Metals

Anlora-avtoma

Rare and bluish-white in color. May be Elothean in origin. Resistant to magic.

Damite

In its raw form, this is black, sort of like granite, only not as pretty, and very difficult to work with. In large quantities, it's even harder to work with. It isn't at all suited to jewelry use, but makes for nice weapons and maybe even armor, or so the rumor goes. This is also "very rare". Very hard, very flexible, and extremely heavy.

Glaes

This is a gorgeous metal -- sort of a glossy, near-translucent blue-black. If a smith is god-like in his abilities, it will go white in the forging process, at which point it can be colored with crushed gems. It is found in veins of lava, in extremely tiny quantities. It is qualified "extremely rare". Extremely hard, extremely flexible, extremely heavy.

Kertig

These are tiny blobs of silvery-black metal that comes from meteors and comets, so keep your eyes on the skies! Or, since it weighs a lot more than lead, maybe keep digging deeper, because when this hits the ground, it usually ends up several feet below it. Beautiful enough to be used for (weighty) jewelry, this extremely rare metal is much more commonly used by forgers. Absurdly hard, fairly flexable, very heavy.

Lumium

Looks sort of like the dull side of tin foil. Not very pretty, and not used much for jewelry purposes, because, well, it looks like cheap silver, and if you're going to have something that looks like cheap silver, you might as well just have silver, get it scuffed up, and use this in a weapon anyway! This is classified as "very rare". Very soft, extremely rigid, extremely light.

Niniam

This is a sort of sedimentary substance, sort of like the limestone you'd find in the cracks of old igneous rocks. Its crystal form is a white powder, while its metal form is a dark blue-grey. It takes a LOT of heat to work with, and isn't in the least suitable for jewelry. Another "very rare" substance. Hard, somewhat brittle, very light.

Silks

Firesilk

A fabric containing red silk threads that cause the fabric to shimmer with red fire as the light catches it.

Moonsilk

A very pale blue silk with an opalescent sheen, stone-washed to give it a heavy texture and a slight nap.

Nightsilk

A unique form of spidersilk, harvested specifically from the black spiders that live within the mists of the Forest of Night.

Shadowsilk

A specially processed, magical form of silk that absorbs light rather than reflecting it.

Spidersilk

Silk harvested from spiders, particularly the larger ones, and processed using secret techniques invented by Demosel. Creates an incredibly strong but lightweight material.

Steelsilk

A strong silk with strands of steel in the weave used for the reinforcement of seams and containers.

Stormsilk

A fabric containing spun platinum and tarnished silver warp threads ranging in color from black to grey to silver that give it a stormy look, making the fabric appear to crackle with electricity when the light catches it.

Watersilk

A supple fabric-like material that drapes and shimmers beautifully, holding the lustre of silk and movement of water.

Nightreaver/Nightweaver/Nightstalker silk

Thick, strong silks with a very high luster. Comes from the corresponding types of unyns.

Gems

Diamonds

Blue Diamond

Rare and exceptional.

Dalterein Diamond

Named for Natashya Dalterein, this incredibly rare gem must undergo a special process known only to Immokokkon and Sons before it gains its exceptional qualities. As the time of day changes, the inner hues of the diamond slowly shift between different colors. Only three are currently known to exist. The first said to reside in the Princess' diadem, the second belonging to Master Artisan Anguisian and residing in a ring, and the third having been auctioned off by the Immokokkons on the hilt of a dagger, current location unknown.

Molten-core Diamond

(more information needed)

Pink Diamond

From far southern mines.

Smoky Diamond

Has prismic earthy tones.

White Diamond

The purest of all.

Rubies

Blood Ruby

? Referenced as a type of jewel used in Lyras' staff.

Imperial Ruby

A rare kind of ruby with seven rays instead of the more common six, called an imperial ruby in tribute to the Seven Star Empire.

Midnight Ruby

The most glamorous of the deep-red rubies, the midnight ruby has a black lustre which gives the gem a velvet-like texture. Often found in ground beneath obsidian, it shows best in full daylight, where its claret personality can overcome daunting ebony overtones. This gem does not do well when paired with other stones, and works best as a brooch or pendant. It is found in good, large qualities of 2 or more carats. This gem is often offered as a talisman to ward off evil. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Moonspun Ruby

A shaft of silver generally runs through the center of a moonspun ruby, giving it a distinctive appearance which many mistake for a pink topaz. The color range for this gem is anywhere from pale pink to deep rose, and the best are cut so the silver shaft resembles a crescent moon. This "flaw" of the mineral emits sharp silvery glints that "erupt" from the surrounding shade. The moonspun ruby is exceptionally rare, and never found in finished pieces of more than a half-carat. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Serpent Ruby

A ruby with a single inclusion running down the center of the gem, causing it to resemble the slitted eye of a serpent.

Star Ruby

The common name for any ruby displaying the property of asterism, which is an impurity that causes the appearance of a multi-rayed star when light strikes the gem.

Starlight Ruby

Gossamer pink which glitters in deep reds and silvers, and often possesses what appears to be a star nestled near its center. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Teiro's Hate Ruby

An incredibly rare ruby that has only to date been found on Andreshlew. This ruby is a rich blood red with night-black inclusions in the heart of the gem.

Emeralds

Glacier Emerald

A very rare pale green emerald from deep in the mountains of Ker'Leor. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Nature's Canopy Emerald

Variegated greens mar the emerald, giving it a planetoid look.

Winter Emerald

Mined deep within the mountains of Ker'Leor, the winter emerald is so named because of the perpetual layer of snow which blankets the upper atmospheres of that range. Of a deep green, the emerald is a favorite of the Elothean Lorethew, who spent enormous sums to carve the gem into artistic shapes. Faceted along each curve, for example, a winter emerald in the shape of a spiral appears twice its size and glitters wonderfully in even the lowest light. It is a dense gem, as is appropriate to this kind of lapidation. It is deep green in color, which flashes with hints of gold and silver. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Sapphires

Crimson Sapphire

Truly rare, is of a delicate rose to peachy color, usually featuring one or two stars.

Imperial Sapphire

A rare kind of sapphire with seven rays instead of the more common six, called an imperial sapphire in tribute to the Seven Star Empire.

Star Sapphire

The common name for any sapphire displaying the property of asterism, which is an impurity that causes the appearance of a multi-rayed star when light strikes the gem.

Tempest Sapphire

A stormy mixture of blue and grey with just a hint of darkness in its depths.

Twilight Sapphire

Usually colored a deep blue, has at least three stars upon its polished surface. The finest examples have one large star in the center with two or three smaller ones around it. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Topazes

Imperial Topaz

May refer to two things: A rare topaz with a brilliant golden yellow hue, or a topaz with seven rays instead of the more common six, called an imperial topaz in tribute to the Seven Star Empire.

Saffron Topaz

Mined from an area north of Langenfirth, this topaz is a deep orange color like saffron. Uncut, it can at first glance resemble amber. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Smoky Topaz

Traditional and high-quality. Though the name is often associated with the dark brown color, it can range anywhere from dark yellow to near-ebony. One of the gems worked by Immokokkon and Sons.

Starfire Topaz

A particularly vibrant bicolored blue and white (clear) topaz.

Xibar Topaz

These topazes rain down from the sky when the moon Xibar moves especially close to Elanthia, which only happens once every few decades. While it remains close to Elanthia, special devices called gweriela can be used to send colored topazes that represent different emotions which vanish when Xibar moves away. The clear Xibar topazes that rain from the heavens remain, however, and are considered extremely rare.

Opals

Frostflare Opal

Tiny multihued snowflake-shaped crystals hang suspended in the heart of the frostflare opal.

Sunset Opal

This painfully rare pale pink opal, with its mixture of deep blue, forest green, gold, silver and crimson flecks, catches the light and creates a fiery, sunset-like explosion in any jewelry setting.

Nightfire Opal

Information Needed

Pearls

Damaryn Pearl

Once known as the 'Eye of Damaris', this pearl is a pale shade of grey with faint blue striations that shimmer within its depths.

Dafora Pearl

As bright a yellow as the heart of the sun. These pearls are best set off by a platinum or silver setting.

Damilyo Pearl

The damilyo pearl is the prize of Surlaenis. Named for its luminous sheen, the tiny jewels deserve their name of 'starfire'.

Fang Pearl

An iridescent silver-grey pearl with natural streaks of red marbling.

Geshi Pearl

The 'ice' pearls are as white as the snow on the mountain rim.

Idopun Pearl

Black as night, the idopun pearls have an exquisite lustre.

Moon Pearl

Coveted for its rarity, this pearl can only be harvested by the Merelew, from oysters that live in the deepest depths of the ocean. Its lustrous pale blue sheen is reminiscent of Xibar's moonlight.

Talan Pearl

The talan pearls are a rose pink color that darkens to crimson in weak light.

Other/Misc

Chakrel

See full entry under Chakrel.

Crystalline Dragon's Tear

Info needed.

Dragonfire Amber

Special techniques known only by the artisan Vashlar Wyrmtongue are used to extract sap from the dragonwood tree which is hardened into this amber. It is a rich golden hue with twisting dark red inclusions.

Dragon's Blood Crystal

Rare gem only found in Vashlar Wyrmtongue's wares. It is dark red like freshly spilled blood with tiny golden inclusions.

Glowstone

[A stone that glows. No other information found on it.]

Neitrice

An apparently anti-magic material that is briefly mentioned in The Forest of Night.

Woods

See Notes on the Mineral Bearing Trees.

Magic Enhancers

The below materials are found in items created by the merchant Halsyrr, student of Imadrakhet. [1]

Dhhresh

Discovered by the brilliant alchemist Q'zhialamon, dhhresh is a unique ceramic compound which accelerates the targetting of attack spells.

Ithridu

An alloy of several lesser alchemical radicals with neitrice, a small quantity of ithridu worn on the body can improve one's ability to cast a spell.

Keismin

Through a secret process handed down through the generations, our family extracts alchemical-grade ismenite from star-iron, then bonds it with aethereal radicals to produce keismin, a substance which can be used to accelerate the preparation of a spell.

Negnetha

Water and Earth elementals are employed in the production of Oil of Negnetha, which is then added to a vitreous damarisine fluid and quick-hardened to produce a dark, shiny metallic material which can improve one's aim with a targetted spell.
