NEWS article 5-8:

Dateline 3/13/2002: REQUESTING A PIN FOR AN OLD CHARACTER

Since we are beginning to purge the character database of these characters beginning 7/1/98, there is no guarantee that the character in question will still be available.

Because of the heavy administrative costs involved in researching PINs for old characters, we have instituted a new policy: Effective April 7, 1998, there will be a 15 dollar charge for PIN requests. This fee will be waived for one character only for any account which is less than 30 days old. You MUST have an active Simutronics account in order to request a PIN.

Instructions for getting your character's PIN:

1) Preferred method: Send the answers to the questions below through the Feedback section of our Web site. We prefer you use this method because it enables us to establish your identity easily.

2) Alternate method: Send a letter to transfer@simutronics.com. Include all the information below, plus the answer to your account's security question (you set this up when you opened your account, and unless you changed the default question, it was 'What is your mother's maiden name?').

Please answer the questions below to the best of your ability. Also please note that questions 1, 3, 4 and 5 MUST be answered.

* 1) Are you aware there is a 15 dollar charge for this service, unless both of the following apply: Your account is less than 30 days old and this is your first PIN request? The fee will be charged to the account receiving the PIN on the day the character is placed on the account.

* 2) Are you the original owner of this character? Please note that if you are not, you are NOT authorized to receive this character's PIN.

* 3) What was the screen name on AOL, Prodigy, Compuserve or Genie on which the character was played? NOTE: If the character is on a cancelled Web account, stop here. You can only reactivate that Web account (contact access@simutronics.com), or request a character transfer to be done at the home office. PINs no longer work for characters which have been transferred to the Web, and we will not distribute them. You may find the form for a character transfer by typing NEWS inside the game.

* 4) What is your Simutronics User-ID/Account Name? (Please note that if you are requesting the PIN via e-mail instead of the Feedback section of our Web site, we will also need the answer to your account's security question in order to verify your identity.)

* 5) What was your character's name? (Either first or last name is mandatory, both are preferred.)

The following questions are designed to help us identify the correct character more quickly, please answer them to the best of your ability:

6) What game was your character played in?
7) What level/circle was your character?
8) Approximately when was the last time this character logged in?
9) Did you have any memorable contacts with any of the GameMasters? What happened? With which GM did you speak?
10) When/where was the last time your character died? Who resurrected you?
11) Was your character ever arrested? For what?
12) Had your character been killed by another character? By who?
13) Had your character ever killed another character? Whom?
14) Had you received any official warnings? How many, and for what? (Note that this is for verification purposes only, and will not be held against you.)

We will place the character on your account for you. Please allow up to 10 days.
