who drives the darkness away 
and draws forth the golden grain from the black earth 
to foster us who are bread-eating mortals; 
Or whether you are Terrible Asketi, 
queen of midnight terrors, 
who burns the land with the cold north wind 
when we fail to do proper honor to you; 
Or whether you are Gentle Hodierna 
who heals us as you heal the winter ravaged land -- 
O in whatever form you wish to appear, 
by whatever name it is fitting to call you, 
with whatever words you are pleased to be propitiated -- 
Come now and succor me in my hour of need. 
If ever I have pleased you before with word or deed, 
if ever I have shown you obedience and devotion, 
then fulfill this prayer of mine now. 
You planted in me the seed of life; 
now I beg that you put an end to my pains and toils. 
 
Is it some mortal who harms me? 
Shield me from him. 
Is it some immortal god whom I have angered? 
Change anger to kindness. 
Is it my fate? 
Turn it aside. 
Allow me to live blessedly. 
Allow me to live gloriously. 
I know well that this is in your power, 
for you are the great goddess!
