Fernika was born on the 38th day of the 8th month of Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe in the year of the Crystal Snow Hare, 419 years after the victory of Lanival the Redeemer.
Description
You see Fernika Sfozlstraut, a Rakash.
She has a round face, sparkling moss-green eyes and a pointy nose. Her ash-blonde hair is shoulder length and wavy, and is worn in a tousled mass of locks that tumbles over her shoulders. She has fair skin and a plump figure.
She is slightly below average height for a Rakash.
She is wearing a jadeite gwethdesuan, a hammered bronze torque capped in soulstone, a supple leather coat bearing a repeated pattern of purple-limned eyes, a knitted wool tunic, a silver linen blouse, some lavender quilted leggings, a metal target shield, a woven shoulder tote, a simple belt knife and a divine charm.
Background
Fernika has spent much of her short life in Siksraja, where most of her family farms the surrounding land and sells produce to both local and more distant markets. The Sfozlstrauts are known for their small brookside apple orchard which produces a particularly fine silvery-red variety of the fruit.
After suffering a childhood accident and a protracted illness, Fernika was left sickly and largely confined to her bed, a state that continued for much of her youth despite the best efforts of a series of mystified healers. But she made an unexpected and mysterious recovery just after her fourteenth birthday, following -- so she told everyone -- a dream in which a badger and a nightingale spoke to her. It still took some time for her to build up the strength that her confinement had never allowed her to develop, and in her attempts to achieve greater independence Fernika also found herself thwarted at every turn -- or so she saw it -- by her very loving and protective family, who had lingering concerns about their youngest child's health and were also not greatly reassured by her strange talk of dreams.
And so, deeply frustrated and feeling smothered, Fernika ran away from home a little over a year ago... and has yet to return. Now she's come to Crossing and joined the Paladin Guild, perhaps on account of the stories she grew up on, or perhaps for other reasons of her own. She still has dreams, after all.
Personality
Fernika is a generally cheerful and positive person, readily accepting of hardships and willing to make the best of bad situations. She is deeply concerned for the well-being of others and has a strong sense of justice, particularly where it concerns the poor and oppressed. She sometimes has a tendency towards laziness and daydreaming, though she's also well aware that this is one of her shortcomings and after seeing this in herself will sometimes turn around and make almost fanatical efforts at being disciplined instead. Being young, she's still a little naive and likes to think the best of people. And also being young, and most particularly a teenager, she is also occasionally given to fits of melodrama and moodiness, though these quickly pass. Usually.
