Architectural and Landscaping Association of Elanthia

From Elanthipedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Association is a means by which players are able to create their own areas within the game. These areas range from woods, caverns, and dungeons to buildings, houses, and structures. Players create rooms, inanimate objects (such as benches, trees, etc.), portals (doors, arches, etc.), and eventually minor traps and puzzles. A room creator may also choose to leave bait in their area in order to encourage creatures to inhabit their new creation.

The ALAE is open only to Platinum players. Being a part of ALAE opens up two commands, BUILD and NEWALAE.

Zones are built out in Grey Wind Manor.

How to Reach Grey Wind Manor

Grey Wind Manor is located at the first room in Laakvor (RanikMap3). From the landing, take the oval portal to the vestibule, then take the sky-colored door to the Sky Room. In there is a crystal you can GET to teleport you to your development area. Alternatively, you can PUSH your ALAE pin to reach the vestibule from anywhere in the world. Pushing it again will [sometimes?] take you back to where you started.

[Grey Wind Manor, Sky Room]
Painted a stunning sky blue, this room is ominously empty except for the marble pedestal sitting in the exact center. A glowing crystal rests atop it, silently beckoning you to take a closer look.
Obvious exits: out.

GET glowing crystal: As you start to pick up the glowing crystal, your surroundings blur into a mishmash of fading colors. Just for a moment, you feel a faint touch of dizzyness and then everything becomes grey...

[The Creation House, Storage Room]
Four brick walls, a green tiled floor and a purple ceiling surround you. Though few would find it tasteful, the room still manages to exude a cozy atmosphere. The room is illuminated, though the source of light is not evident.
Obvious exits: none.

Now you're in the development zone and ready to BUILD areas! You can either use your pin or BUILD go manor to return back to the game world.

Tutorial

Now that you're in ALAE (or just want to know how to ALAE works!) you might want to see how to go through building a room. So lets build one!

Building a New Room

BUILD room: You summon your creative talents and force your will upon your surroundings. A roaring explosion outside rocks the house, and clouds of dust rain down from the rafters above. A sense of accomplishment fills you as the mists impart the knowledge of the successful creation.

Result

[Eldritch Mists]
A sea of eerie grey mists fill the world, twisting and turning before your eyes. Strange tendrils of the smoky grey mists pass before you without any help from weather or wind. The unsettling silence of this weird sojourn seems to call out to you, pleading for attention.
Obvious paths: none.

Adding a Room Name

BUILD name set [text]: Bending your will to your surroundings, you make a subtle change to its nature...

Adding a Room Description

BUILD daytext set [text]: Bending your will to your surroundings, you make a subtle change to its nature...

Result

[The ALAE Tutorial, Elanthipedia Sample Room]
Dozens of hunchbacked Gnomes trudge stacks of papers back and forth across this tightly packed room, making sure the data for Elanthipedia is properly archived and organized for the greater good. A scowling Gor'tog covered in tyrium cracks a whip anytime one of them slows down.
Obvious paths: none.

Note: Be sure to also add a BRIEFDAY version, which would be shown if the player has RoomBrief SET. One way to determine if something should go in the brief version is if a descriptor is needed to understand what the room depicts. Can your thick soot-covered walls just be soot-covered, for example.

Note: Depending on the context of the room (would what you see change at night?), you may need to only create a "day" version.

Creating a Prop

A prop is any object that helps create a more interactive setting for your room. It could be anything from a notable rock to a [non-scripted] NPC.

Generating the Prop

BUILD prop: You bend your will upon your surroundings. With a little coaxing, the mists coalesce into an unfinished object.

Naming the Prop

Note: This will become your item's noun.

LOOK gor'tog: Covered head to toe in the deep purple metal, the brawny 'Tog loudly bellows out commands about updating databases at every Gnome that scuttles by. A silversteel badge etched with the name "Caraamon" is riveted to his tyrium-scaled coat.

Hiding the Prop

NOTE: You may not always want to have the prop easily seen. You have the ability to hide props you create.

POINT gor'tog: Spinning your finger in lazy circles, you call forth the mists, beseeching them to conceal the scowling Gor'tog.
