Description
Looking like nothing so much as a ill-bred cross between a bat and some sort of diminutive lizard-man, the S'lai are a vicious breed of nocturnal cave-dwellers. The Scout's furry, reptilian head sits atop a dark, scaly torso which in turn is covered with a slight coat of dark hair. Two stubby legs, lizard-like in appearance, end in a pair of wide feet, each equipped with four long, bony toes. Its arms are more humanoid-looking, covered in a dense layer of dark fur from its shoulders down to its monkey-like paws. Perhaps the oddest aspect of this S'lai's appearance is its vestigal pair of webbed, bat-like wings which protrude from its shoulders.
__NOTOC__
Description
The endrus serpent is a leafy amalgam of woody detritus held together by snarls of vines and creepers. Despite its motley composition, the lithe serpent moves with reptilian grace invisible against the surrounding vegetation. Superficially resembling a large snake, this construct is the length of a tall Elf. The creature is constantly changing and reforming, but it tends to have a sinuous, serpentine body. Its maw is crowded with jagged teeth, and its eyes glow with eerie incandescence.

In Depth
These constructs are found down a serpentine path off the Southern Trade Route as it passess through the Endrus forest. They require around 70 ranks to hunt safely and swarm slightly.

53rd circle empath with IC up, light armor at 69, shield and parry at 64, weapons 58-60, Missile Mastery 70, Melee Mastery 74, Agility = 28, Reflex = 27 trains all combat skills except Stealth (at 67 lessons) just fine.

Recall Knowledge
Level 1: It's a construct, it's made of forest-stuff, and it doesn't seem to like you very much.
Level 2: You recall that the origin of these verdant forest constructs is still shrouded in mystery. Some travelers claim that they are sentinels guarding a hidden fortress, ensuring with deadly single-mindedness that none survive to disturb whoever resides there. Others say that the serpents have been animated by the fell will of the trees and woods, guaranteeing that those who might attempt to bring the axes, fires and saws of 'civilization' can never succeed. Still others believe that the serpents were created as companions for some long-dead mage or wizard.
They are not known to cast any recognized spells.
They are not known to carry loot in locked boxes.
Death Messages
An Endrus serpent jackknifes a few times, then grows still, its body rapidly settling until it is little more than a pile of wood and vine.

Free Accounts
While Endrus serpents are great for skill training, Free accounts characters' reduced treasure value generation results in a drop below the minimum threshhold for a gem so it can’t generate a gem. Since Endrus serpents only awards gems, they don’t generate treasure in this case.
__NOTOC__

Description
Nearly as wide as a full grown human, it's also much longer and it often measures 15 feet in length. Fierce, deadly and the foe of all who meet it, it seems at times to express almost human qualities. Some legends suggest that the thicket viper was indeed among the races of our kind but were enchanted into the poisonous, hateful thing you now see.

In Depth
Special Attacks
Vipers can spit poison into eyes of their enemies. Eye armor only protects some of the time. Shields can block it, but parry has no effect. When you get poisoned by a viper, you get two poisons: nerve poison and stunning poison. The poison causes random stuns and internal nerve and eye damage. The poison also stacks - as you get hit with more poison the potency of the poison increases.

Optimal range in 3.1 appears to be 100-155.

Area
The area that the vipers share with the Giant Black Leucros is heavily overgrown. With low perception and/or scouting ranks you will likely not go in the direction you intend when you move. This can make getting out of the area quite difficult.

Some other things to note:
* Occasionally drop gems ("I've gotten large gold nuggets off them."- Zarrurvok) and other things from the 'misc' loot table.
* Moving around teaches minimal perception and scouting (if a ranger).
* Moving around drains your fatigue.
* Peering can cause roundtime as you climb a tree to look around.
* You can use a machete to HACK in a certain direction. This will make it easier to move in that direction.
* As perception and scouting increase you will be better able to move in your intended direction, until you are no longer hindered at all.

Hunting Information
Consistent encounters resulting in near-death/death with 140 evasion 137 shield and 122 parry.

Evasion 145 / Shield 125 / Parry 120 / Weapons 130 - These are no problem. With a full room of 4 I use a couple defensive spells just to be sure, but careful hunting at these skills is very doable. I started hunting these are 120 Evas / 100 Parry/Shield, that was FAR more dangerous, but was doable with spells if I was careful.--TRIMACK (talk) 22:05, 5 July 2016 (CDT)

The giant thicket vipers in riverhaven teach tactics until a hard cap of 207.

Evasion hardcapped at 167. 10/10/2018

Loot
Giant thicket vipers occasionally drop a random assortment of odd items.

* i
* i
*a i
