New page

spoilers

This page provides Prydaen and Necromantic lore context for Zharen's characterization. It distinguishes published setting material from the character player's explanation of his chosen title and ambitions.

The Prydaen Wheel
The Claw of Tenemlor Elder describes death as a period of rest followed by rebirth. Tenemlor hushes the Prydaen's past lives without erasing them. The account in On Death and the Soul likewise describes the survival of consciousness through the Wheel and the hushing of memories before rebirth.

Speaking specifically to a Necromancer, the Elder recalls Prydaen who took up necromancy to fight Lyras and condemns their decision as a cost that cut them off from the Wheel. This is setting context; it does not establish that Zharen personally fought in the war against Lyras or had this conversation with the Elder.

The player's interpretation of Wheel Breaker makes that rupture central to Zharen's identity. He seeks the right to determine his own future and retain his knowledge, memories and will, rather than accept a fate set by a higher power. The custom title's documented origin is separate from that personal meaning.

The Great Work
The published account of the Philosophers of the Knife describes their rejection of demonic excess and the gods' moral authority, their pursuit of Transcendence, and their belief that mortals may become free of fate and gods. It also describes differences between individual Philosophers' versions of the Great Work, including ambitions extending beyond the practitioner.

Zharen's player defines his particular ambition as making freedom a viable choice for everyone who wants it. That is an intended character motivation, not evidence that he has completed the Great Work or discovered a proven means of escaping divine authority. His stated purpose does not establish the morality of every method he employs.
