The deep, heady scent of gladiolus blossoms lingers in the night air, pervading a verdant lakeside hollow encased in glass and cloaked in darkness.  Rows of candles throw dancing shadows across long tables placed at the center of the building.  Flickering fireflies bob gently to and fro, their mesmerizing light reflected upon the placid surface of the nearby water.  You also see a gloomy Shadow Servant, a leathery tobacco leaf cloth edged with tendrils of smoke-hued silk with several things on it, a wooden dance floor sheltered beneath a white silk canopy and a small raised stage with a gilded podium.<br>

    "I still find myself aligning with the Heralds on one objective, caring for Elanthia, as a planet, our Mother Earth.  However, I find it difficult to turn my back on the Immortals as they want us to, especially if they would only wipe the slate clean to recreate their vision of this world without a care for the people who live in it."

    "I hope that Miraena will understand that regretfully and for these reasons and more, I have decided to put my blue iris down.  Should I decide not to cast any sorcery going forward, I won't remain beholden to the Heralds to do it."

    "At the Ball hosted by Allye and myself, Miraena claimed she too once worshiped the Immortals until the Heralds reached out.  Perhaps too hasty to accept their intentions as good, as many of us were tempted to do with the iris, she turned her back on them, at least for now."

    "We heard her tell Unaka that once the world stabilized again, she would return to Them with her whole heart.  I can't help but feel that time is now, given recent developments, and too much time may be wasted on waiting for the Heralds to prove themselves.  Asildu has already made it quite clear they want to preserve their own home, not ours."

    "We've seen the thunderstorm Miraena spoke of in metaphors get stronger with the concentration of pure mana, not disperse.  We've seen the Heralds target our clans and outlying towns with meteors.  It appears as if they are the rage, they are the storm.  The Immortals are not perfect, but they are consistent and vigilant, and many a time provided anchors for our souls to this plane."

Rileos pats Crobin on the back.

Crobin chuckles.

Kerennya nods to Shaylynne.

Shaylynne recites:

    "She said she had no reason to forsake the Immortals, nor do I, and it is for this reason I am laying down my Iris, not just physically the symbolism and false promises it stood for.  I return it to the earth from whence it came, in an effort to respect the essence of life and beauty it once held for me."

Nawain smiles at Shaylynne.

Shaylynne sadly says, "I want to believe Miraena meant well and so I still hold out hope for her to find her way back."

Leayne gets a light iris corsage from inside her silk-covered case.

Unaka nods to Shaylynne.

Allye nods at Shaylynne, obviously agreeing with her views.

Unaka asks, "Can I say something?"

Shaylynne recites:

    "But - If the truth, hard to hear or not, is that sorcery is what will stabilize the world, then forsaking the Blue Iris and the pledge to spread her message of abstaining from sorcery is still helping her village in the big picture."

Shaylynne says, "I just hope she can come to realize it that way as well...if she is who she says she is...and I pray that she finds her way home, no matter how she gets there.  At this time, please offer your own prayers, however you see fit, and plead with Miraena to do the same.  If she earnestly wants to help, we need all of it we can get."

Shaylynne nods to Unaka.

Illiya smiles at Unaka, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Shaylynne says to Unaka, "Yes, please, go ahead."

Unaka says, "I just wanted to say, if any of you see Miraena -- or Asildu, too -- as far as I'm concerned they're still welcome to come back to the Immortals."

Allye trills, her ears relaxing minutely back against her head.

Shaylynne quietly says, "At least I believe Miraena is..."

Unaka says, "Doesn't mean I won't fight one if it needs to happen, but there it is. Truffenyi is a god of mercy and forgiveness, and I know he will welcome them back if they repent."

Nevali quaveringly says, "When I first heard of the visions of what is now known as a Primal Elanthia, my soul began to hurt. I suddenly knew three things: That this place is where my soul was meant to thrive, that it was gone, and that it was never coming back."

Crobin smiles at Kerennya.

Leayne nods to Crobin.

Crobin says, "Is the best spot to be...easy to see, and react easier."

Nawain gazes at Nevali.

Nevali quaveringly says, " When Knife Clan was encased, I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I'd seen. I still do. I thought, out of the hope in my heart, that it was being re-created anew, by the beings that first created Elanthia. That within that spire, the people of the clan were adapting to their new situation with joy and wonder. I hold onto this hope, still."

Kerennya grins at Crobin.

Allye gazes at Nevali.

Nevali inhales a great swallow of air.

(Crobin stands behing Leayne his hands on her shoulders as he watches the group)

Nevali firmly says, "And when I was first learning more about someone who I consider a good friend, one of my only friends, I asked her why she does what she does. Why sit atop this tower, through blizzards and the somehow colder, cloudless nights? Her answer was the reason I trusted her, and try my hardest to keep trusting her now. She said, 'Because if I were gone, I'd want someone to be here when I got back. No one needs to know or care if I'm here. I'm still gonna be here. 'Cause it's the right thing to do.'."

Nawain gnaws on her lip.

Valynn gazes thoughtfully at Nevali.

Istercal nods in agreement.

Nevali says, "I was not given much time in my life to grow faith as many of you have. I am still very young, I have not seen as many things as you have. I grew up, and worked, at an inn. My schoolings were the drunken stories of travelers too tired to remember details. Those who had books would sometimes let me borrow them while they slept, which was not often enough."

Nawain rubs her neck.

Nevali says, "What little I know of my people's gods, of Demrris, Tenemlor, and Eu... what little I know of my people, and the land we once called home... It would hold me back even still, I believe, from accepting the path you're deciding to take, if faith were all I had."

Crobin winks at Zynell.

Nevali says, "I thi-- believe that the spirit of Eu is Elanthia itself. That vision of the Primal world fit so readily with what I've gathered about how my people are taught to live. To leave no waste, to kill only what is required to live. To live, not to survive. Nature - Eu - is to live, to adapt. Survival is... different. Survival is desperation. Perhaps it is holding onto the past. Because change is death as much as it is life. And death, to Prydaen, is simply another life waiting to be."

Zynell gazes at Crobin.

Allye smiles at Nevali.

Nevali slowly empties her lungs.

A nervous tic starts up around Zynell's eye.

Nevali says, "So I do not feel that I am turning my back on my gods, in sticking to the path I've chosen. If faith were all I had. But I don't."

Mistanna says, "We played the Herald's game. We gave them as much pure magic as we could.  They might have acknowledged us, but then... they did nothing.  Things got even worse."

Mistanna shifts her weight.

Allye nods to Mistanna.

Mistanna says, "They did not free any of the clans, nor our friends."

Allye trills, her ears relaxing minutely back against her head.

Leayne smiles at Allye, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Mistanna says, "To me this shows how little they care for us.  We are nothing to them. I am suprised they even deemed champions to speak on their behalf.  While the Immortals continue to be patient and guiding us towards what I feel can be a real answer.  Balance."

Saragos says to Trajan, "Smoking is me being polite to that."

Saragos puffs on his silver-foiled cigarillo.

Mistanna says, "Hopefully in the coming days we can calm this Wildness in our mana, and return our friends to us."

Mistanna says to Nevali, "To me, there was enough time between the pat on the back they gave us, and the start of the fight.  They could have done *something*.  But that is just my perspective of the event."

Nevali says to Mistanna, "Beings whose existance spans times history cannot even capture, I'm sure the moment to them was less than a blink before we collectively turned out backs once again."

Valynn gazes silently at Saragos.

Saragos says, "I never took the Iris, but any who've known me have probably heard me speak against Sorcery in the past.  Of the people not kidnapped, I was one of the most likely folks out there to support the anti-Sorcery cause."

Kethrai nods to Saragos.

Allye gives Saragos a slight nod.

Shaylynne nods.

Nawain nods at Saragos, obviously agreeing with his views.

Tirost nods to Saragos.

Zynell nods emphatically at Saragos.

Saragos says, "But the Heralds' prison is being used to imprison my wife and friends, and polite diplomacy didn't move them to say a word about it.  We had to discover it on our own.  Sorcery has been the only thing that has made things better.  And the Immortals, who HAVE aided us in getting our people back have made their interest in our Sorcery use plain."

Unaka nods to Saragos.

Allye nods in agreement.

Aerilia nods.

Kerennya nods.

Nawain nods to Saragos.

Saragos says, "If there was ever a time for the Heralds to make their case plain, to show us why WE need a world free of Sorcery, rather than their own selfish needs, this would have been a great time.  But they've said nothing.  And all we've heard from their representatives is, 'Do what they say or else.'."

Shaylynne smiles at Nilme.

A pained expression crosses Nawain's face.

Shaylynne wraps her arm around Nilme's shoulder in a friendly hug.

Kerennya nods to Saragos.

Dytt smokily says to Nawain, "Which has never worked for me anyway."

Saragos says, "So, I'm done.  Sorcery looks like what's needed to rescue them, and Sorcery looks like it'll help the world.  All arrows point in the same direction."

Zalinyar gets a short glass of QQ's Black Barrel rum from atop a leathery tobacco leaf cloth edged with tendrils of smoke-hued silk.

Zalinyar takes a sip of her rum.

Mistanna says, "I thought it was sorcery, not Sorcery that was being requested?  It was ezplained to me as simply not using your native mana.  Not teleologic or the other more severe sorts."

Mistanna coughs.

Mistanna says, "Explained."

Shaylynne says, "I believe so, yes."

Zynell nods.

Zyros says, "Indeed."

Shaylynne ponders.

Saragos says to Mistanna, "Either one."

Dytt smokily says, "I know many people worry about using so MUCH Sorcery, but it looks like it's a case of using what tools we have and heal the scars later."

Kerennya asks, "Meraud showed us a vision of the four types of mana being woven, so feral magic, I believe?"

Saragos nods to Dytt.

Istercal nods to Kerennya.

Dytt nods to Kerennya.

Shaylynne nods to Kerennya.

Nevali cautiously asks, "What about... temporal magic?"

Mistanna nods to Saragos.

Istercal says, "We were shown that vision, yes."

Kethrai says, "Cross-domain casting, high sorcery, feral magic, including temporal magic... All would count as sorcery in this case."

Istercal ponders.

Dytt smokily says to Kerennya, "That's my theory, discovering, or REdiscovering how to use Feral Magic."

Zynell says, "The higher sorceries are not without their innate risks and should be used with reasonable caution still."

Zynell looks at Mistanna and shrugs.

Nawain gnaws on her lip.

Kerennya nods to Dytt.

Nawain nods in agreement.

Maintain says to Kerennya, "This unlearned monk believes that Feral Magic results from mixing without intention. With intention...it is difficult to believe it would be Feral."

Mistanna nods to Zynell.

Zynell says, "Otherwise dumb things happen that could be avoided."

Eyst says, "It does seem like all sorts of sorcery might aid them."

Nawain rubs her neck.

Kerennya says to Maintain, "I have not heard that distinction made before."

Saragos says to Mistanna, "How safe Sorcery involving other Planes is a real good question for once we're past the worst of this.  Teleologic, Hylomorphic.  The Immortals already condemn Necromancy."

Ezerak says, "I would say they should only be used as a last resort.  They have some serious risks."

Kethrai nods at Saragos, obviously agreeing with his views.

Dytt smokily says, "Pretty sure the Immortals won't be too please if we all start using Necromantic magic of course."

Dytt chuckles.

Briaen gazes upward.

Saragos's silver-foiled cigarillo goes out and crumbles away.

Istercal says, "They condemn necromancy for reasons other than mixing mana..."

Dytt nods to Istercal.

Kethrai nods to Istercal.

Kerennya says to Dytt, "I'm so glad that kind of magic is icky.  No appeal to casting it.  At all."

Kerennya grins.

Allye grins at Kerennya.

Unaka nods to Dytt.

Unaka says, "Yeah, they sure don't like Necromancy."

Nevali pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

Shaylynne says, "Nevali touched on this briefly, the um, thrumming or vibrating thing Asildu does, also shook my trust in him a bit, it seems like he is directly empowered by the pure mana somehow."

Jundara rubs Nevali gently, massaging her muscles.

Shaylynne shrugs.

Zynell says, "Useful currently for sorcery purposes though."

Unaka says, "But, I dunno. Might be willing to turn a blind eye when things are this dire."

Zynell nods to Unaka.

Nevali quietly says, "I just hope you're all right with this... it would be awful if I was right and you were all on the wrong side. I'm used to being wrong. I can handle it, maybe."

A pained expression crosses Kethrai's face.

Dytt smokily says, "Perhaos those called "Redeemed" could teach us how to more safely handle sorcerous magics."

Nevali says to Nawain, "And I hope when it's all over, someday... you can forgive me, too."

Kethrai says to Unaka, "Or... perhaps we just do all the other kinds and keep not doing that one."

Unaka nods to Kethrai.

Nawain smiles at Nevali.

Shaylynne leans over and scratches Allye's back.

Unaka says to Kethrai, "That's what I'd prefer."

Aerilia nods in agreement.

Briaen says to Dytt, "There aren't enough of us to teach a class that large."

Trajan nods.

Allye grins at Kethrai.

Mistanna nods in agreement.

Rileos says, "Yeah, let's not all become necromancers.  I don't need that kind of work load in my life."

Briaen chuckles at Rileos.

Nawain says to Nevali, "You're doing what you're doing for good reasons. I don't agree, but that doesn't mean they're bad."

Zalinyar grins at Rileos, her dimples flashing into view.

Nawain pats Nevali on the back.

Trajan says, "The deceased should remain undisturbed."

Maintain smirks at Rileos.

Shaylynne nods to Nawain.

Zynell says, "Could thank them for using sorcery for the next few days though."

Zynell giggles.

Saragos says to Dytt, "I agree.  Something I've thought of."

Zynell playfully tilts her ears in opposite directions.

Dytt smokily says to Briaen, "That's the beauty of knowledge, a candle lights another and is not spent from it, but the light still grows."

Nevali exclaims to Nawain, "I learned it from you!"

Nevali leans on Jundara's shoulder and bawls her eyes out.

Nawain smiles at Nevali.

Jundara rubs Nevali's back.

Nawain says to Nevali, "You learned well."

Jundara shakes her head.

Dytt grins at Briaen.

Nawain hugs Nevali, getting a smile in return.

Briaen says to Dytt, "The knowledge I have comes as a cost few are able to pay."

Saragos says to Briaen, "You're likely to be a man in demand.  A welcome change, I'd say, for people to have to come hat-in-hand to you."

Dytt smokily says to Briaen, "True enough, but the experience is still valuable to those who don't walk that trail."

Kethrai closes his eyes for a moment and grows still.

Nawain whispers something to Briaen.

Dytt smokily says, "Of course I'm still amazed the Temple hasn't thrown a collective fit that it wasn't one of their 13 that spoke to us."

Dytt smokily says to Unaka, "The Temple has always had issues with the Great Pack and the Triquerta, not ackowledging them as equals to the Thirteen and such."

Purn says, "I never had an iris, but would have accepted one gladly and would have thrown it down today gladly and stepped on it when I did."

Leayne grins mischievously before leaning over to lick Crobin.

Tinkerer Olinslag stomps out.

Allye nods to Aerilia.

Nevali says to Jundara, "You don't have to, just because it's me who wouldn't..."

Jundara says, "Not because I choose the Heralds... but because I made a promise."

Tinkerer Olinslag just arrived.

Jundara gives a half-hearted grin.

Shaylynne nods to Jundara.

Rileos says to Dytt, "Likewise."

Kethrai quietly says, "I made two promises. Unfortunately, they came into conflict."

Zalinyar grins at Zynell, her dimples flashing into view.

Kethrai says to Illiya, "To Miraena, not to use sorcery. To Nawain, to look at the evidence with an open mind, and change my course if I saw that I needed to."

Illiya nods to Kethrai.

Nevali says, "I just wish we had more... more evidence."

Valynn smiles at Kethrai.

Unaka nods to Nevali.

Crobin says, "You are a strong person Keth."

Nevali says, "When this knot in my gut unravels... I hope to find the energy to do my research properly."

Trajan says, "Just because a promise was once made doesn't mean it needs to be blindly followed in perpetuity."

Leayne nods to Kethrai.

Allye slowly empties her lungs.

Nevali glances at Unaka.

Crobin says, "Though there are conflicts, you are still so strong."

Nawain nods to Tirost.

Shaylynne nods to Trajan.

Unaka says to Nevali, "I am truly sorry if my haste caused you doubt. I felt the Immortals speaking to me in a real powerful way in that moment."

Kethrai scratches one ear, looking bemused.

Aerilia nods to Crobin.

Nevali says to Unaka, "I'll forgive you."

(Kerennya's eyes show a conflicted expression, but she does not speak.)

Unaka smiles at Nevali.

Valynn quietly says to Nevali, "Sometimes we may never find as much as we need. It is then that we lean on faith and hope our instincts are right."

Nevali says to Unaka, "Because it's the right thing to do. Not because I want to."

Rileos says, "It's not easy to change your mind, good work, y'all."

Raising her Barrel rum to Valynn, Zalinyar gives her a toast.

Saragos says to Kethrai, "You're doing a better job of being objective than I am.  I'm just doing whatever I can to get my wife and friends back.  That this path seems to also be working to fix things is pure happenstance."

Dytt nods at Saragos, obviously agreeing with his views.

Eyst says to Unaka, "Fairly familiar to what Asildu said he was experiencing at one point."

Valynn nods to Zalinyar.

Shaylynne says to Rileos, "It wasn't easy to witness the things that changed my mind...and I'm still conflicted in wanting Elanthia to heal."

Nevali says to Valynn, "Then I guess I wish I could learn how to have faith, too."

Shaylynne frowns.

Kethrai says to Saragos, "I desperately hope to get the missing back... but, I have to stay more focused on the millions of others who may suffer worse fates if we don't fix what's wrong with magic."
