Over this framework lies a dense covering of parchment-like feathers, arranged in overlapping tiers that mimic plumage. Its beak is sharply hooked, designed with brutal efficiency. Where claws would be, it bears elongated, bladed talons reminiscent of bookbinder's tools.

Broad wings extend from its frame as mantled structures rather than instruments of flight, composed of stiff layered song sheets and structural supports. Across its surface, faint shifting patterns of text ripple constantly, an illusion of flowing script that never resolves into readable form. Its eyes glow with a steady amber light, set deep within a gold-embossed head.

Strigine guardians are curious owl-like but flightless constructs born within Fenvol's Folly, animated experiments shaped from gathered library detritus and bound together through layered enchantment. Wrought as companions but altered by magical instability and a bond with their maker, they have become fiercely territorial sentinels, driven to protect every scrap of written knowledge in their domain. The endlessly shifting text that flows across their forms is not true script, but a persistent illusion, magic given motion, echoing the whirling thoughts of a distracted mind unable to focus.

The strigine guardian is known to cast the [[casts spell::Refractive Field]] and [[casts spell::Fluoresce]] spells.

They are known to carry loot in locked boxes.
