|p=The problem with counting enough parry ranks to make a difference, is it generally makes shield a useless skill worth removing entirely.

If you have 1000 parry and used 700 of those ranks for defense, why would you ever use your shield if you only have 700 ranks in it? (common because armor is often a skillset down from weapons). Shields hinder, take up an arm slot and are heavy.

We don't really want to remove shield entirely... so if you want to block ranged attacks you had better use a shield. 3.0 is about making skills more meaningful. Not removing the need for them entirely.
