Avoid command
The AVOID command allows you to manage the allowance or prevention of various activities directed towards your character. For quickly changing all options, you can use the ALL keyword.
Syntax
AVOID flag settings: (! means no.) Example; AVOID JOIN allows joining, AVOID !JOIN disables the ability of others to join you. AVOID !ALL sets them all to NO, AVOID ALL clears them all.
- Dancing: Allows/disallows attempts to DANCE with you.
- Dragging: Allows/disallows attempts to DRAG you. CAUTION: Your corpse can not be dragged by another character (to aid) when the flag is set to avoid dragging.
- Holding: Allows/disallows attempts to HOLD. (For grouping.)
- Joining: Allows/disallows attempts to JOIN. (For grouping.)
- Teaching: Allows/disallows attempts to TEACH you. (For gaining Scholarship experience as well as the skill being taught - or not.)
- Touching: Allows/disallows attempts to TOUCH you. Mostly used by Empaths during Empathic healing of your wounds.[1]
- Whispering: Allows/disallows attempts to WHISPER to you.
- Coins: Allows/disallows attempts to hand <GIVE/SHARE> coins to/with you.
- Crime: Allows/disallows attempts to lead you into crime via the Breaking and Entering system as a member of the group.
[Thief Only]
- Singing: Highly recommended Thieves opt into this flag setting to avoid singing by typo when using sign language.
When just typing the basic avoid, it will set the option to be allowed. If a "!" is placed before the option, it will disable the option.
Interaction With Demeanor
Sometimes, DEMEANOR and avoid flags can affect the same systems. In general, if you have an avoid turned on, you're going to avoid that interaction regardless of your demeanor setting. On the other hand, if you have an avoid turned off, your demeanor may prevent an interaction even though you aren't specifically trying to avoid it.
Special Notes
- AVOID !TEACH will hide your relative skill level while teaching a class to potential students who use the ASSESS TEACH command.
- AVOID !TEACH will make it impossible to learn VT (ventriloquism) from another player character.
