Shop Hours
RTOCguild association is::Traders who have reached at least circle 30 are allowed to rent their own shops in the Shop Plazas of Crossing, Riverhaven and Shard. Circle/10; rounded down, is the number of hours you can have the shop open regardless if you're there or not. For example, 3 open hours at 30th, 15 hours at 150th, and higher, presumably 20 hours at 200th.

Renting a shop
There are a limited number of shops available at each Market Plaza. A good time to start looking for a shop to rent is the day that rent is due as there are usually one or two shops available due to the previous tenant being evicted. You can read the plaza board in the market plaza to see when when will be due next.

For starters, visit the clerk in the main office of the plaza where you are seeking a shop and ASK CLERK about RENT. They will inform you if you are ready for a shop, then you can find a vacant shop in the market and RENT it. Make sure your debt is cleared before you attempt to rent your shop.

Commands and help
After renting your shop, head into it (after OPEN <shop entrance name - entrance, door, arch, etc>), and take a while to familiarize yourself with the SHOP command and HELP.

SHOP
The SHOP verb is the way that you interact with the various settings of your shop. The following options are available:

* SHOP PRICE - Set the price for an item in your shop. Sometimes this doesnt work so try SELL my <item> for <price> on <surface>
* SHOP RESERVE - Reserve an item for a certain person to buy.
* SHOP CUSTOMER - Shows you what your customers would see if they used the SHOP verb.
* SHOP REMOVE - Removes an item from your table or a player from your shop
* SHOP BLACKLIST - You can ban a person from your shop permanently.
* SHOP SCHEDULE - Schedule times for your shop to be open when you're not there.
* SHOP TIMERS - Change the timers for shop-related things, like blacklisting.
* SHOP WIDTH - Modify the width of your ledger.
* SHOP NAME - Change the name of your shop.
* SHOP STATUS - Find out how your shop is doing.
* SHOP CATEGORIES - Update the categories of items that your shop sells..

You can enter these commands by themselves for more information about how to use them.

See the SHOP page for more detail.

HELP
See the HELP page for more detail.

Rent
Note: Keep in mind you are running a business. If you mismanage it for an extended period of time, expenses can quickly spiral out of control.

The base cost of rent per month is 30 plat per month. The base cost is increased by the number of surfaces that you have as follows:

# surfaces
7
24.75 plat
8
27.75 plat

After the total is calculated, the rent is scaled by location (Crossing is charged full price): Riverhaven: 50% Shard: 25%

This amount is then charged at the end of a pay period.

Pay periods are 80 Elanthian days, [or 20 RL days]. This is exactly two Elanthian months, and occurs at beginning of the first, third, fifth, seventh, and ninth months of every Elanthian year. When a pay period ends, several things happen:

:- Your expenses are charged to your store's bank account.
:- Your rent is also charged to your store's bank account.
:- Your earnings are added to your store's bank account.
:- Your expenses and earnings are reset in anticipation of the next pay period.

If your shop's balance of sales to rent is negative for too long, you may be evicted by the plaza owners. You may deposit any amount of money into your shop's bank account (while in back room) at any time, and may withdraw any positive amount of money in the bank account as well. When you perform a withdrawal, the money is transferred directly into your local bank by a secured courier - No need to worry about thieves! You can also WITHDRAW #### POCKET to keep the money on your person.

Protections against rollover issues are in place, and will prevent transactions (deposits and sales) that would push your shop's bank account into an overflow situation.

Your shop's currency is the same as its local province - Kronars for Zoluren, Lirums for Therengia, etc.

Eviction
When you get evicted, a Plaza official will approach you with a similar message:
:A Plaza official approaches you and says, "Your shop in <Town> has been in debt for too long, and your tenancy there has been forcibly ended. Your belongings will be stored in a Guild warehouse so that you can claim them later. Because of the tardiness of payment, you have been assessed a fee of <Price> <Currency>, plus an additional <Price> <Currency> in administrative fees. Good day, <Madam|Sir>." With that, the official takes his leave.

<b>Retrieving your Belongings</b>
*<b>Zoluren</b>
:Head over to the Administration Office at the Plaza entrance.
::ask clerk for goods

Surfaces
At 30th circle, you will be limited to a single surface on which to place your wares. As you gain circles, you will be able to place more surfaces on your sales floor:

You can PUSH a surface to have it moved between the sales floor and the backroom. To exchange or replace a surface, it must be in the backroom and empty of all items, then simply SELL SURFACE (table, rack, etc) and it will require you to repeat that to confirm. Once sold, a replacement can be purchased from a trader furniture shop, such as Clerk's Collections, Krobble's Karavan or the Furniture Warehouse in Crossing Market Plaza.<br />
Surfaces can be ADJUST in the back room to change the noun used to identify it.
Repairs
Your shop may incur damage over time which can be repaired. This damage is purely cosmetic and will not affect the functionality of your shop. Use the REPAIR command while inside your shop to check for, and repair any damage.

Repair costs are taken from your shop's balance. You do not need the coin on hand. The actual prices are random and may vary from the table below.
Who We Are
Sfek Vauns Arotru<br \>
Translation: "Strength Together"

During the time of the Great Migration, the Rakash people were uprooted from their homeland. As we scattered and resettled across the eastern provinces of Kermoria, most long-established packs were fractured and fragmented.
This devastation of our traditional social units left a ragged wound in the collective psyche of the eastern Rakash, for we are One, and the Pack is everything to us. In the east, packs have become smaller, and even the unthinkable happened: many of our kind have become isolated and alone.

Sfek Vauns Arotru is a pack based on choice rather than on blood. We are a loose collection of Rakash from all over Elanthia. We cherish friendship and fellowship, and we seek connection with our ancestral tradition, even as we forge our way in the modern world. We welcome the lost and the seeking. We invite communion with traditional packs whose numbers have dwindled since the days of Odcoru. If your spirit feels the pull toward solidarity, toward Oneness, we embrace you.

Pack History
The unofficially official Pack - or Dzirta - Sfek Vauns Arotru (meaning "Strength Together" in the Rakash tongue) began on a whim. Siendra (then Heira) was finding more and more of her kin, spread far and wide, expressing a lost connection with each other. But through these interactions she began feeling the opposite; she felt her roots more deeply, and the call to the Pack more poignantly than ever before. And so she started devising a way to begin to bring the Rakash together again. The invitation was extended broadly, to any who might be interested, and one by one they began to gather.

It grew enough that the first impromptu Moot was called, and the Rakash from all across the Realms congregated in Crossing's Town Green, pulling stories from the cobwebs of their minds while toasting with fratvarit. Then an even greater Moot was organized, and people of all races attended, and it was sworn that day that the Pack was family, and family could be from any walk of life. The feeling of belonging, of togetherness, was what tied everyone together. Taliciah had even revealed that she had taken the Pack name as her own surname, inviting all who felt this new connection to join her in doing so. And so the Pack became known and respected as Sfek Vauns Arotru. They strive to carry on the Moots and invite all to attend, to share their culture and traditions with any who wish to partake.

Pack Mission
Sfek Vauns Arotru is primarily considered a nomadic pack, due to its members being spread far and wide across the various provinces. It allows for the feeling of Oneness without tying the members down to any one territory. There are many who reside in Siskraja, who petition for their village's needs and will stand to defend it. Others hope to establish a new Rakash village in the south, nearer the snowy mountains that feel like home to them. But all come together in support no matter where or when. The Pack is about family and tradition, and Sfek Vauns Arotru will do everything they can to continue to uphold those values together.

Pack Token and Symbols
Pack Crest
Lovingly created for our Pack by Finnris, the official Sfek Vauns Arotru Pack Crest is below.

Pack Token
This token is worn by all the current members of the Dzirta Sfek Vauns Arotru.
*
Pack Colors
* Cobalt and Silver
Pack Charm
* an apple blossom
The apple has always meant a great deal to the Rakash people, having been a backbone of agricultural success and a staple of Rakash cuisine. During the Migration to the East, the Rakash carried apple seeds with them to establish in whatever new world they found themselves in. The blossoms of the apple trees, with their five perfect petals, resemble a multitude of stars when in bloom. Looking over an orchard at this time, a Rakash might be reminded of a clear sky, one watched over by the Great Pack and granting an unimpeded view of Katamba. The Dzirta Sfek Vauns Arotru has therefore adopted the apple blossom as a charm of sorts, to signify luck, prosperity, and hope.

Members and Friends
As stated above, while the Pack "proper" is composed of Rakash members, there is an acknowledgement in that anyone associated with its members and events are happily accepted as an extension of the Pack.
Rakash History and Traditions
Rakash, after the Migration, have had to adjust in some degree to a new way of life. However, the race is well-known for their oral traditions - which have helped to pass along what could have been a lost culture - and for their ability to adapt and change. Using the recollections that have survived their tumultuous history, a modern pack is able to honor their ancestors as well as create new traditions. Here is a small collection of writings and references that have helped Sfek Vauns Arotru build up the solid groundwork of their pack on which to build upon.

*
Pack Colors
* Cobalt and Silver
Pack Charm
* an apple blossom

RTOC
Empathic Shock is the temporary loss of guild abilities that Empaths suffer when they perform violent acts.

Shock Theory
Every sentient creature in Elanthia is born with innate empathy for the life forces of other living things. But for most, this sense is dulled and suppressed by a lifetime of the tiny (or not so tiny) harmful actions that are usually necessary for survival. Empaths, in contrast, strengthen and focus this natural sense into a highly refined sense, but to do so they must entirely avoid violence.

When a non-Empath does harm, the suppression of natural empathy means they experience no ill effects. When an Empath attempts harm, it clashes violently with their finely-honed sensitivity to the life forces around them and causes shock.

Contrary to popular belief, shock is not a punishment for breaching a moral code of pacifism. Rather, it is an automatic physiological reaction. Borrowing a player's analogy, Salvur made the following comparison:

<blockquote>If you dwelt in a cave for a year and a day, and then wandered out into the noonday sun, the bright light would hurt your eyes, and you would be temporarily blinded. This is much like Empathic shock, which is pain followed by a temporary insensitivity that is caused by over-stimulation of one's empathic senses.</blockquote>

There is no inherent moral component to shock, although many Empaths view shock as a highly personal issue and will only discuss it with their closest friends and family.

SimuCon 2003 Empath Guild Seminar: Why can an Empath not hunt, or not swing a sword without getting shock even if they don't actually hit anything? (Note: this is partially obsolete, as you must actually cause injury to experience empathic shock; intent is irrelevant.)

When people are born today, over many generations, people have been developing the skill that will be empathy. As that power/ability developed, the suppression of it also developed. Everyone is capable of becoming an Empath. Those who make the choice to be combat oriented learn to suppress empathy. Empathy and the suppression of empathy are reflexive mental actions. When someone joins the Empath guild, suppression is not developed much if at all, but the empathy instinct is primed. The skill for suppression is suppressed and empathy is enhanced when a person joins the guild. Empathic shock is something done to the self when the suppression is suddenly activated to the empathy part of the brain. It is the natural suppression reflex which has been suppressed kicking in and kicking hard.

Causes of Shock
Empathic shock is primarily caused by directly harming living beings. Examples of actions that cause shock:
*injuring another creature or adventurer with weapons or damaging magic (as opposed to an unsuccessful attempt)
*fishing
*healing a Necromancer with sufficient Divine Outrage

The only surefire way to avoid empathic shock is to never attempt a shock-causing action.

Shock will not happen when an Empath causes indirect harm, for example by hiring an assassin or firing a mangonel at a boat. Generally speaking, shock-causing actions require the Empath to be the primary, direct, and deliberate causative agent of harm. In the case of mangonels, the Empath is absolved since the direct target is an inanimate object (the boat) and not a living being. Finding a way to directly harm other characters without receiving shock is warnable as mechanics abuse, and shock may be applied retroactively by a GM.

Note: The creatures that spawn from the Ranger spell Awaken Forest are NOT constructs. Attacking them as an Empath WILL result in Empathic Shock.

Shock wears off with time as long as you are not "perma-shocked" or completely insensitive, but its duration can be considerable. Generally speaking, the more harm that was caused, the longer the length of shock. Merely punching or kicking someone will incur only perhaps an hour or two of shock, but it might take many days of being logged in for your empathy to recover from murder. Once you reach "perma-shock" or complete insensitivity, the quest must be performed to jump-start the recovery process. The details of the quest are an in-game secret, so try discreetly asking other Empaths.

Shock Levels
Empaths can use a cassava root to determine their shock levels by TOUCHing it.
:{|class="wikitable sortable"
Shock !! Message
n/a || You thumb your [item]. (Non-Empaths)
0 || Your [item]'s life force is brimming with unblemished vigor!
1 || Your [item]'s life force remains unblemished save for a single, tiny deadened speck.
2 || Your [item]'s life force remains largely robust, though several small deadened areas have formed.
3 || Your [item]'s life force is still mostly strong, though it shows more than the occasional deadened area.
4 || Your [item]'s life force displays interwoven strands connecting each of the deadened areas within.
5 || Your [item]'s life force is pulsing between vigor and numbness.
6 || Your [item]'s life force is waning, the strands connecting its deadened areas growing more numerous.
7 || Your [item]'s life force is significantly weakened, with large portions of it numbed and deadened completely.
8 || Your [item]'s life force is imperceptible.

Consequences of Shock
The first consequence of getting shock is a short stun. Empaths who have significantly deadened their Empathic sensitivity will have significantly shorter stuns than more sensitive Empaths. That is, the more shocked you are, the shorter your shock stun will be. Shock is granular, and as you accrue more shock, you will gradually weaken many of your abilities, and your effective skill with empathy may be penalized. For example, a partially shocked Empath will cast self-healing spells with less efficiency, and will not be able to perceive life as far as an unshocked Empath of equal skill. When you reach complete insensitivity ("perma-shock"), many of your abilities will not work at all or will only function at reduced power.
:The amount of shock an empath has will automatically drain as long as the Empath is both online and not currently permashocked/completely insensitive. If the Empath is completely insensitive the shock quest must be performed to start the recovery process. The quest can also be performed before being completely insensitive to reduce recovery time.

Lost Abilities
The following abilities and spells will not work for the Empath who is completely insensitive ("perma-shocked"):

Additionally, you will appear to be a non-Empath to Empaths who perceive health.

Reduced Abilities
For playability reasons, the following "bread-and-butter" healing spells will still work but at reduced power/efficiency:

Unaffected Abilities
These spells continue to work at full power while completely insensitive:

Requires Shock
Lastly, this spell cannot be learned or cast without a minimum amount of shock:
*Icutu Zaharenela

Sharing Shock
At 10th circle, other Empaths can TAKE a portion of the shock to reduce the amount of time you are affected by it, but by doing so, they will become shocked themselves. Each time an Empath shares shock from a guildmate, he/she takes approximately half of the remaining shock, leaving half behind. Sharing shock from a guildmate does not cause stunning.

The most efficient way to reduce shock is by organizing a Shock Circle. Since shock is reduced by half each time it is shared, you can benefit from this geometric reduction by setting up several tiers of Empaths to repeatedly take the shock in a hierarchical tree-like progression. A properly organized circle can quickly reduce shock since it will be worked off by many Empaths simultaneously. Shock circles are not easy to set up, since ideally you need five or more Empaths who are all willing to sacrifice their skills for several anlaen in order to help.

Empathic shock scars the Empath who first experienced it. Although the scar is permanent and perceptible (to other Empaths who touch you), there is no lingering mechanical effect once the shock wears off. You cannot get a scar by sharing shock from another Empath.

Shock Quest
Empaths also have the ability now to complete a lengthy quest to help reduce the time it takes to manage shock. A trip to the Adder's Coil in Forfedhdar will start the shocked Empath on the road to restoring their empathic senses.
