Many areas within the game require a light source to navigate.

Items

The following items provide, or facilitate the creation of, a light source. Lighters and flints are on this list as, with minimal skill, burnable items such as sticks and limbs can be foraged and lit quickly to provide light.

Gaethzen

Gaethzen is a material that acts as a magical light sources powered by mana. You use them almost exactly as you use Cambrinth items, however instead of getting your mana back, you get light instead! A light source becomes very handy if you're going into a dark area and need to be able to see your way around.

Gaethzen items are extremely fragile. If you DROP them, they will shatter. LOWER GROUND for a hands free light source. They are also like Cambrinth in that they become attuned to whatever magic they were first charged with. So if you as an Empath charge it with Life Magic, then give it to a Cleric, who tries to charge it with Holy Magic, you can kiss the gaethzen goodbye! Gaethzen can be retuned by a Moon Mage, just like Cambrinth.

Using Gaethzen

  • CHARGE <item> <amount>: Charges your gaethzen with mana to fuel the enchantment.
The more you charge your gaethzen, the longer the light will last, up to it's maximum capacity.
  • FOCUS <item>: To forge a magical link to it.
  • RUB <item>: To activate it. Rub it again to deactivate it.

When the mana fueling it is spent, your gaethzen item will simply extinguish itself.

Lighters

Lighters are items that will create a flame by POINTING the lighter at the target. In most cases, there is no functional difference to using these instead of a flint and blade, but they are a more convenient way to catch things on fire. There are issues when interacting with some materials due to the antique nature of the coding of fire.

Verbs

  • POINT LIGHTER AT <flammable item>: You quickly flick the switch on the back of the <lighter>, pointing it at a <item> as flames shoot out the creature's mouth, making the <item> quickly catch fire.
  • POINT LIGHTER AT <nonflammable item>: That doesn't look very flammable.
  • POINT LIGHTER AT <person>: You flick the switch on the back of your <lighter> quickly, causing it to spout a stream of flames at <person>'s <body part>! <He/She> dodges just in time, escaping injury.
<Person> points <his/her> <lighter> directly at your <body part>, and before you can blink, a bright flame shoots out the creature's mouth at you. You dodge just in time, escaping injury.
You flick the switch on the back of your <lighter> quickly, causing it to spout a stream of flames at <person>'s abdomen! <He/She> doesnt quite duck in time, getting just a bit singed.
<Person> points <his/her> <lighter> directly at your abdomen, and before you can blink, a bright flame shoots out the creature's mouth at you. You don't quite duck in time, getting just a bit singed.
  • RUB: You absentmindedly rub your <lighter>, running your thumb around each intricately detailed scale.
