Obsideon Concert, 4/10/2004, Daerlynn’s Concert Series, Half Pint Inn As transcribed by Mykk Dalys

It has been 375 years, 301 days since the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer. It is the 8th month of Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe in the year of the Iron Toad. It is currently fall and it is approaching sunrise. You feel somewhat certain it's past the Anlas of Asketi's Hunt.

Thousands of stars twinkle merrily from clear autumn skies.

Location

[Half Pint, Bards' Corner] In sharp contrast to the Main Saloon and more boisterous reaches of The Half Pint, this quiet chamber is softly lit and tastefully decorated with antique tapestries depicting famed minstrels and legendary troubadours from the annals of Elanthia. The room itself has no tables and chairs, but rather a recessed wooden seating pit with overstuffed cushions scattered about the floor. At the far end is a raised platform with a lectern, a low ottoman and a music stand. You also see a dimly lit arch.

Concert

Your mind hears Farman thinking, "Attention, please... tonight's Arthe Dale Concert by Obsideon will take place at the Half Pint Inn here in town. Please come, Obsideon is one of the best songsmiths around!"

Obsideon grins at Farman. Farman exclaims, "hi guys!" Artila says, "Hi Hon" Obsideon exclaims, "So glad you could make it!" Farman says, "I'm glad Artila reminded me" Farman smiles. Artila grins at Farman. Obsideon exclaims, "So am I!" Farman grins. Obsideon says, "My earliest fan, Farman is..." Obsideon chuckles. Farman says, "I wouldn't miss this for anything... you're a great musician" Farman praises Obsideon. Obsideon says, "Sang my first song to him" Farman blushes, the tips of his ears turning a deep shade of red.

Daerlynn recites:

"Ok!"

Daerlynn recites:

"I apologize for the change in venue, but we almost had the concert cancelled!! However, the Prince and Silvy stepped in and agreed that this is important!"

Daerlynn recites:

"So, welcome to the 65th Arthe Dale concert, the second not actually IN Arthe Dale!"

Mykk says, "Same situation though." Mykk says, "So in a sense, also tradition."

Daerlynn recites:

"Dewsong had a concert here, during the Sorrow War... and Mykk had to fight his way through the front lines to make it!"

Daerlynn beams at Mykk! Mykk beams! Obsideon chuckles. Raising her light porter to Mykk, Artila gives him a toast. Mykk says, "Yep, much easier this time." Kesrel asks, "Commitment, eh?" Artila nods. Mykk chuckles. Kesrel praises Mykk. Mykk says, "Something like that." Mykk says, "Bordering on insanity by this point."

Daerlynn recites:

"So... firstly, I would ask that people be respectful of our performer tonight... "

Daerlynn recites:

"And secondly, let me introduce a wonderful bard .... "

Daerlynn yells, "Obsideon!"

Obsideon bows. Obsideon grins. Obsideon studies the faces around him.

Obsideon loudly says, "Greetings, my friends. Both old ...and new." Then he bows deeply, his mandolin held in his left hand. He holds the bow for a few seconds, then straightens and strums a brief series of chords. "Welcome."

Obsideon exclaims, "It is my pleasure and privilege to offer you some small entertainments this evening. Together we will hunt the humours. And a lively hunt it will be!" Obsideon appears to be trying hard not to grin.

Obsideon says, "I shall labour to bring you some laughter, and some shivers, and, perhaps, more than a few tears." He grins broadly. "And hope. Always, in the end...hope. For the full life is made of all these things."

Obsideon casually observes the area.

Obsideon asks, "Well," looking out at the audience. His eyes quickly dance over each waiting face, including yours. "Where shall we begin our journey? What is your pleasure?"

Obsideon perks up his ears, glancing around alertly.

Obsideon asks, "Tears? Fears? Something sad? Something silly?"

Artila exclaims, "silly!" Lehelefiua says, "Silly" Mykk says, "Silly." Farman says, "silly" Obsideon asks, "Silly?" Solarri exclaims, "Silly, I agree!" Kesrel says, "For sure, silly." True says, "silly"

Obsideon chuckles. Obsideon exclaims, "Silly, it is!"

Obsideon says, "You asked for levity! But I fear it is time to speak of serious business. I call this song "Prydaens' Pride"." Obsideon grins wickedly.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Oh, a Prydaen's tail is a wondrous thing.
The stuff of which the best Bards sing.
Long and slim and ever so fine
For teasing one's friends or showing one's mind."

Obsideon lashes his tail.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"They'll curl up tight, or stretch out long
They'll even keep beat with a favourite song.
    Gentle caress or angry flick.
Move ever so slow, or ever so quick."

Kesrel swishes her tail through the air. Obsideon flicks his tail peevishly.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Our tails can do so many things to you.
Fan and hug and tickle too.
What else they can do, I'll just not say.
But they're good for much more...romantic...play."

Obsideon's tail swishes through the air.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"A Prydaen's pride is our superior tail.
In contests of mischief, our tails will prevail.
Serious business, or just plain fun.
Thank Gods they don't have an opposable thumb!"

Obsideon's tail undulates lazily through the air. Obsideon smiles as he plays and then, catching your eye, he winks at you.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Now many folk envy the Prydaen's ear.
And rightly they should, for they do more than hear.
    Expressive and handsome, most eloquent.
Gifts from the Gods...ears heaven sent."

Obsideon perks up his ears, glancing around alertly. Obsideon quirks his ears outward in surprise.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Elves' ears are pointed, while humans' are round.
Rakash ears twitch at the slightest of sounds.
Halflings' and gnomes' ears are pulled in so tight.
They can't even move them, try all they might."

Kesrel's ears straighten up smartly, a look of pride on her face. Lehelefiua lashes her tail wildly! Obsideon's ears droop for a moment. Obsideon's ears relax for a moment in obvious enjoyment.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"'Nervous and playful. Sleepy and proud.
They send subtle signs without speaking out loud.
Happy, relaxed. They can even warn
That you're pushing too far...an impending storm."

Obsideon lays his ears back and hisses warningly. Obsideon's ears stand up proudly for a moment.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Now Prydaen tongue is an acquired taste.
Approach one with caution...never in haste.
A gentle lick tickles...and then sometimes not.
Raspy and rough when applied without thought."

Obsideon licks his lips.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Let's talk of whiskers, the pride of our race.
They lend some interest to the plainest of face.
While our whiskers are fine, I will admit this...
Sometimes they tickle in the midst of a kiss."

Obsideon smiles and wiggles his whiskers.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

   "Oh, a Prydaen's fur can't be oversold.
Cool in the heat and warm in the cold.
They come in all colours...manes, coat and tails.
Completing all outfits, our fur never fails."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"So treat yourself well and cuddle a kitty,
For the softest of pillows...the best in the city.
Snuggle up tight to the softest you've felt.
Nothing compares to a Prydaen pelt."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Halflings are handsome. S'Kra Mur have their scales
Dwarves have their beards and Rakash, their tails.
Elves have their beauty and gnomes are so cute.
Of the Gor Togs' refinement, I think I'll stay mute."

Obsideon flashes a quick grin.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"But don't try to deny it, elf, gnome and man.
You don't have to hide it. I do understand.
Elotheans, Kaldar, and Gor Togs too.
We ALL can't be cat folk... whatever you do."

Obsideon taps the tip of his nose. Obsideon bows. Obsideon looks smug. Obsideon ducks his head.

Obsideon chuckles. Obsideon asks, "Silly enough?"

Kesrel asks Daerlynn, "Am I biased in LOVING that song?" Kesrel brushes one ear with her hand, grooming it absentmindedly.

Obsideon says, "Well...let's keep up the pace." Obsideon grins.

Obsideon says, "We have all known stories like this in our troubled Lands. This is dedicated to those who help others in need, without thought of reward. And perhaps also for those with hopeless loves. The song is called "Missing"."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"One night I was strolling the streets of the Crossing,
And I saw a young Moon Mage, all battered and worn.
Her weapons were bloody. Her shield was asunder.
Her helm was scratched and her armor was torn.
Her helm lay in tatters and her armor was torn."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She gave no response when I asked of her fortunes.
Her nerves were twitching. Blood dripped from her hair.
She wobbled a bit and stood there unmoving,
But the worst thing to see was her blank empty stare.
A terrible thing was her blank empty stare."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Her beauty was legend and my heart beat so fast,
I hurt for her pain and I thought of her past.
Was she loved by another? Was she trothed to a lad?
Had she given her heart? The thought made me sad.
Had someone stolen her heart? The thought made me sad."

Daerlynn hugs Dulcinie, who wraps her arms around Daerlynn with a warm smile.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I took her hand gently and led her along
To the Empaths to heal her. And I sang her a song.
The Lilt helped her body to deal with its pain
But her mind remained empty in the cold pouring rain.
And her eyes remained empty in the cold pouring rain."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The Healers dealt quickly with her many dire hurts.
Her nerves stopped their twitching. Her blood stopped its spurts.
Her scars faded quickly, leaving her whole.
But still she was missing some part of her soul.
But still it was missing...some part of her soul."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Still she stood there all silent, eyes empty of life.
My forlorn lost lady, hiding from strife.
Her body was whole. Her beauty restored.
But still she was voiceless. She spoke not a word.
She remained voiceless. She uttered no word."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I offered four gems from a half empty pouch.
Poor thanks to the Healers for their gentle touch.
Then I closed my eyes briefly in the depths of my song.
But when my eyes opened, the lady was gone.
When I opened my eyes, my lady was gone."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She'd left without speaking or saying my name.
Though I look and I look, I've not seen her again.
I search for her daily, both country and town.
And, some day, I'll find her. I will track her down.
Some day, I will find her. I will track her down."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I know she won't know me. But I have no choice.
My ears will not let me. I must hear her voice.
I'll watch from afar. I'll not say my name.
She'll not know I love her. But I'll love just the same.
My love will be secret. But I'll love just the same."

Obsideon's ears droop for a moment. Obsideon wipes one of his eyes. Obsideon bows.

Obsideon grins. Obsideon's tail undulates lazily through the air.

Obsideon ponders for a moment. You can see him mentally going over his repertoire, searching for the best song to suit the mood of the audience.

Farman asks, "how about a war song?"

Obsideon says, "Let's stay light for a while longer....then, Farman...I'll make you shiver." Obsideon grins at Farman. Farman chuckles.

Obsideon says, "These lands of ours are home to a wonderful melange of stalwart souls. This is a song dedicated to them. I call it "Diversity"."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"These Lands need more Songs in these troubled times.
While warriors use longswords, we Bards use our lines.
Our instruments, weapons when wielded with skill.
To help fellow warriors close for the kill."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Have you ever looked closely at Healers at work?
Their bodies grow ragged, our hurt is their hurt.
Their faces grow haggard with each painful breath
As they labour to drive off the spectre of death."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And let's not forget the secret Moon Mage.
The lives of these lands are but words on their page.
Their chants and their gestures, the magic Moon Gate.
The deepened dark shadows, the weavings of fate."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"War Mages wield weapons of fire and ice.
And when Magic won't do, real weapons suffice.
Cute little familiars, and electrickery shocks.
And shattered nerves making them twitch in their socks. "

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Barbarians, too, have their place in these lands.
Dismember with claymores. And rend with their hands.
The roars and the dances...it makes quite the scene!
You'll live through more hunts with a Barb on your team."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The Holy folk, Clerics, the keepers of Souls.
The bane of undead. The readers of scrolls.
They save all our memories and help us return
From the hold of the Gods, once more to learn."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The folk of the Shadow have their own place,
As they fade into darkness without any trace.
They open our boxes...and then empty our purse.
They earn our thanks...and...sometimes, our curse."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Commerce, the playground of Traders, we need.
For where else comes the morsels on which we feed?
They supply us with all that we think we lack.
A small price is stepping in a caravan's crap."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Wander the woodlands, and Rangers you'll find.
Communing with wolves, sharing their minds.
Searching for herbs and then carving out bows.
They never get lost, or so I am told."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I'm told that the Paladins always must lead.
Sharing their courage, our spirits they feed.
These warriors are crucial to peace in our Lands.
You really must stop calling them the Tin Cans!"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And then come Great Mages who watch us unseen.
They see all and know all. They know where we've been.
They play with our lives, and play with our world.
Their labours in secret make our future unfurl."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"So all have their place in Elanthia's lore.
Without all these people, our lives would be poor.
Rich is our world, folk make its beating heart.
Diversity makes us and sets our world apart."

Obsideon grins mischievously. Obsideon bows.

Obsideon says, "I think perhaps we need some songs of love ..."

Obsideon says, "Some short ones, perhaps..."

Obsideon says, "This is a song I wrote for those of us with scarred hearts. You know who you are. I call this "Last Kiss"."

Obsideon smiles gently and bends over his mandolin. His eyes fill with silent tears as the opening notes of the song begin.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Confusion reigns in my mind once again
Borne of feelings I thought I had lost.
Games of love have been played by us all.
Or does love play its cruel games with us?"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Fantasy reigns in my thoughts once again.
Shattered dreams grow anew and are whole.
Reality withered by the fiction of hope.
With the rebirth of love as its goal."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The hearts that were joined, the minds that were one
Have parted to walk different paths.
Are they the scars truly healed? Is the love truly gone?
Was the last kiss truly the last?"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Does she think the same thoughts? Dream the same dreams?
Is her future as vague as my own?
Does she dream of a day when we join hands once again?
Does she wish that once more we were one?"

Obsideon bows. Obsideon says, "Thank you."

Obsideon says, "This is just a short song... a parting message for an old love."

Obsideon says, "I'd like to think that these feelings were unique...but I know that they are all too common."

Obsideon hopelessly sings in a countertenor voice:

   "You offer me no hope,
So give me no more pain,
    By mouthing your sweets promises
    Of returning once again."

Obsideon sadly sings in a countertenor voice:

"You say the years have been a dream.
They've been a dream for me.
A dream of love. A dream of trust.
A dream of what could be."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"But my sweet love, remember this,
    As you prepare to run.
You carry deep within your soul
    That which you're running from."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Have no fear of destroying me.
Just the love you leave behind.
For you leave not a boy, but a man, my love.
And the weakness is not mine."

Obsideon bows.

Obsideon smiles a little sadly. Then he squares his shoulders and looks over the audience. His eyes scan the faces and pause of for a moment as he looks directly at you.

Obsideon inhales a great swallow of air.

Obsideon says, "I'm not going to say much about this song. It's called "Why won't you talk to me?"" Obsideon's ears droop for a moment.

Obsideon longingly sings in a countertenor voice:

"Won't you talk to me, my sweet love?
Just talk to me of stars above?
Speak to me of what you hold dear.
Speak to me about your fear.
Why won't you talk with me?"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"To fall in love's the easy part.
To offer up each hopeful heart.
True lovers also trade their thought.
Of puzzles solved and battles fought.
Why won't you talk to me?"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"In loving, passion has its place.
But lust can fade without a trace.
Words have strength that kisses don't.
I beg. I plead. But you just won't.
Why won't you talk to me?"

Obsideon hopelessly sings in a countertenor voice:

"Without your words, I have no choice.
I need the sound of your sweet voice.
Talk to me, or I must leave.
My eyes will tear. My heart will grieve.
Why won't you talk to me?"

Obsideon's ears droop for a moment.

Obsideon sadly sings in a countertenor voice:

"And still you give a silent shrug.
A passing kiss. A loving hug.
I ask, but still, no words will flow.
So with a sigh, I'll turn to go.
I wish you'd talked to me."

A tear runs down Obsideon's face. Obsideon bows.

Obsideon says, "Oh my," as he looks out at the audience. He smiles a very slight, sad smile and then nods, almost to himself. "Doesn't seem to be a dry eye in the house. Even mine."

Obsideon says, "Happy....love...and happy." Obsideon ponders.

Obsideon says, "Now many love songs are sad tales. But some are not. "

Obsideon says, "This song is called "The Phoenix"."

Obsideon inhales a great swallow of air. Obsideon smiles and closes his eyes. He begins tap his right foot. When a steady beat is established...about 12 beats, he sings...a capella.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

   "Awake! Arise!
    Fly to the light!
    Soar once more
    In breathless flight.
    Rise through the skies
    To heady height.
    For love is born again!"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

   "So do not weep
    For love that fails.
    Or honour its death
    With lonely tales.
    Lament not the past
    With self-pitying wails.
Love shall be born again! "

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

   "It never dies
    Though crushed and torn.
    For from its ash
    It is reborn.
    It lives again
    In different form.
    When love is born again."

Obsideon says, "Thank you." Obsideon bows. Obsideon winks.

True beams at Obsideon! Obsideon asks, "How's that, True? Better?" True says, "Much" Obsideon says, "I promised you hope...."

Obsideon says, "Sometimes love is slow to come. It dances around at the edge of your life...and darts away when you try to grab it."

Obsideon says, "This is a short little song about such an elusive love."

Obsideon says, "Or perhaps I should say...to such an elusive love."

Obsideon smiles gently and bends over his mandolin.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"We walk our paths. They call us on.
Melodies linger, but with different songs.
My voice alone sounds simply wrong.
I'll want you to sing with me."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Seek your dreams and chase the muse.
Search your heart and then refuse
To bow your head at evil news
I need you to walk with me."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Walk your own path. I'll walk mine.
Our roads diverge, but they may rejoin.
And when we reach the bottom line.
I'll ask you to walk with me."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Find your course and change your way.
    Forgo the tears of yesterday.
But the time will come when I will say
I want you to be mine."

Obsideon bows. Obsideon says, "Thank you."

Obsideon says, "Oops," and bends with concern over his mandolin. Looking up he says, "Broke a string...just a moment." With a few efficient movements, he strips off the old string and threads a new one onto his instrument. He spends a moment tuning the new string and then grins. "All right, then. On with the show."

Obsideon says, "I think perhaps some scary stuff now...to get the hearts beating again." Obsideon grins evilly.

Obsideon says, "Now curiosity killed the Prydaen...or so they say."

Obsideon says, "Mine didn't quite kill me, but it let me have a good look in death's face."

Obsideon says, "Here's the tale..."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I ran through a valley with bloody red walls.
And I shivered with fear at the undead's calls.
The dead walk among us. They thirst for our blood.
They walked in my footsteps. They stood where I stood."

Obsideon twitches an ear nervously.

Obsideon darkly sings in a countertenor voice:

"Dark sky was sullen, its clouds red and grey
As I staggered towards the upcoming day.
I heard sounds behind me. I quickened my pace.
And I feared that I might lose this crucial race."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I had wandered too far off the regular paths.
The trail that I walked now could well be my last.
The Rangers had told me to not go to this place.
But curiosity drew me...the bane of my race."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"They told me of evils beyond what I'd known.
With all that I'd seen and all I've been shown.
Necromance magics, stolen souls held in thrall.
Hearts torn out bleeding, 'fore the body could fall."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"But I was so sure I could watch and then run.
And find sanctuary in the bright morning's sun.
I could hide, and observe the dark evil deed.
I ignored all the warnings. My wonder must feed."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I followed directions from that ancient dark scroll
That I found in the ruins on a bright morning stroll.
It seemed an adventure. An exciting lark.
To seek out the secrets concealed in the dark"

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The moons were aligned. The timing was right.
The evil would happen on this very night.
I crept, ever silent, to the crest of the hill.
And peeked through the bushes, still seeking a thrill."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And there, just below me, in a brooding dark dale
Was a gathering of creatures that made my heart quail.
The evil was solid...a tangible thing.
It sucked on my spirit, and left it screaming."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And then, to my horror, the creatures all turned
And stared where I hid...where my wretched soul burned.
I crouched there, revealed, to their depraved sight.
No longer hid safe in the dark of the night."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"At first I was frozen, my muscles seemed dead!
My mind screamed in terror. My heart filled with dread.
Then the spell broke asunder, and I leaped to my feet,
And I prayed to my Gods that my legs could be fleet."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Midnight found me running, far and fast as I could.
Stumbling on rough paths. Crashing through the wood.
On my trail were howling things. My soul they sought to taste.
Lose this race...lose everything. Fear spurred on my haste."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"It's clear that on that dreadful night, I won my fateful race.
But I fear that fear itself is etched so deep upon my face.
I once called night a faithful friend. A safe, concealing cloak.
Now the dark night frightens me. A dagger to my throat."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Each sound awakes a fear in me. Have they found me out at last?
Is it time to pay the price I owe, for my foolish past?
It turns my bones to water. A whining shaking fool.
My heart a quivering, abject thing. My mind a useless tool."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"So be careful what you wish for. It really might come true.
And haunt your spirit every hour, no matter what you do.
Be thankful for your innocence. Be thankful you've not seen
The horrors burned into my soul. Or been where I have been."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Relax in your happy ignorance of what stalks us in the night.
Enjoy all your smug confidence that you can win each fight.
I once was like you, brave and strong. I once was filled with pride.
But the truth of life caught up with me...and so, each night...I hide."

Obsideon shivers. Obsideon bows.

Obsideon says, "Scary...you call THAT scary...then listen to this one...."

Obsideon grins evilly.

Obsideon says, "Here's a tale to keep you awake on those sleepy nights."

Obsideon casually observes the area.

Obsideon says, "Come closer." And then his voice drops to a fearful whisper. "And listen.""

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"A single sentry stood alone, outside the city gate.
He walked his beat. He stamped his feet. He grumbled at his fate.
His Sergeant was his nemesis. Late duty was his lot.
Barracks bound, he'd cast his dice. He'd gambled, and was caught."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The night was silent as the grave. The air was still and damp.
Darkness crowded in on him, beyond the gatepost lamp.
Hair stirred on his neck's nape. A chill ran down his back.
His frightened eyes scanned back and forth. But all he saw was black."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"He never saw her coming. He had no chance to shout.
His hair held hard. His head drawn back. His throat torn swiftly out.
His eyes beheld a nightmare, as life faded fast away.
Deep red eyes, and dripping fangs...a face not meant for day."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She dragged her meat into the dark, 'neath a towering brooding tree.
She hid him there, but not for good. She had plans for him, you see.
Our soldier had a shallow grave, a shroud of leaves and mold.
His spirit fled in terror. His body growing cold."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Then o'er the gate a shadow flew, and faded into the night.
A passing guard paused and stared, then doubted his own sight.
Soon deep beneath the city, nothing was the same.
The evils skulking in the dark blessed the lady with no name."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Each night would see a new outrage, with corpses torn and bled.
But no-one saw the evil deed. Just the cobbles running red.
The midnight guard was doubled and the warriors walked in pairs.
They never saw her watching or felt her brooding stares."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Just outside the city gate, in a shallow, hasty hole,
Our sentry stirs. He strains and shoves. He moves, but with no soul.
His eyes are blank. He stands and walks...his mistress is commanding.
He staggers forth into the night...his mistress is demanding."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And so her brood grows daily. Our sentry's not alone.
Her army grows each nighttime. New minions, one by one.
And each of them has hunger for the blood that lets us live.
They hate us for our living souls...a thing they can't forgive."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The night will come, and soon, I fear, when they'll try to take us down.
When the Crossing will run the risk of becoming an undead town.
And if they win, our lives will change. They'll turn us into cattle.
We'll have to fight for our very souls. It will be a vicious battle."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Pray to your Gods and watch your backs. And put your armour on.
Especially that which guards your throats. And bless each morning's sun.
Pray to your Gods and seek their will. And train your stout right arm.
Pray to your Gods that you might live and keep your child from harm."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"An evil stalks the Crossing. She hunts us down each night.
She feeds on our life's vitae and stalks where there's no light.
So hold your children close, my friends. Be sure to lock your home.
Walk with friends...and quickly now. Don't walk the night alone. "

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"An evil stalks the Crossing. She hunts us without pity.
She seeks to subjugate our souls and rule this wretched city.
So here's our choice, my noble friends. Do we go down without a fight?
Or do we take the war to her, and dominate the night?"

Obsideon lays his ears back in alarm, gazing around warily.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Do we take the war to her...and banish her from sight?
Let us take the war to her...and make her fear our might!
We shall take the war to her...and bring her crimes to light!
                       What say you?"

Obsideon studies the faces around him. Obsideon bows. Obsideon grins.

Obsideon says, "I think perhaps we must chase some happier thoughts now...." Obsideon grins.

Obsideon says, "I'd like to propose a toast to some of our favourite people. I can only hope that they have a sense of humour. I call this dangerous little ditty "Urban Rangers"."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Here's a toast to the Urban Rangers.
For our nest eggs, we've them to thank.
They've turned us into zealous savers.
Now if we could get interest at the bank."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Raise a glass to the Urban Rangers.
    Skulking in the shadows deep.
    You're our own wealth rearrangers.
What we had is yours to keep."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Here's to you, you Urban Rangers.
Here's to hurdles you must mount.
In the shops of our fair city,
Fast fingers give a deep discount."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Drink to the health of the Urban Rangers.
Perhaps they don't deserve our curse.
Their training helps us learn perception.
Their training empties out our purse."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Down a drink to the Urban Rangers.
To our lives they add some spice.
    Braving boomers, fleas, and naptha.
They pick our boxes...for a price."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

   "Everyone loves the Urban Rangers.
    Then again...maybe not.
When they're working, we're in danger.
What we had is what they've got."

Obsideon bows.

Obsideon chuckles. Obsideon asks, "Better?"

Obsideon says, "Now here's a tale of one of our world's more...colourful...characters."

Obsideon says, "I hope you like his story."

Obsideon tilts his ears forward playfully.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Oh Gaardik was an ogre, but he didn't like the life.
He didn't like the struggle and he didn't like the strife.
He wanted to be friendly, but each hunter that he'd see
Would try to cut him down to size. He had no choice but flee."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"One morning Gaardik found a corpse with something in it's hand.
A bottle of a strange, strange stuff that he didn't understand.
He poked it. Then he smelled it. Then he finally took some sips.
He blinked. And grinned. And sipped some more. Then Gaardik licked his lips."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"So Gaardik learned to love the booze, whenever he could find it.
It made his head and stomach spin, but he really didn't mind it.
It slowly sunk into his brain where he could get some more.
The human town...the Crossing place...could be a ready store."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"So Gaardik snuck into town one night...into the Viper's Nest.
To the patrons of that noisome place, he was just like all the rest.
Ugly, drunk, and smelly, too...he fit in with the crowd.
He sang off key and lost his lunch and shouted far too loud."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"The next night he came back again. And then another night.
He drank, caroused, and made some friends. But then, there was the fight.
A brawl broke out throughout the bar and dragged each patron in.
Bottles, knives, and saps were drawn. He grinned a joyous grin."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"When a street thug swung at Gaardik, he thought he really had enough!
These wretched folk just didn't know how to be ogre tough.
He yelled a yell and grabbed a chair and tore into the fray.
And not a single brawler stood in the crazy ogre's way. "

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And heads were crushed, eyes poked out, arms torn out by the roots.
He even swung a dwarf around, held by the poor sap's boots!
And one by one, the fighters fell. Gaardik finally stood alone.
He'd taken on the feisty crowd, and beat them on his own."

Obsideon chuckles.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"He was hired that very night. Young Gaardik had a job!
A bouncer for the roughest place, to tame the wildest mob.
He's paid a measly pittance, but it really matters not.
He's happy in his newfound place, and happy with his lot."

Obsideon playfully sings in a countertenor voice:

"A funny thing...since that night...there's not been a single brawl.
A look from the drunken ogre simply seems to cow them all.
And as for Gaardik, in his job, there's no place he rather be.
He's found a heaven, here on earth...for all his drinks are free!"

Obsideon bows. Obsideon smiles and winks at you. Obsideon grins.

Obsideon says, "Now this isn't a tale of my heart, but it's certainly a tale of a friend's."

Obsideon says, "And I suspect it's a tale of many hearts out there. "

Obsideon says, "Only you will know."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She waited by the sidelines, and watched without a word.
Her patience was a wonder. Seen, but rarely heard.
It hurt her so to see his pain. His joy hurt her, as well.
Each laugh. Each kiss. Each hug. Each smile. Each was a private hell."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"For, you see, he loved another, or at least he thought he did.
And he even told the world at large that they both would wed.
But the love, it had a fatal flaw. In love with love alone.
Not diamond hard, nor diamond strong. A fragile flawed gemstone."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Loyalty was his greatest strength...and his greatest bane.
His love left him a dozen times...and then came back again.
Each time his heart was broken. Each time his spirit lost.
Each time he offered it again, regardless of the cost."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"He knew it wasn't going to last, but he couldn't let it go.
His lady also was his friend, and he cared for her so.
She needed him in some strange way. He needed her as well.
Quite why they drew together, neither could really tell."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And so the day, it finally came. She walked away again.
This time he couldn't take her back. This time the love would end.
And so his heart broke up again. But he stiffened his resolve.
This time they both would move along and find a different love."

Obsideon's ears droop for a moment.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"He wandered, soul torn, through the Lands. His eyes could see, but blind.
He sat alone in shadowed dales. He walked in his own mind.
His heart was empty, torn and worn. Death called with tempting peace.
The future offered little joy. The Starry Road...release."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Into his shadows, deep and dark, the waiting watcher stepped.
Her silent care brought comfort there. He leaned on her and wept.
She held him close and dried his tears. And gave a gentle kiss.
She whispered of her love for him. He watched her, powerless."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Hand in hand they both walked out, back into the sun.
Cautious in their newfound joy...their new love, just begun.
His world had colour once again...and a cause for hope.
She'd drawn him back from the abyss...saved from the slippery slope."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"They talked, and laughed, and laughed, and talked. And gazed at one another.
They danced in fields of bright wildflowers. They learned about each other.
Their friendship grew. Their love grew, too. They began to grow as one.
They faced the future, hand in hand. Together...not alone."

Obsideon happily sings in a countertenor voice:

"They still lived lives of separate paths. Separate laughs and friends.
But when they were together! Ohh...the joy would never end!
Fun and heartbreak. Tears and grins. All were best when shared.
By caring for each other most, the worst of pain was spared."

Obsideon's ears droop for a moment.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"But all was still not happy. It seemed it wasn't meant to be.
His new love and his old love were best of friends, you see.
Sometimes the day would bring out clouds of hurt and guilt and pain.
Silent tears, frustrated fears, regrets of friendship, slain. "

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And so they wander on their way. Each step a new beginning.
They hold out hope for each new day. A new attempt at winning.
Our lovers will survive their trials, if they both want it so.
While separate they are both fine folk, together, they are whole."

Obsideon smiles as he bends over his lute. The melody seems to be a little brighter, but you can't really be sure how it changed. He glances your way, and seems to look deep into your soul.

Obsideon hauntingly sings in a countertenor voice:

"The heart's a strange taskmaster, with humour of a kind.
It messes with your spirit, and plays havoc with your mind.
Just when you think you've got it straight, it turns your life around.
And pity the poor souls who think an answer they have found."

Obsideon happily sings in a countertenor voice:

"But don't lose hope for true love's course. It waits for those who seek.
Sometimes it hides, wears dark disguise, and lurks in corners deep.
Sometimes an ambush is its plan. It strikes swiftly from behind.
Sometimes it's plain for all to see, as if from the Gods' design."

Obsideon confidently sings in a countertenor voice:

"Each love takes work, and nurturing. Each love's a fragile flower.
Water love each day with care. Invest in every hour.
Be sure to talk, and share your fears. Communicate your heart.
And think of each other's cares and wants, even when you're far apart."

Obsideon sternly sings in a countertenor voice:

"Don't run away, when troubles stay. Fight for your love to live.
And most of all, come each nightfall, be ready to forgive.
Welcome each kiss and caring. Hold tight to love, steadfast.
Give more than you take, my friend. And then your love will last."

Obsideon bows.

Obsideon says, "I have a couple more songs to share with you...one full of sadness...and a final one full of hope."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I have a hole torn in my soul, and I chose to put it there.
I knew my choices had their cost and the price paid would be dear.
But I made the choice regardless. There seemed no other way
To move my troubled soul along. To say what I had to say."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I knew that it would cause great pain. My choice to walk this road.
But my strength had seeped away on me. I could no longer bear the load.
Some have called it strong and brave, to make this painful call.
A fateful dare. A courage rare, to step outside it all."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Some have called me craven, not to finish what I'd begun.
A whining weakling, faint of heart, who chose to cut and run.
And some have called me selfish. And perhaps they're right.
To put myself above all else. To give up on the fight."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"What is this dreadful crime of mine? What am I accused of?
My shameful deed is simply this...I walked away from love.
For there is one who loves me. I loved her in return.
We faced the future hand in hand. Together we would learn."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She is the mother of my child. The partner in my life.
My mate. My muse. My other half. My love. My fate. My wife.
But as the years flowed round us, we drifted far apart.
And then, one day, I realized something that broke my heart."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"We used to sit and talk for hours, sometimes long into night.
But our daily communion had somehow faded out of sight.
Our visions were no longer shared. Our common dreams had died.
And, to my shame, when I denied, it was to myself I lied."

Obsideon sadly sings in a countertenor voice:

"I came to the fateful Crossroads one dark and lonely night.
And I resolved to take the path that to me seemed most right.
This gentle soul who made me whole must walk it without me.
We'd make our separate journeys, each see just what would be."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I made the dreadful choice that night. I chose to walk away.
And leave behind my love, my life, and what she had to say.
To seek anew a happiness. Perhaps another mate.
To halt the gentle death of love. To seek another fate."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And so I grieve, shed bitter tears, but not for what I've done.
I grieve for the loss of hopes and dreams, for life when we were one.
It's not her fault...that lies with me. I ignored my worried heart.
She's not to blame. It is my shame, that I let us drift apart."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"An empty desert broods, where once a verdant garden grew.
I watched each blossom fade and die. Stood silent, while I knew
That acquiescence was quite wrong. I should have voiced my doubt.
I can't help but think that if I'd fought, we could have worked it out."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"It may grow again, my garden green. I'll try to make it grow.
But who will till the soil with me? I really do not know.
I pray she'll find her garden. That I have to believe.
But I fear our gardens will not touch. And, for that, I grieve."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Can I help her build her garden? Or should I even try?
I have to build my own, as well. I will not let mine die.
I suppose that time will tell us. Together or apart.
We'll have to walk that road alone. Each true to our own heart."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Am I wrong? Do I have doubts? Oh Gods, of course I do.
But to quote a far, far better Bard, "To thine ownself, be true."
My guilt will be my burden. My companion in the dark.
But I will pray, with each new day, that my soul will keep its spark."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Don't sit and judge...or pity me. Just learn from my mistakes.
Don't let your love grow far apart. Commit to all it takes.
Don't let it fade from soft neglect. Or assume that it will thrive.
It needs a daily dose of care. To keep the dreams alive."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I have a hole torn in my soul. And I chose to put it there.
As the future years unfold, its consequence I'll bear.
On a tear stained page, I write these thoughts. Each drop a bitter blow
To confidence and hope and love. I wish it wasn't so."

Obsideon bows.

Obsideon says, "Thank you, my friends. I think I should finish with a final song...one of hope..."

Obsideon grins. Obsideon says, "Though it may not seem that way ..." Obsideon winks at Zinaca. Zinaca sniffles.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I stand before you, here and now, freely to confess
I am addicted to a drug that holds me powerless.
I crave this drug each waking hour. It dominates my mind.
And worst of all, a cure to it, I never seek to find."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"This drug has strength to make me feel both happy and alive.
And I know that should it go, I simply won't survive.
I seek it with a passion, borne of desperate need.
I scheme and plot to buy its time, and on its high I feed."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"This craving walks with me each day and haunts me in my sleep.
It sings to me a siren song that makes me want to keep
Each rendezvous...each chance I can, to drink its heady brew.
Embrace each moment. Nothing else. It's all I want to do."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"And when the rapture passes, and I'm down to earth once more,
A sadness seeps into my heart. It strikes me at my core.
The longing starts to grow again, the moment I'm without.
Distraction has no draw for me. It's all I think about."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"I know I'm mad to feel this way. But it's a madness that I seek.
This madness doesn't sap my strength. It doesn't leave me weak.
Instead I get a courage strong to be a better man.
To chase my fate and persevere. To be all that I can."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"A Rose by any other name, I'm told would smell as sweet.
Whatever name addiction takes, it adds wings to my feet.
It's in my blood, and in my heart. Gives meaning to each day.
It welcomes me each morning and speeds me on my way."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"What is the drug that holds me thrall and dominates my life?"

Obsideon tilts his ears forward playfully. Obsideon says, "Well..." Obsideon grins mischievously.

Obsideon happily sings in a countertenor voice:

"I'll tell you now, I pray, some day, she'll agree to be my wife."

Obsideon winks. Obsideon bows.

Obsideon says, "Well, my friends...I hope that you had a good time this evening...."

Obsideon says, "I know that I have."

Artila nods. Kesrel looks at Obsideon and applauds! Solarri exclaims, "Aye!" Zinaca lets out a hearty cheer for Obsideon! Farman exclaims, "encore!" True beams at Obsideon! Zinaca exclaims, "encore!" Zinaca exclaims, "encore!" Mykk takes a sip of his Favor. Solarri trills at Obsideon, her tail undulating up and down. Rowyr lets out a loud "Huzzah!" Zinaca looks at Obsideon and applauds! True gives Obsideon some coins. Zinaca exclaims, "Bravo!" Daerlynn grins at Obsideon. Kesrel praises Obsideon. Artila stands up. Artila looks at Obsideon and applauds! Farman applauds enthusiastically and flips a platinum Kronar in Obsideon's direction. He snatches it nimbly from the air!

Obsideon grins. Obsideon exclaims, "But I ended with my best song!" Obsideon grins. Obsideon winks. Zinaca grins. Daerlynn giggles. Zinaca exclaims, "so sing your worst!" Kesrel says, "They're all stunning." Kesrel nods. Daerlynn says, "There's always another song." Daerlynn nods. Zinaca exclaims, "it 'can't be as bad as mine!" True grins. Obsideon says, "One last laugh then..." Obsideon grins.

Obsideon says, "Now this isn't one of my own songs. It is roughly based on an old, old song that I learned in my youth. But I've played with it a lot, and added some verses, so I guess I can call part of it my own. "

Obsideon says, "It's called "All the boys.""

Obsideon tilts his ears forward playfully.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She was a maiden, fair and fine, the pride of all her town.
And time it came for her seek a man to call her own.
And boys there were, both short and tall. Shy or full of fun.
With all this choice it should not be hard to find the very one!"

Obsideon playfully sings in a countertenor voice:

"Dickie be fine and Dickie be fair and wants her for to wed.
And she would marry Dickie, but her father up and said,
"I'm sorry to tell you daughter, for your mother never knew,
But Dickie is a son of mine...and so is kin to you." "

Obsideon playfully sings in a countertenor voice:

"Corick be fine and Corick be fair and wants her for to wed.
And she would marry Corick, but her father up and said,
"I'm sorry to tell you daughter, for your mother never knew,
But Corick, too's a son of mine...and so is kin to you.""

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"A brother couldn't be her man. It really wasn't right.
She checked in every place she could, all day and into night.
She looked throughout the city, checked each and every lad.
Each time she asked her father. Each time the news was bad."

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"Well you've never seen a maid so sad and sorry as she was.
The boys in town were ALL her kin, and her father was the cause.
If things should thus continue, she would die a single miss.
And so she went to Mother, and complained to her of this!"

Obsideon lays his ears back in alarm, gazing around warily.

Obsideon sings in a countertenor voice:

"She held her daughter tight and close, and wiped away her tears.
She listened to the cries of woe, and listened to the fears.
She listened to her daughter tell of her husband's lusty sin.
She settled back and smoothed her dress, and then she gave a grin!"

Obsideon mischievously sings in a countertenor voice:

"Now daughter, haven't I taught you to forgive and to forget?
And if your father sowed his oats, well, still, you needn't fret.
Your father may be father to all the boys, but still...
