Lasika's Journal

------

Character History:
Lasika's birth name was Milla. She comes from a very small village, perhaps a plantation, northwest of Siksraja in Therengia. Lots of Prydaen and Rakash living in a big communal home, most of them from the same area of the West, where the Rakash had a unique accent. Learning common and most of her Prydaenese from the Rakash, while her own family was too messed up from the migration to teach her, she adopted their accents.

She joined a ragtag group of necro-hunters as a teenager, mainly Prydaen and Rakash from her village and nearby. They were not very effective. Unlike the Inquisition, they stalked and prosecuted many innocents. Many adventures were had. Lasika got very, very good at flirting, breaking into places, and sniping with a bow. She earned the nickname "Milla the Undying" because she somehow never got killed during these adventures. Hurrah for favors! All her friends who died came back to tease her about it. She eventually screwed up and got them all arrested by not being attentive enough on guard duty (she was distracted by a hallucination.)

They were sent to prison for some amount of time, and finally released when it was found out the Therengian noble's son they were accusing of necromancy actually did dabble, and they were told to keep hush about the whole snafu. Lasika and her prison wife (they never bonded, except over their shared experiences before and during imprisonment) were sent to live in Riverhaven where they worked for the Trader's guild.

Lasika's schizophrenia blossomed and she decided their old necro-hunting group had become thralls and were hunting them down. She freaked her wife out, and so her wife tried to get her help by committing her to Be'ort's Home for the Temporarily Demented. Lasika is still somewhat convinced she was kidnapped by necromancers and tortured during this phase. She lost her eye, but that was because she was throwing herself around and pushed her own face into the corner of a table (they use round tables now.) She maintains a very strong dislike of dogs and a fear of bigger dogs to this day. After her release, she became alcoholic and abusive, and her wife eventually ran off to an inn for a few days to get away from her. Lasika decided that her wife had ran away entirely, and so, according to their Run Away And Change Our Names Pact, she changed her name, hired an empath to shift her appearance (stripes!) and snuck across the border to Zoluren.

She joined the Thieves guild by being just nosy enough, and despite her stay at the mental hospital and subsequent alcoholism ridding her of her skills, decided the guild it was her best bet to get enough contacts and information to find the new identity her wife would have taken on, if her wife hadn't simply been at home the entire time. For a few years she searched, finding only Sorenko, a young Rakash man who had been with her necro-hunting group when he was a teenager. She unofficially adopted him as a younger brother, and, believing his older brother to have been involved with her kidnapping and torture, told Sorenko his brother had most likely died.

Lasika then had another mental breakdown and became convinced that the Merelew people were taking over Zoluren by using dust-mote faeries to weaken people's souls so that necromancers could control them in order to anger the gods, specifically Drogor (whose storms would make Zoluren a wet place for Merelew to live) and Dergati, who has a reputation for also stealing souls. Soulless husks would eventually have their insides eaten by a Merelew person, who would wear the skin and take on the life and personality of the deceased. Friends who tried to dissuade her of this idea had obviously already succumbed to the take-over and could no longer be trusted.

Believing herself to be the only non-Merelew left, she arranged passage back to Riverhaven to... do something. In doing so she found out her wife was still living in their cottage by the lake shore, and then realised her madness had gone far enough, and decided to re-commit herself to Be'ort's Home for the Temporarily Demented. At some point she also decided her real wife was being held captive there, and schemed to get her out. She was released far, far too early by the Be'ort-touched empath in charge of her, after he performed some hackneyed brain surgery, and (seeing as her wife had found another mate) returned to Zoluren believing she was sane, with a certificate saying so.

She's not.

------

Assorted Points of Interest
Lasika likes digging holes in the woods to hide things in when she gets worried about someone stealing them from her. She spends a lot of time digging tunnels that go nowhere, or simply making nice basements beneath shacks, much to the owner's surprise. She dabbles in explosive chemicals now and then, but really has no alchemical experience whatsoever. She writes lyrics to songs other people compose, and used to be rather good at performing, prior to her latest visit to Be'ort's Home. She likes fancy, frilly pink clothes, but always returns to her beloved turtleneck sweater and beret. According to Xinge, her favorite pastime is punching Xinge.

Although extremely paranoid about the concept of marriage and the soul-bonding the Easter races meddle with, she has a huge crush on Almiwey Dozypaws, and often wishes she had gotten to Almiwey first. Their inability to bond has not stopped them from being huggy and kissy and tail-rubby in front of strangers. Lasika resents the idea that Prydaens are all faithless floozies just because she loves someone who is married, who happens to love her back.

Lasika temporarily lives in Sunfall Hub, with a bell on her shack. Ringing it will freak her out. Don't.

She has hosted a number of Prydaen gatherings at the food tree west of Crossing, after convincing Hub elders to tear down the wards preventing gweths from working within the tree house.

As of 29/08/2019, her daughter is about 6 and a half years old.
It has been 431 years, 377 days since the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer.
It is the 10th month of Nissa the Maiden in the year of the Iron Toad.

------

So You Want To RP With Me?
What's with the accent?

Because its fun and keeps me on my toes!

Why don't you reply to my gweths/thoughts?

Because I'm asleep! As a F2P character, I have to wait like, eight hours to drain my combat skills. Of course I'm going to stay logged in while that happens. If I ignore you at other times its either because too much time passed and I'd feel weird answering a thought from ten hours ago or I simply missed it because I'm not great at staying focused or maybe I'm sulking and really not up to interacting at the moment.

Can I interject myself into your history with that ragtag group of necro hunters?

Sure! Maybe not her main gang, as we'd need to flesh out years and years of close friendship-turned-betrayal, but there could have been other groups, passing people to each other as situations demanded it. Maybe Lasika was the Wedge to your Luke. I'm all for being the weird, inattentive bug-eyed girl in the background of someone's moment of coolness.

How do you feel about OOC stuff?

Just don't over-do it! I am shy and private, I'd rather talk as my character until I get very, very comfortable with you. But if you need to say something, don't be afraid, I'm not going to snap that its breaking my immersion. Give me a song link once in a while, that's fine (not too many!) If you need to pull me into a private room to have a full-fledged OOC talk before some big RP scene, that's where I'd be my most comfortable. I will not be happy at all if you try to snark at someone else behind their back to me. I don't want to even know about OOC drama like that.

Unused Journal Entries

These entries are from the first draft, unused, and unwritten anywhere in-game. Simply for fun.

It is common knowledge Princess Arilana was born Merelew and through some means of sorcery, became an elf. Why elf, when she was to be wed to a human? History does not concern me greatly. This is simply the first notable step the Merelew have taken to controlling Elanthia. Many people are involved, many unknowingly, against their will. Some, such as the Sea Priestess Whiteburn, are vital and gleeful to be involved in this conspiracy. Even she doesn't know the extent.

Necromancers have discovered a way to turn people into thralls, mindless, autonomous. The faeries that live in the small things and whisper in the night. Specks of dust on glass, drifting in the air in sunlight. Breathing them invites them into your soul, where corruption spreads, weakening one's resolve to the taint. I am no empath, I cannot explain the delicate machinations of these creatures, I can only observe and warn of them. But no one will listen! Such fools...

I discovered shelter near the lighthouse. These markings in the stone remind me of runes the mages use. I believe they are a potent ward against the faeries, I see none here, and I feel safe. Putting similar runestones beneath my hat awards me the same feeling. I try to find more and give them to people. Some are beginning to listen. Some return at night and we plan in whispers. It goes much further than faeries and necromancers and merelew. I must research the Ocular.

A weakened thrall will make no effort to defend themselves against attack. The rains get heavier still. They are progressing faster than I can plan. The Merelew are using techniques learned from the Ocular to veil themselves as other races. The thralls are first to go missing. They return, but their shape is wrong. Their skin is too tight. They have too many fangs. Many shopkeepers and guardsmen are turned, the Crossing is not safe at all. I'm heading to Throne City.

Lucia warned me of this. Aleks- wouldn't listen. But now they all know it, and we've paid the price in years. Therengia's reaction to the altar is part of their plan. More storms, more flooding. Crops have failed, the villages are emptying, the cities growing. Fish will feed them, and what do the fish feed on, but faeries? And so it goes. Fur hasn't been dry in months. The lands will be taken by the ocean, into Drogor's domain. I can hear the Priestess cackling again.

The Herald woman is hiding something. Concerning herself only with proof. Open your eyes! Another shopkeeper turned. I don't go there anymore. She's not the same Chizili. Her water is more popular than ever, now. Their rattling breath is in every alley. No guild is safe, everyone is weakening, turning from the Gods, angering the Storm Lord further. Rain, rain, rain, until we drown, and then they'll rise from the ocean and take it from us, stinking fish men! Eu spare us.

A certain metal will reveal an Ocular. It is unknown to me what kind. I gathered as many metals as I could, but the forge is watched at all times. I cannot make the blade. They've grown stronger, since I found my first one. I cannot get their skin off anymore. The souls are gone, the meat inside is foul, and their strength is that of the undead, but living they are still. Are they? What will the Merelew do once the necromancers serve no further purpose? A silver lining?

The Empaths can't sense it, the Moon Mages can't predict it, and the Clerics are helping it happen. How horrible, these holy warriors fighting against their secret brethren. It ills me to say it. Are the gods siegery pieces as well in this? If anyone can stop it, they can. Stop the necromancers, stop the thralls, and the Merelew have no grasp. If people only listen, and pray. The storms would end, the waters recede, their souls be saved. Not everyone gets to return.

Sometimes I don't hear the whispers and it worries me. I feel relieved, but I miss their advice. I wouldn't have gotten so far without their help. If only I knew their names, to look for them. But their safety relies on us not knowing. If we get turned... There is the thought that they're Be'ort's dreams, but I cannot hold to that notion. No, I am better now, and this is not that. Maybe I will dig and see. If it comes back, I know what to do. I purchased a sturdy shovel.

::Sufficiently deep water of an inch or more contains small pebble-like eggs, or "Faerie pods", which will hatch every third andu on the hottest day, regardless of season. These hatch into faerielings and drift aimlessly until attracted by a living organism, whereupon they feed on the flesh of the nose, mouth, and ears, mainly. They lay small white cocoons inside the body which leech off the spirit, making their victims susceptible to necromantic influence.

(this page originally coded)
::Necromantic influence displays as acute listlessness or, opposite this, intense focus on a task. Performing repetitive actions without any outward indicator of consciousness is the main symptom. These traits strengthen in the victim when placed near other afflicted organisms. The only cure is complete body relocation through Holy means, after the body is blessed by a cleric, which is to say, sacrifice.

(this page originally coded)
::Infected organisms that are not in this stage will show signs of softened resolve regarding the necromantic scourge throughout Elanthia. Indifference and outright acceptance are also warning signs. All bodily fluids expelled from infected organisms carry pod spores, which can be seen as drifting motes in sunlight, and will seek out standing water to resume the cycle.

(this page originally coded)
::I discovered, almost by accident, a warding sigil carved upon some stones near the lighthouse on the Cape of Storms. This area is entirely free of Faerielings. The markings resemble those found upon the smaller runestones found upon many a guild's donation shelves. I have found it is enough to keep one under my hat to keep me protected about town. Not all runestones are the same, for some of the sigils do not ward them at all.

(this page originally coded)
::These Faerie pods were created by alchemists working for Baron Gyfford and Princess Arilana. Their research study is located somewhere in Throne City - I suspect the museum, personally. It is common knowledge Arilana is descended of Merelew blood, was BORN a Merelew, and transfigured into an elf in order to live a longer life to oversee their plans to fruition. If the stories of love are true, she would have chosen to become human, as the Prince was.

(this page originally coded)
::In making the populace indifferent to necromancy, they are directly influencing the gods' anger toward their provinces, most notably the god Drogor, Lord of Storms. By keeping the lands wet with this rain, the spawning ground for their Faerie pods are increasing in range. Infected organisms have been discovered as far north as Muspar'i and as far south as Corik's wall.

(this page originally coded)
::The Sea Priestess Whiteburn is, as far as I am aware, not involved with this plan. She has performed ritual sacrifice for me on occasion, and is free herself of the Faerie taint. However, she encourages the storms, and that is the insidiousness of the plan - that even the most devoted of clerics furthers the transformations. The shopkeeper Chizili turned this very day. Her water is practically free to freshly converted Merelew.

(this page originally coded)
::Once an infected organism is stripped of its soul, the body becomes a husk. The meat is easily removed and the skin becomes stretched and moist. Merelew come ashore in dozens every day to seek out these husks to wear, feeding themselves freely of the meat within. Gorging themselves to the point of bursting, they began to spew body parts and other meals, which attracted great attention. This attention was quickly divided by the "timely" appearance of the Spider.

(this page originally coded)
::Prior to this point, the Merelew had been taking lessons from the Ocular in how to disguise themselves, (though a constant want for water will always be a blazing clue to the wary.) I was informed by a Kaldar, some time ago, that there exists a metal necessary to reveal an Ocular's true form, and so I began to mine one of every metal myself. I was unable to succeed in this task.

(this page originally coded)
::In the woods south of Arthe Dale, I found a small cavern beneath an outcropping of rocks. Digging soon revealed a further tunnel aglow with gems. I explored as deep as I was able by their light, but further in it was too dark to continue, at which point a massive scaled creature savaged me from behind. It was no Merelew. I was able to escape and tend my wounds, and when I returned the following andu, the gems were gone.

(this page originally coded)
::With a lantern this time, I carefully followed the tunnel deeper, keeping track of its turns - heading south. By my senses, I had traveled for a day and a half before turning back - a three day journey in total. I brought more oil and more food and continued. On the third day I came across a Prydaen man, of black and orange mottled fur. I was unable to discern his level of infection, and he gave me directions to a ladder, which brought me beneath the Moon Mage guild.

(this page originally coded)
::Returning to the outcropping later revealed there was no tunnel, the digging I had done had been grown over by wildflowers.(1) There seems to be a connection between gems and the Merelew. Perhaps it was the coming of the Spider that alerted them to a way to further control the populace. Who does not love shiny things? The gems harvested are surely in circulation now, no doubt imbued with magics to distract the otherwise observant to the transfigurations occurring.

Lasika's entries written in charcoal.

(this page originally coded)

(this page originally coded)
::With what metals I was able to find, I crafted myself a dome helmet. I fear they are closing in on me. Though this helmet is unable to protect my projected thoughts (which I know they are always listening to), it is at least able to reflect the light necessary for a moon mage's psychic eye to glance down upon me. Unless the moons are at an angle. Then it is useless.(2)

If it comes back, I know what to do. I purchased a sturdy shovel.

How difficult an item is to steal is based only on appraisal price and weight.

Update: Any item teaches until at least 30 ranks: (Testing indicates the easiest items teach to 38 ranks.)

If you add other provinces, use the monetary conversion factors to put the app price in lirums or dokoras into kronar. (lirums * 1.25 = kronars, dokoras * 1.385 = kronars) If you don't convert, please notate that by adding the currency so someone else can convert it.

Triviality rank is the minimum rank at which an item will no longer teach. This is based solely off of unbonused base stealing (exp thievery). I have added a few triviality ranks but these might not be the minimums. If you are able to verify a minimum triviality ranks (can steal and learn at X, at X+1 I get the trivial message) please add it.
Crossing Stealing List
The following list was made after the update to stealing that Javac did in 2016, and is mostly accurate after 50 ranks. Prior to 50 ranks, the thief doing the marking did not have enough appraisal skill to be accurate in most assessments.

Subjective tip: The best learning-to-risk ratio is with an item that is +2 in both columns. Steal 4 items per shop, 2 for Orielda's Blossoms (the third attempt will always catch you.) At 425 ranks, I only need to hit 8 shops per run to mindlock.

What is roleplaying?
Roleplaying (also known as RP) is acting out your fictional character's personality, motivations, and actions instead of those of you the player. It can be grand or small-scale, but the experience is very fun for many players!

This page is intended as a resource that DragonRealms players can use to help foster and build the RP community, and to house useful information both for brand new players and established players to feel more confident in how they can jump into RP in DR.

See Out of Character and OOC Euphemisms for behavior that may be considered objectionable among role-players.

How do I find others to roleplay with?
There are a number of popular gathering places throughout Elanthia where characters regularly socialize. Some are more permanent fixtures or more highly trafficked than others.

You can also talk to other characters ICly over long distances via:
* Gwethdesuans, known popularly as "gweths". Gweths can be purchased from other player characters in game.
* The Thoughtcast spell. This spell allows the caster to send a message directly to another and communicate with the target using SEND for one minute.
* The Distant Gaze spell allows Moon Mages to observe or relay messages to any room where they have a moonbeam.
* A Warrior Mage's familiar, which can relay messages from its master.
* Some other special items, such as gwererest shells and whisper charms (also called "bird charms").

Characters actively involved in roleplay
*Only add your own characters or the characters of players who have specifically asked to be added here.
*Please limit each character to a total of no more than 10 affiliations/interests. If you need to elaborate further, feel free to do so on your character's personal page.
*The Guild and Race columns do not necessarily mean that a character belongs to those groups, just that the character's RP often involves those groups (for example, anti-Necromancer).
*The Genie roleplayer highlights can be useful for identifying those willing to RP in game.

If I ignore you at other times its either because too much time passed and I'd feel weird answering a thought from ten hours ago or I simply missed it because I'm not great at staying focused or maybe I'm sulking and really not up to interacting at the moment.
Sure! Maybe Lasika was the Wedge to your Luke. I'm all for being the weird, inattentive bug-eyed girl in the background of someone's moment of coolness.
== Character History: ==
Lasika's birth name was Milla. She comes from a very small village, perhaps a plantation, northwest of Siksraga in Therengia.

She eventually screwed up and got them all arrested by not being attentive enough on guard duty.

They were sent to prison for some amount of time, and finally released when it was found out the Therengian noble's son they were accusing of necromancy actually did dabble, and they were told to keep hush about the whole snafu. Lasika and her prison wife were sent to live in Riverhaven where they worked for the Trader's guild.

She joined the Thieves guild by being just nosy enough and despite her stay at the mental hospital and subsequent alcoholism ridding her of her skills, decided the guild it was her best bet to get enough contacts and information to find the new identity her wife would have taken on, if her wife hadn't simply been at home the entire time. For a few years she searched, finding only Sorenko, a young Rakash man who had been with her necro-hunting group when he was a teenager. She unofficially adopted him as a younger brother, and believing his older brother to have been involved with her kidnapping and torture, told Sorenko his brother had most likely died.

Lasika then had another mental breakdown and become convinced that the Merelew people were taking over Zoluren by using dust-mote faeries to weaken people's souls so that necromancers would control them and anger the gods, specifically Drogor (whose storms would make Zoluren a wet place for Merelew to live) and Dergati, who has a reputation for also stealing souls.

She was released far, far too early by the Be'ort-touched empath in charge of her, after he performed some hackneyed brain surgery, and returned to Zoluren believing she was sane.
