The alabaster murex is a predatory species of sea snail and often referred to as the murex or rock snails. The shell of these snails is distinctively large, fusiform, and often crisply white, though it may also be ivory.

Some key features of alabaster shell is its spiraling shape with jutting spikes from which a multitude of spine or fin-like pieces of shell will follow.
