RTOC
These are the raw materials from which crafted items are constructed. As more systems are released, this section will be expanded.

Alchemy materials
Catalysts used in Alchemy can be metal, plant, bone, or even creature parts. Catalysts must be pure, player-made alloys will not work. It may also be useful to have on hand this list of Healing herbs, which will also be used in creating the specific remedy you want.

Catalyst Properties
Metal and plant catalysts have the following properties which help determine the final product:
* Workability - The difficulty of crafting the item. Lower workability catalysts require more skill to masterfully craft than higher workability catalysts.
* Potency - Magnitude of the healing. Potency drops every time the remedy pulses and is reduced when healing multiple wounded areas.
* Efficacy - The duration for which the remedy remains in effect.
* Solubility - The amount of time in between pulses. High solubility results in shorter time between pulses.
* Toxicity - The extent to which using a remedy increases your systemic toxicity. This will build and eventually cause penalties.

For additional notes about potency, efficacy, solubility, and toxicity see catalyst properties.
Forging materials
Metals are the primary materials used in the Forging disciplines of Armorsmithing, Blacksmithing, and Weaponsmithing, but is also used in Tinkering mechanisms. Metals are found in fragment, lump, nugget, shard, and tear forms by mining or in bar, ingot, and fist forms from random creature drops, quest rewards, task rewards, and other sources.

The crafting quality of an ingot is its purity (99 quality being masterfully-crafted). The quality of a metal ingot can be reduced through mistakes in the smelting process or increased by refining.

As of DR 3.0, all metal loot drops are now fully craftable. Once a metal drop has been smelted into an ingot, it can no longer be sold to a gem appraiser.

Alloys are not mined directly. They can be obtained from loot drops in small quantities, or produced in a crucible from their component metals. In most cases, these do NOT have to be made using pure source materials (a tin-alloy ingot and a copper ingot will still mix to bronze and what ever else was in the tin-alloy ingot). You can read more about metal alloys on the Forging guide.

Metal properties
Metals have the following properties which are used by templates to make crafted items:

*Hardness affects the damage of weapons and the speed of some tools.
*Durability affects the construction of the crafted item.
*Workability modifies the difficulty of crafting the item. Lower workability metals require more skill to masterfully craft than higher workability metals.
*Electrical resistance affects the electrical protection/absorption of metal armor.
*Thermal resistance affects the fire and cold protection/absorption of metal armor as well as the speed of some tools (e.g. tongs).
*Physical resistance affects the protection of metal armor as well as the speed of some tools (e.g. pliers).
*Ductility affects the balance and power of crossbows when used to create the gear components of their mechanisms. Mechanisms created from high ductility metals will bonus the crossbow's balance. Mechanisms created from low ductility metals will greatly penalize balance, but provide a small boost to power.
*Density affects the weight of the crafted product, the absorption of metal armors, and the speed of some tools.
*Enchant Capacity acts as a cap for Sigil Precision, which effectively becomes the "Hardness" stat for enchantments. Every Enchantment will make use of the Precision stat in a different way.
|-
|Boulder||5

* Stone volume is additive. As an example, if you have a boulder (5 volume) and make it into a stirring rod (requires a 4 volume "large rock") you will be left with a pebble (1 volume).
* Actual density of stone is (boulder weight / 6400). Each item has 2 volume values technically. Amount of stone needed to make the item, ie:pebble, stone, small rock, large rock, boulder. Volume of item which is used to determine weight of final product.
Wood Properties
Wood is used in both Shaping and Tinkering, and woods have the following properties which help determine the final product:

* Durability - affects the construction of the crafted item.
* Workability - the difficulty of crafting with the wood. Lower workability woods require more skill to masterfully craft than higher workability woods.
* Hardness - affects the damage of melee weapons and the speed of some tools.
* Stiffness - determines the balance and suitability of melee weapons; stiffer wood has less balance but more suitability.
* Physical Resistance - has no known effects
* <bow> Affinity - affects the damage of the specific bow type -- the "Hardness" stat for ranged weapons.
* Capacity - acts as a cap for Sigil Precision, which effectively becomes the "Hardness" stat for enchantments. Every Enchantment will make use of the Precision stat in a different way.
* Density - Weight (in stones) for one part of lumber; weight of a finished product is density times the number of parts required.
The primary materials for Outfitting are cloth and leathers. Cloth is woven from thread that is spun from fibers. Currently fibers are purchased or obtained from quests and other sources. Leather is obtained through the skinning, scraping, and curing of hides of animals.

Currently a Festival-only system, the Artistry Dye system is likely to fall under the Artistry Discipline, possibly with some crossover from one of the Alchemy Disciplines. You can use these dyes with any item that is currently made with the "new" crafting systems.
Alchemy of course. While i do some bone carving for Some Engineering fun, ive been doing alchemy for years. When i noticed that ive only ever heard of one person who sold remedies and it was in passing so i thought i would give it a try, Something for the people to have and rely on in a pinch. After several months of prep, sales, and free samples i finally got a good customer base and a great deal of support. Now im out to help younger alchemists reach where i am at.

RTOC
Crafting is the catch-all term for a series of new creation systems that are being introduced into DragonRealms as part of the Mechanical Lore split. There will be five new crafting-specific Lore skills, each of which will control three creation disciplines.

The craft command can be used to display a range of information related to crafting, both general and specific to your character.

General Notes
Not all the disciplines have been released. Currently, the following are available:
* Alchemy
**Remedies
* Engineering
**Carving
**Shaping
**Tinkering
* Forging
**Armorsmithing
**Blacksmithing
**Weaponsmithing
* Outfitting
**Tailoring
* Enchanting
**Artificing

Additional notes:
*Currently, only stage 1 of furniture making is released, which is limited to tables.
*Impossible to identify who crafted an item that hasn't been marked with a maker's mark.

Guides
The crafting skills all work on the same fundamental concepts, though each have their own quirks and mechanics. The following crafting player guides are available:
* Artificing - Enchanting Guide
* Carving - Guide to Stonecarving
* Carving - The No-Nonsense Guide to Carving
* Forging - Forging guide
* Remedies - Remedies Player Guide
* Shaping - Shaping guide
* Tailoring - Tailoring player guide
* Tinkering - Tinkering guide

Bugs
A list of crafting bugs is being maintained on the Crafting feedback page, to assist GM Kodius in tracking them.

As with all DR bugs, the first thing to do is assist or use bug in-game, and/or post on the appropriate DR message board. After doing that, please use the Crafting feedback page to record the bug.

Materials
:For a detailed list of crafting materials and their properties, see here
* There are mining locations near Stone Clan, Dirge, Riverhaven, Therenborough, Shard, north of Raven's Point in Forfedhdar, Ain Ghazal, and Fang Cove.
* There are logging locations near Riverhaven, Ker'Leor, Dragon's Spine, Mistwood Forest, Wyvern Forest and the Darkling Wood.
*See Crafting Tools for an in depth discussion of them.

Product Quality
The final quality of an item is determined by difficulty modified by workability, with bonuses from having career/hobby, using high quality material, using high quality tools, and knowing the appropriate tech.
*Weapons receive a bonus to durability from being masterfully-crafted.
Careers/Hobbies
Players can specialize in a discipline by choosing careers and hobbies. To choose a career or hobby, go to the appropriate crafting society, and ASK <master> ABOUT CHOOSING CAREER/HOBBY <discipline>.

<big>*** NOTE: Careers and hobbies are a PERMANENT choice and cannot be changed! *** </big><br>
A career or a hobby is NOT required to be successful at crafting. You can train any of the skills just fine without choosing a career or hobby. It is highly recommended to try out the various crafts to see if it is something you would enjoy specializing in before choosing a career or hobby.

When you choose a Career, you will automatically receive a number of technique slots equal to the number you have already gained from skill up to 12. From then on, each technique slot you earn from skill will grant you one extra technique slot up to 12. You also get a small bonus to creating items in that discipline.

When you choose a Hobby, you will receive technique slots in the same manner as if you had chosen a career except that it caps at 6 slots. You also get a tiny bonus to creating items in that discipline.

Career and Hobby Slots:
*Lore Primaries get 2 careers and 1 hobby
*Lore Secondaries get 1 career and 2 hobbies
*Lore Tertiaries get 1 career and 1 hobby.

At any time, you can check what careers & hobbies you have chosen, how many techniques you have available, etc. with the CRAFT command.

NOTE: You can never rechoose a hobby or career, but can forget a technique by talking to a crafting instructor. It currently costs <s>10</s> <s>25</s> 50 platinum lirums, but is temporary while the system is getting set up - eventually it will be on some sort of timer like forgetting spells.

Techniques
With rare exception (like stamps), and unless specifically stated, techniques are not required to perform a task, but instead give a skill bonus to it. However, enhancements (tempering, reinforcing, lightening, ect.) require techniques to perform.
Technique Slots
*Up to 13 general technique slots per crafting skill are earned based on skill. These can be spent on any discipline within their respective skill.
*Careers and hobbies provide up to 12 and 6 bonus technique slots respectively and are also earned based on skill. These can only be spent within their specific discipline.
*Guilds provide 3 bonus technique slots, up to 3 within a single discipline depending on your guild, and are also earned based on skill. These too can only be spent within their specific disciplines.

Instruction Understanding
Your understanding of the instructions shows how well you are capable of crafting an item based on your skill, technique, and career/hobby bonuses.

Barring poor tool condition and crafting errors, once you "completely understand all facets of design" you should be able to create masterfully-crafted items using 70 quality / 50 workability materials and well-crafted (store bought) tools.

When you can "comprehend all but several minor details" you can generally create masterfully-crafted items using 99 quality / 50 workability materials and masterfully-crafted tools.

Below is a listing of potential messages when you study an instruction book:

* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and completely understand all facets of the design.
* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and comprehend all but several minor details in the text.
* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and confidently discern most of the design's minutiae.
* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and interpret many of the design's finer points.
* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and absorb a handful of the design's finer points.
* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and fail to grasp all but the simplest diagrams on the page.
* You <scan/review/peruse> the X instructions <with a glance> and quickly realize the design is far beyond your abilities.
Apperance:

You are Shadow Alchemist Magavyn, Engineering Genius of Elanthia
You have an oval face, cat-slitted violet eyes and a narrow nose. Your brown mane is long and thick, and is worn braided. You have blue-grey fur with a white belly and white marbling, a curving tail and an athletic build.
You are slightly under average height for a Prydaen.
You are a wind-catcher.

Favorite craft:

Alchemy of course. While i do some bone carving for Some Engineering fun, ive been doing alchemy for years. When i noticed that ive only ever heard of one person who sold remedies and it was in passing so i thought i would give it a try, Something for the people to have and rely on in a pinch. After several months of prep, sales, and free samples i finally got a good customer base and a great deal of support. Now im out to help younger alchemists reach where i am at. So if you ever see me around and want to get in the best craft in the world, give me a shoulder tap.
