Using a potency crystal will unlock the ability to have more uses (charges) before the black vial is empty and deletes itself. Only a single crystal can ever be used. Without using one, the most uses the black vial can have is 50, and infuser stones will not work. After using a potency crystal, infuser stones can be used to increase the uses remaining up to 1000. 
 
You can use a potency crystal to unlock the ability to use infuser stones to add more uses to the black vial.
