May 2015: I do not believe Ghoul Crows from Aesry should be on this list. 62nd circle empath with Absolution cast got empathic shock trying to hunt them. Doing "perceive crow" showed a life essence. I believe that denotes a cursed creature as opposed to an undead one.
I would like there to be clear and consistent rules regarding aggressive but non-damaging magic/abilities. We say kicking, punching, slapping grants consent to be engaged in PvP by the "injured." Thumping also grants consent when the sole consequence is the inability to speak for a time, yet stunning, sleeping, and paralyzing renders the person incapable of ANY action for a time and they seem to be generally allowed and do not grant consent. Likewise, non-damaging hostile magic like debuffs have had fuzzy rules set to them. --NECKHOFF (talk) 22:51, 1 September 2016 (CDT)
Regarding the changes to depart/grip mechanics, I like this change. I question though if grave-robbing is necessary at all in this game. It is a relic of a 20 year old policy written when 99% of items were replaceable. Today with all the custom, altered, raffle, auction, rare-material items out there, it can pretty much ruin your entire gaming experience to have your things taken. Is there the possibility of eliminating grave-robbing entirely? It doesn't seem really that necessary anymore. --NECKHOFF (talk) 22:51, 1 September 2016 (CDT)

Consistency and sensibility about what can be forcibly wedged into consent could also use a bit of cleaning up. You don't own a room and can't commit violence to someone for being in 'your' hunting spot if they're not interfering, taking your loot or killing your critters - however, apparently you CAN commit violence if against someone if you give them clear warning you will kill them for doing actions such as speaking or gwething and this has been upheld as allowed. On a similar vein, you can of course kill an empath who is healing your opponent or others who are aiding her or him, but I've also witnessed it be allowed to kill clerics for raising a dead body or empaths for healing a dead body. These can be grey areas for sure, but is there a reason they need to be? --NECKHOFF (talk) 01:09, 2 September 2016 (CDT)
NECKHOFFhttps://elanthipedia.play.net/index.php?title=Talk:Policy:Character_purges&diff=452254Talk:Policy:Character purges2016-09-02T06:03:04Z
NECKHOFF: /* Discussion */

I would like to see meta and self-referential names (think names with the word MULE or PUFF or HEAL in them) prohibited as well as outright joke names like Came and Went. It is a frequent complaint (and I've struggled with it too) to come up with memorable snappy names since so many have come and gone, been used for throwaways and vault and house holders, mules etc - I think it would be fair to do a name purge. If it's possible to generate such a list, perhaps a purge of names of characters that meet all of these criteria: never advanced past 5th circle, associated account has been inactive for 7+ years, and the character has nothing of value in their possession. --NECKHOFF (talk) 22:34, 1 September 2016 (CDT)
NECKHOFFhttps://elanthipedia.play.net/index.php?title=Item:Weathered_ilomba_chest_with_vardite_hinges&diff=450575Item:Weathered ilomba chest with vardite hinges2016-08-10T15:05:48Z
NECKHOFF:

Basic Information
* This item is a Transmutation chest created during the Taisidon Safari 420 event.
* study: This appears to be a Transmutation Chest assembled from pieces recovered on the Taisidon Safari. You might have a magic user focus on it to unlock its secrets.
* focus (when ready to use): You hold the chest in your hands and detect focus lines of elemental magic contained within. A sliver of something unrecognizable encircles the lines giving them a warped appearance.

:The lines pulse quickly and are ready for activation.

:You believe the magic capable of transmuting metals into gems. Placing up to 100 volume of metal in the chest then tapping it will initiate the process. The quantity of metal and the presence of pure, un-mixed rare metals will affect how successful the outcome is. After completing a transmutation the magic will require some time to recover.
* tap (with items in the chest to transmute): Gradually the chest grows warm to the touch and hums slightly in your hands.

Transmutation
(This section is still in progress, being documented as information is obtained)

* There is a 10 minute cooldown to use the chest between transmutations.
* Based off the information from the Taisidon shaman and from the above FOCUS messaging, the overall volume and type of metal you place in the chest will determine the resulting gem. 5 items total may be placed into the chest at 1 time. Attempting to place a 6th item results in a message similar to when you reach the maximum quantity of items into a forging crucible.
* Hints from GM Kodius off the forums:
:* "The summed rarity of the metals in the chest will affect the chance for a rare item being generated. Note that alloys have no rarity, so pure rare metals will yield the best results."
:* "The total value will also need to be sufficient to be able to roll for the rare items. The chest will give a unique message when it could potentially generate the rare items."

UpdateDR3
RTOC
The Arcana skill (formerly known as Magical Devices) represents the character's academic knowledge of the concepts of magic. While some applications of this knowledge still requires Attunement (for example, memorizing a spell scroll), the skill itself is purely knowledge based and does not presume any magical talent on the character's part. As such, most non-magic users (NMUs) can freely learn and teach it. While the NMU uses of Arcana will be slowly opened to Barbarians in the coming months, please note that as an expression of your guild disadvantage, you may face penalties for being versed in Arcana.

Knowledge of Arcana allows the user to manipulate items imbued with magical energy, such as cambrinth, runestones, constellation jewelry, and wands. Other devices may be found in the Magical Items category.1

Training
*0 to ~80 ranks - Runestones can be focused repeatedly to train arcana and possibly the sorcery skill. The more difficult the spell, the greater the experience.
*10+ ranks - Initially difficult at very low ranks, Cambrinth is the main Arcana trainer. For best practices see the Cambrinth page.
*INVOKEing a spell scroll provides a large amount of Arcana experience.
*STUDYing a spell scroll provides an extremely large amount of Arcana experience.

Description
Jet black and looking very much like a giant wolf, the black leucro is half as tall as a normal sized human. Its eyes burn with a fire that suggests that it is more than an overgrown wolf. Something otherwordly seems to burn within its soul. Though often appearing in large groups, it seems to move with an independence that seems to go beyond the pack mentality of normal wolves. Perhaps that is for the best since you are almost certain that if they learned or desired to act in unison, you would be dead now.

In Depth
Special Attacks
Leucros can charge from pole range.

Area
The areas where these leucros live is heavily overgrown. With low perception and/or scouting ranks you will likely not go in the direction you intend when you move. This can make getting out of the area quite difficult.

Some other things to note:
*Moving around teaches minimal perception and scouting (if a ranger).
*Moving around drains your fatigue.
*Peering can cause roundtime as you climb a tree to look around.
*You can use a machete to HACK in a certain direction. This will make it easier to move in that direction.
*As perception and scouting increase you will be better able to move in your intended direction, until you are no longer hindered at all.

Skill Range Updates
Update 071914: At 215 ranks, mindstates rarely get above 1/34 even with 4 at melee.

Update 12/2013: Evasion learning dies out at about 234; Skinning still locked at 235 - Opticus
Description
Human only in size and form, this wretched creature is clearly powered by some supernatural energy. It is constantly in motion of some kind, sharply wrenching its decaying head from side to side or twitching its dead limbs erratically. Its body is covered with shredded remnants of clothing, but its skin underneath is corded with dessicated muscles that strain with its every movement.

In Depth
*Ambush attack that knocks you down but does no damage.

The Misenseor resuscitant leaps from hiding and ambushes you, startling you.

The Misenseor resuscitant suddenly coils back, clenching one hoary fist inside the other. With a sudden change in direction, it whips its fists towards your abdomen! The Misenseor resuscitant slams the balled fist into your abdomen with incredible power. The force of the blow sends you flying backwards, landing in a crumpled heap! The Misenseor resuscitant shrieks loudly in victory and points at you mockingly, its wretched face contorted into a hideous grin.

[You're very badly balanced with opponent in excellent position.]

* Boxes for Thieves with the appropriate skills can be opened with 90% efficiency at 300 ranks of locksmithing.
* Boxes for non thieves are challenging but mostly doable at 450 ranks of locksmithing.
Approximate order of difficulty: dingy, gloomy, murky, cinereous... atramentous, night dark

Started appearing after the Chrysalis opened and the Akul'tiz emerged. Was part of the Akul'tiz invasions. Located now in Li Surmi Gelv, entered through the Wicked Borrow Mine. Comes in various kinds: fuligin, dingy, dusky, atramentous, et cetera.

Description
The atramentous moth is a dark thing cloaked in flickering, baleful shadow, vaguely insectile in form. Its flesh seems nearly as mercurial as smoke, constantly evolving through irregular, chaotic shapes. The creature's bulbous compound eyes are utterly matte and unreflective, each crowned by an antenna which bears an uncanny resemblance to the soft, questing arm of an infant Human, complete with tiny growths resembling inquisitive, chubby fingers. A slick proboscis protrudes from the moth's mouth, dangling obscenely against its thorax. Most striking are the creature's massive wings, spreading fractally above and around its body like drops of dark ink shifting through water.

Recall
Said to have been created by the goddess Dergati, these creatures are made from an amalgamation of mundane flesh and shadow stuff. The umbral moth is strongest at night or in overcast weather, flinching from the light of the sun.

The moths feed by grappling with their prey, this proximity usually inspiring terror in the potential victim. Whether this is merely due to the moth's awful visage or some insidious poison or exudation is not known. The strong of mind can resist this attack, depriving the creature of the fear it needs to repair itself and grow stronger. Whether or not the moth feeds successfully, its savage 'kiss' tends to leave its victims tongueless and bleeding.

Messaging
A gloomy umbral moth glides in, shadows seeming to warp as it passes.

A gloomy umbral moth glides south in a whorl of shifting shadow.

Stunned: A dingy umbral moth staggers about drunkenly, its massive wings losing coherence.

Standing: A dingy umbral moth's wings beat soundlessly, returning it gracefully to an upright position.

Death: A dingy umbral moth's wings spasm one last time, drifting away from its body like a cloud of acrid smoke. The creature goes still, now nothing more than an ungainly mound of disintegrating shadow.

Now dead, the dingy moth resembles an ungainly mound of rapidly-dissipating shadow.

A dingy umbral moth crumbles into dust, quickly scattered by an errant breeze.

Spawning: A nearby shadow darkens and expands, coalescing into a gloomy umbral moth. Disorienting gusts of feeling roil through the area, accompanying the uncanny beast.

A painful lump rises in your throat as some nearby shadows darken and shift.

Special Attacks
Known to have an attack that poisons.

Vicious Kiss
: A dingy umbral moth is abruptly before you, as though disdaining the intervening space. Undulating tendrils of darkness strike at you as the creature seeks to enfold you in an inky embrace.

Fail

You just manage to escape the questing, shadowy tendrils, though proximity to the creature's uncanny wings leaves you with the beginnings of a headache.

Success

Though you struggle to escape, the moth easily ensnares you, drawing you close in perverse mockery of affection. A shadowy, hand-like appendage grasps your head almost tenderly and you feel the moth's slick proboscis plunge past your lips in a vicious kiss. You gag as the coppery taste of your own blood fills your mouth, your tongue savaged in the creature's brutal quest for sustenance.

Terror blossoms within you, multiplying into vastness. The feeling grows and grows until there is nothing else. Just when you are certain your heart will burst in your chest your fear is simply...taken from you, leaving you feeling hollow and shaken.

The moth discards you as a child would an empty sweet wrapper, looking bigger and more malevolent.
Hunchbacked into a sickly "C" shape, the stunted creature's spine curves like the handle of a giant coffee mug. The deformed humanoid's leathery brown skin exhibits dozens of old scars from use on the playing field as merely a tool, an object at the disposal of much stronger and violent beings. Neither its bulging eyes or mangled facial features provide information about which sentient race it belonged to prior to its damnation. Vertebrae, grossly misshapen and misaligned, protrude from the figure's back, forever warped into place by cruel and unforgiving hands. Plastered with a crazed expression of morbid fear mixed with insatiable bloodlust, the togball foams at the mouth in anticipation of gaining revenge on those responsible for its current state, no matter how hopeless an endeavor that may be.

In Depth
Recall
You recall from "A History of TogBall" that the origin of the ball is rather gruesome. The first ball was actually a helpless piglet that the Gor'Togs of yore flung around from man to man, taking great pleasure in the activity. However, the concept of using an actual person was born when a group of 'Togs decided to use a particularly nasty S'Kra Mur overseer in their game by throwing him around by his tail. In modern times, convicted felons are often the main source of balls, though creatures such as goblins and faenrae reavers have been utilized as well.

Notes
Able to fully arrange with 118 rank in skinning

Weapons (Brawling) hard capped at 185

As of 19-Oct-2014, hunting with a Paladin in plate/brig/chain, with a large shield and lightly hindered, using AA, at 120 ranks in all defenses, these would create multiple bleeders after about 30 minutes. So I bumped the min ranks to start up to 130. Several clerics have reported being able to safely hunt these as early as 100 ranks. I suspect that the spell PFE is massively more effective than any other barrier spell, and is accounting for this 20-30 rank difference.

Added 25-Nov-2014, primary weapon at 167 and TM at 168. Cannot get them over 1/34.
NECKHOFFhttps://elanthipedia.play.net/index.php?title=Giant_thicket_viper_(1)&diff=385283Giant thicket viper (1)2014-11-25T19:46:06Z
NECKHOFF:

__NOTOC__

Description
Nearly as wide as a full grown human, it's also much longer and it often measures 15 feet in length. Fierce, deadly and the foe of all who meet it, it seems at times to express almost human qualities. Some legends suggest that the thicket viper was indeed among the races of our kind but were enchanted into the poisonous, hateful thing you now see.

In Depth
Special Attacks
Vipers can spit poison into eyes of their enemies. Eye armor only protects some of the time. Shields can block it, but parry has no effect. When you get poisoned by a viper, you get two poisons: nerve poison and stunning poison. The poison causes random stuns and internal nerve and eye damage. The poison also stacks - as you get hit with more poison the potency of the poison increases.

Area
The area that the vipers share with the Giant Black Leucros is heavily overgrown. With low perception and/or scouting ranks you will likely not go in the direction you intend when you move. This can make getting out of the area quite difficult.

Some other things to note:
* Occasionally drop gems ("I've gotten large gold nuggets off them."- Zarrurvok) and other things from the 'misc' loot table.
* Moving around teaches minimal perception and scouting (if a ranger).
* Moving around drains your fatigue.
* Peering can cause roundtime as you climb a tree to look around.
* You can use a machete to HACK in a certain direction. This will make it easier to move in that direction.
* As perception and scouting increase you will be better able to move in your intended direction, until you are no longer hindered at all.

Loot
Giant thicket vipers occasionally drop a random assortment of odd items.
