nawain waves to Iryta.

Iryta smiles at Nawain, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Nawain stops playing her song.

Inouvu says, "Some of us have long memories."

Avrenka takes a deep breath.

Rifkinn says to Iryta, "Thats more a reflection of your inteligence than my character, sweetheart."

You say to Avrenka, "I definitely need more sleep before I can figure that one out."

Iryta says to Amailia, "Trust I have a very good reason. As most of us do."

Nawain grins at Iryta.

Reriyn takes a faded slouched leather hat mottled in shades of brown off her head.

Leilanie smiles at you.

You notice Reriyn holding up her leather hat and waving it in the air.

Rifkinn asks Iryta, "Now... as i asked... do i know you?"

Avrenka just left.

You sigh.

You say, "Safe paths, all..."

Amailia says, "Well. These two people tonight should make for good ENN coverage regardless..."
