Description
Bits of rotting flesh drop off this large rotting biped. The tattered remains of a once-colorful jersey hang from its torso, and flaps of leather hang from ancient boots on its massive feet. The whole horrid mess is covered in a thick layer of mud. A look of combined rage and puzzlement adorns what's left of its face. Perhaps dinner is late?

In Depth
Loot and Equipment
It is wearing the a, some i.<br>
It is carrying nothing!

Recall
Years ago, Boar Clan had a different togball field than the slick modern one used today. Unfortunately, it was placed on top of an ancient graveyard, whose spirits did not appreciate the use to which their final resting place as a playground. Details are shrouded in mystery, but the players became cursed to wander the field as undead. The field itself fell into swampy disrepair.

Skill Notes
NOTE!: Random Enraged tusky incursions will HURT. You almost need more defenses than Stompers train to be able to handle them effectively unless you're REALLY paying attention.
<br>
The main consequence of skillset placement is to determine how quickly you can learn skills. Skills within your guild's primary skill set are learned the fastest, while skills within the tertiary skillset are learned the slowest. Skillset placement can also give you access to certain "perks." Lastly, skillset placement is factored into each guild's circle requirements.<br>
<br>
For more details, see Skillsets.
Description
Composed of rock, the gargoyle is a statue come to life at the hand of an ambitious mage. Mostly irate at the world and grumbling to itself about anything from the state of the Elven nation to the weather, the gargoyle does not look so much inclined to fight as it is to curl up in a corner and look frightening. Still, it knows its task as a protector of its creator's domain, and will do its best to keep invaders from treading on its turf.
Description
The gremlin stands waist-high to a Human, though its perpetually hunched figure indicates it could possibly look one in the eye if it bothered to stand up straight. Black leathery reptilian skin covers its entire body, reflecting little light. Spindly legs would appear to be too thin to support its wide-shouldered frame, but its easy, predatory grace belies any implied clumsiness. A wide, triangular head with large pointed ears sits atop a short narrow neck, and it glares about with squinting yellow eyes.
i
The gremlin as depicted stands waist-high to a Human, though its hunched figure indicates that it might look one in the eye if it were to straighten. Black leathery reptilian skin covers its entire body, the pigment the artist has used reflecting little light. The creature's spindly legs seem too thin to support its wide-shouldered frame. A wide, triangular head with large pointed ears sits atop a short narrow neck, and it glares from the page with squinting yellow eyes. The author has noted in one corner that the creature has seen to cast magical flame at those it attacks.
In Depth
Max cap still seems to be correct in 3.1, evasion soft capped at 360 ranks exactly [12/29/2014].
Spells
Can cast casts spell::Fire Ball and casts spell::Fire Shard.<br />
A red-bristled gremlin begins jumping up and down. "You burn now! Buuuuuurrrrrrrrrrn!"<br />
A red-bristled gremlin's yellow eyes light up as it begins whispering, "Fire burn, fire burn," to itself repeatedly.

Equipment
Gremlins carry a variety of weapons and armor. Some of the items are bone, leather or cloth pieces of armor. Some carry shields. The weapons can include unarmed, hammers, cudgels, maces, scimitars, and vials of naphtha. The gremlins are known to steal weapons from each other, which can be pretty humorous to watch.

Area Information
The gremlins are past the guarded gateway in the Fallow Fields. This is a Premium-only area.
Special Attacks
Casts casts spell::Tingle.<br />
The sand sprite grabs a handful of sand and gestures at it, charging it with electrical energy!<br />
Giggling childishly the sand sprite throws the sparkling sand towards you!<br />
Note: This is easily resisted if you are fighting them at-circle.<br />

Training
Sand Sprites are excellent for learning combat skills and Locksmithing, making them a popular rung on the training ladder. In addition, they are found just two rooms away from a city (Ratha) and they have a phenomenal spawn rate.

Equipment/Loot
a i<br />
a w
*Boxes require a minimum of roughly 40 ranks of Locksmithing, with 65 being about "on level." Expect an average of 1,500 lirum per box, but rare jackpot boxes are possible. Example:<br />
<blockquote>
In the driftwood strongbox you see a large clear diamond, a huge yellow diamond, some copper coins, some bronze coins, a silver coin, some gold coins, some platinum coins, a huge russet sapphire, a huge lilac opal, a huge smoky clear star-stone, a huge moss-green emerald, and a huge yellow-green alexandrite. <br />
Total net worth was 5 plat in coin and 35 plat in gems.

RTOC
Scouting is a survival skill used to track creatures, players or to enter the Ranger Trail System. The scouting skill is available exclusively to Rangers.

Usage
Scouting is primarily trained via the SCOUT command.

<pre>
SCOUT SYNTAX:
-------------
scout area
scout cover my tracks
scout cover <player's> tracks
scout cover my trail <direction>
scout marker
scout read learn
scout read teach
scout trailmarker
scout awareness <player>
-------------</pre>

The Scouting skill will determine the difficulty of trailmarker you are able to read. As skill progresses more difficult trails will become available, the roundtime for scouting a trailmarker will decrease as well as transit time inside the trail system. The amount of people you can lead down a trail will also increase with skill.

Scouting may also be trained via the TRACK or HUNT commands.

Scouting awareness works on players, creatures you hunt, and on NPC's.

Training Strategy
Training scouting at low levels of skill is most easily done by mixing in HUNT with your normal hunting routine. In addition to training scouting very well, it also trains perception.

Once you have enough ranks to scout trailmarkers training becomes significantly easier. Simply find two linking trailmarkers and run between the two.

Training Scouting will teach a small amount of perception.

Scouting Milestones
Scout Awareness - 16 Scouting

Scout Area - 101 Scouting
: Scout area reveals non-cardinal exits in a wilderness room. It will also reveal cardinal exits in room where these exits are shrouded. Examples include a room with Rising Mists in effect and The Hand area.

Personal Trail Markers - 175 Scouting

Scout Cover my Trail - 200 Scouting

Sneak down trails - 225 Hiding + 225 Stalking

Notes
*In previous years the Scouting skill was teachable to non-Rangers, but this is no longer the case.
*Provides the only method for accessing the Ranger Caches.
*See also Ranger Trail System

The Rangers of Elanthia eschew the comforts and conveniences of civilization, making themselves at home in the wilderness. They stand guard over the provinces, holding back the hordes of terror that live on the flesh of the innocent. They most often stand alone, yet in the bleakest moments of battle no other sound can offer comfort like that of a whistling arrow fired from his bow.

For these silent hunters, no fame or fortune can match the pride they take in the mastery of their own abilities or their unity with nature.
Most the names of the great Rangers pass into time like a cool autumn breeze. One name that still floats upon the winds of time is Lirisa, known to most these days as the Patron Saint of Rangers, appointed by Kuniyo himself. Her deadly accuracy with the bow and her skills of survival are still the perfect model for those that set out to be Rangers.
Skillsets and Common Races
A Ranger's primary skillset is Survival. Weapon and Armor are secondary skillsets, with Magic and Lore as tertiaries.

According to the DragonRealms website, Rangers tend to be:

{|
Special Abilities
Bonus
The ranger bonus grants buffs to certain survival skills if the Ranger maintains his connections with nature. Those buffs can turn to serious debuffs if the bonus is bad.

Scouting
Rangers are adept at following trails, picking up on details that the untrained would never notice. Use TRACK <target> on a person or creature in the area with you to begin tracking, and TRACK alone to follow their trail afterwards.

Scouting is also useful for Ranger Trailmarkers.

Animal Companions
Rangers also have the ability to befriend and train certain animals, currently only wolves and raccoons. The exact procedure for this is not public knowledge, but you can probably find an elder Ranger to advise you.

Horse Wrangling
See post in horses.

Life Magic
Rangers have access to Life Mana and the Animal Abilities, Nature Manipulation, and Wilderness Survival spellbooks.

Magic is your character using his brain in a very studied and precise manner to manipulate an impersonal force that exists in the world. Except for the medium that Rangers work through (the natural world and life energies), there's no fundamental difference in the structure of a Ranger spell over what the guys that wear dresses are doing.

The things that makes Ranger magic unique (and all other guilds' magic unique in their places) are the medium they work through, and their confound. The Ranger confound is that they have a supernatural connection to the natural world that "is real" and can impact the outcome of spells despite whatever the Ranger intends. A spell that totally relies on this (a Ranger signature spell) would look to outsiders as normal but entirely nonsensical; a spell pattern that does nothing, because it interacts with a force that they cannot perceive or comprehend. ===Beseeches===
Rangers can use their soul pool to perform certain abilities called Beseeches.

The first and foremost thing to understand about beseeches is that they are not magical. As Armifer stated, the Ranger has a form of supernatural tie or perhaps hyperawareness to the natural state of the world around him or her.

Through a very methodical and highly researched ritual, the Ranger can attempt to reach out to what we might consider personifications or 'spirits' of the various natural forces.

This differs from how magic works in several fundamental ways. The most important of these is that a beseech simply can't do anything with what isn't there. One cannot create 'something' from 'nothing' with a beseech, one amplifies or coaxes. For example, if you were in a place with no wind/air motion ever, then beseeching the wind simply wouldn't work because there's nothing there to beseech. Likewise, you could not beseech then sun when it's on the opposite side of Elanthia.

Whether these spirits or 'forces' of nature respond is up to their personal whimsy. If they don't think the Ranger has proven his or her worth, they won't show up. If you ask for them too often, they'll spurn you. If you try to beseech for something random, you might not like the results. GM Zeyurn on Ranger Beseeches.

Bonus Stance Points
Rangers gain an additional stance point to allocate to their defenses every 60 ranks of defense.

Recall
Rangers may use RECALL HERB <HERB|WOUND>. This will give some basic information about various herbs in Elanthia.

Dual Load
With sufficient skill in a stick bow and the Hands of Lirisa spell active, Rangers can fire two arrows in the same shot.

Snipe
Rangers gain the ability to Snipe after 40th circle. Sniping is the ability to fire a stick bow or crossbow from hiding and remain in hiding after the shot.

Slip
From GM Zeyurn:
Level 30 - Ability to Slip personal objects to/from personal containers.
Level 40 - Ability to Slip worn items on and off.
Level 50 - Ability to Slip into hiding and stalk a target at same time.
Level 60 - Ability to Slip into hiding and sneak a direction at same time.
Level 90 - Ability to Slip items from the ground to one's possession.
Note: The intended function is to perform similarly to picking up items in invisibility, it has to be restricted to avoid abuse. Dropping your own items of course will be less restricted.

To learn SLIP, you must be taught by somebody who already knows SLIP (<tt>SLIP TEACH <target></tt>, need 100 teaching skill). This will initially be only Thieves as the Thief GLs will teach them, but once a Ranger learns it they will be able to spread the knowledge to other Rangers.

Success at Slip involves the stealing and stalking skills.
