To clarify - several abilities will be replacing passive BMR. These range from damage reducers that work only on magic spells, to barriers of varying strengths and penalties, and even an ability that increases the effect of magic on you in return for a large boost to your killing potential. It is true the strongest of the barriers will negate many of your abilities. But that is the new Magic 3.0 model from which everything is being based on.

I also have plans for making Roar Lash interrupt spell preparation and Roar Torment to penalize mana usage in the room. Those, combined with the new Mageslayer tactics (allows for a called head-shot with any weapon that does little damage, but significantly penalizes the mage's PM skill), should give you many more ways to deal with mages.
