			HANGBACK remains active until stopped. When another combatant advances, it makes an automatic skill check to move you away and preserve distance. It does not guarantee that you will remain at missile or pole range: an opponent can overcome the attempt and continue closing.

⚫	: To stop, type HANGBACK STOP.
			Each failed attempt to hang back incurs [[roundtime]]. Repeated failures can therefore leave you with accumulating roundtime while an opponent continues to advance. Manual {{com\|retreat}} or {{com\|flee}} may be safer when an automatic attempt is unlikely to succeed.

			HANGBACK applies only to your character. A group leader can use {{tt\|GROUP RETREAT}} to order every member of a group to make a normal retreat attempt; see {{com\|group}}.
