:For information about Song Scrolls, see here.

RTOC
Spell scrolls are items found in the treasure system or sold in magic stores such as the ones in Crossing, Ratha, and Aesry. They contain a spell that may be learned either permanently (study) or temporarily (invoke). Scrolls from the treasure system are found in varying states of disrepair, with more decrepit scrolls being harder to learn. One's arcana affects the success of being able to read the scroll and INVOKEing it. You generally need around 100 ranks in Arcana to be able to invoke a scroll, although boosts to Arcana can aid in invoking.

If the spell is not of your associated mana type, then casting the spell will contest your Sorcery along with the spell's contested skill (ie Debilitation, Targeted Magic, Augmentation, Utility, Warding).

IC Lore
The spells are stored as both written notation on the mental contortions necessary to shape it and as technical drawings of the spell pattern. In addition, the scrolls themselves are magical items that act to confer a measure of understanding that would otherwise be impossible through purely mundane script, which is why the scroll will become ash eventually.
Scroll Appearance
Illustrations of complex, three-dimensional shapes cover much of the parchment, which you immediately recognize as a spell pattern taken from different angles and cross-sections. Esoteric words are written in the margins and label the diagrams, but their meanings are not immediately obvious. or Familiar words are written in the margins and label the diagrams, immediately identifying this as a <your mana> pattern.

Use
Look/Read
A magic user can tell by looking at a scroll if it belongs to their mana type. Anyone can read a scroll's title and spell description if they have enough arcana.
Study
A magic user can permanently learn a spell by STUDYing it if the caster meets all of the below criteria:
* You have enough empty spell slots to learn the spell.
* The spell is analogous or comes from your guild.

While Teleologic Sorcery is not officially sanctioned by the Moon Mage Guild, Moon Mages are able to permanently learn Teleologic spells. The same goes for the other high sorceries: (antinomic, and hylomorphic).

Invoke
A magic user can temporarily learn a spell by using invoke if:
* You have an empty scroll slot.
* You have the Magic Theorist feat
A magic user can temporarily learn (Invoke) any non-signature spell from their own mana frequency (non-sorcerously) across guilds without the need for Magic Theorist. For example, a Paladin may invoke Cleric spells for the cost of a single spell slot without the feat.

Magicians can have one scroll invoked at a time. If they have the Improved Memory feat, they can invoke a second one.

Release (Forget)
Temporarily memorized spell scrolls can only be released (forgotten) by the use of release scroll <spell name>. Departing will also cause the scroll to be lost, but Resurrection with enough favors has a chance to preserve it.

Spells
The material that a scroll is made of will affect its difficulty. From hardest to easiest they are:

#hhr'lav'geluhh bark
#smudged parchment
#tattered papyrus
#wax tablet
#faded vellum
#moldering scroll
#tattered scroll
#yellowed scroll
#clay tablet
#papyrus roll
#fine scroll
#illuminated scroll
#ostracon
#seishaka leaf

Even though anyone can invoke any scroll, spells that are signature (representing something unique to a guild that no ordinary magician can do by themselves) can only be cast by a member of the appropriate guild.

stub
RTOC
Sigil harvesting is the process of collecting primary and secondary sigil scrolls for use in the Enchanting system.

Sigil harvesting is a room based system like the other harvesting mechanics. Unlike other systems however, each sigil "harvest" is associated with the character, not the room itself. This means that 2 (or more) people can scribe a scroll from the same room at the same time. The cooldown timer for that room is then tied to the character, and sigils can continue to be scribed by additional characters.

Each room will contain a primary and secondary sigil determined by its mana concentration, urban level and season. There is no innate randomness to the system, and PERCEIVE SIGIL DISTORT will allow you some control (particularly if you are a Ranger and don’t wish to go into town).

Unlike traditional materials, Sigils do not have a rarity. Instead, they have a clarity (quality) and precision (hardness) that determine how well an enchantment turns out. PERCEIVE SIGIL IMPROVE allows you to play a small minigame in hopes of improving a sigil’s stats prior to scribing it. Though for some this may prove too cumbersome, so you’ll still occasionally crit high quality/precise sigils just out of nowhere. And sigils allow you to scribe them multiple times to keep the grind down a bit. Finally, sigil books let you store and filter your sigils to keep inventory counts manageable.

Technique bonuses and the PERCEIVE SIGIL BONUS and DANGER commands are currently turned off to capture some base statistics, but will be turned on sometime after the wide release of the system.

Arcana, Outdoorsmanship & Scholarship are learned when perceiving for and scribing sigils. Each room has a short timer on it between sigil collection availability.

Tools
* burin - used for scribing a sigil onto a scroll or item
** While these can be crafted by Engineers they must be Enchanted before they can be used for harvesting.
* i - used to hold a sigil
* (optional) sigil book - used to hold sigil-scrolls and reduce item count

Basics
It is helpful to purchase an Artificing book and read the 1st page of the 1st chapter to familiarize yourself with the process.

Begin by doing a PERCEIVE SIGIL in the room you want to check. If the area has a possible sigil, you will receive a message that you are beginning your search. Once that roundtime is done, continue to PERCEIVE SIGIL until you receive a message of success for your primary sigil.

Once you have found your 1st sigil, hold a burin and a blank scroll, and SCRIBE SIGIL to collect it. Additionally, you can continue to PERCEIVE SIGIL until you see a 2nd success message for a secondary sigil and SCRIBE SIGIL to collect it.
* note: During testing, danger events have been turned off for collection, however on or after wide release, the secondary sigils will have an increased difficulty and danger factor.

After identifying a sigil, you can PERC SIGIL INFO to see the statistics on the sigil you've found. An example of this output is:
* You have perceived a flawless (96) permutation sigil comprised of broad strokes (8) in the area. You are unable to perceive any opportunities for improving the sigil.

After identifying either the primary or secondary sigil, you can PERCEIVE SIGIL IMPROVE to attempt to improve the quality of the sigil or scribe multiple copies of the sigil. If you SCRIBE or IMPROVE after the 1st sigil identification, you will not be able to PERCEIVE for a secondary sigil. You will receive a summary of the current sigil you have identified, an overview of your current mental health and a series of randomized commands you can use to improve the quality. An example of this output is:

<pre>
You have perceived a flawless (98) nurture sigil comprised of broad strokes (9) in the area.
Patiently, you continue to observe the environment to draw out more precise traits. Your perceptions reveal several interesting opportunities, including...

...a difficult, sanity destroying TECHNIQUE for recovering your focus
...a straightforward, sanity destroying PROCESS to elevate the sigil precision.
...a challenging, focus disrupting EFFORT for enhancing the sigil quality.
...a trivial, sanity destroying APPROACH to elevate the sigil quality.
...a challenging, resolve taxing METHOD for improving the sigil precision.
...a formidable, focus disrupting RITUAL for enhancing the sigil precision.
...a challenging, sanity destroying TASK for recovering your resolve.
...a means to DISTORT the sigil's foundation.

You also take the opportunity to take stock of your mental health.

Danger:  --------------------
Sanity:  ***************-----
Resolve: ***************-----
Focus:   ***************-----
</pre>

Once you have begun improving your sigil, you can complete as many commands as you'd like so long as you have enough Sanity, Resolve & Focus. You can PERCEIVE SIGIL IMPROVE repeatedly to refresh the possible list of commands and actions that will happen. Each command will increase the Danger level however, and on a failure, you can lose the sigil entirely with no option for scribing. Your mental health stats are localized to each sigil gathering event and will re-set each time you attempt to IMPROVE a new sigil.

PERCEIVE SIGIL DISTORT will allow you to change the type of sigil completely, and the new type.

Sigil Quality
Gathered sigils will have 2 material statistics, clarity (quality) and precision (hardness).

The clarity is similar to other material qualities, where the closer to 100 the sigil is, the better the sigil. There are specific terms associated in the end result of the sigil associated with the numeric quality of the sigil.
* A table-formatted list with the crafting properties of each type can be found on the Crafting Materials page.

Locations
The sigils can be found in various places across the realms determined by the room's mana concentration, urban level (city or rural) and season. Preliminary results suggest that the same pair of sigils, per room, in the Spring and Autumn are the same. Summer has a different pair per-room. Winter to be determined.
Rathan Houses are an extension of the Rathan political atmosphere -- originally led by Kings. Two Kings later, the Merchant Council took over the government and disbanded the monarchy entirely. In S'Kra Mur society, a person divides others into four groups, ru'at, smolgan, poho, and q'alri, a concept that is at the very core of S'Kra culture. This dividing is not always conscious, but it is purposeful as it changes how a S'Kra Mur addresses another person and can be used for everything from indicating respect and honor to distaste and hatred.

Q'alri / Stranger
;Strangers and outsiders.
These people may be treated politely or not -- and in many cases are treated with hostility. Even if treated with courtesy, these people mean inherently less than any others. The privileges of trust and honesty are not conferred on q'alrin unless they are earned; nor are such things expected from them.

There is absolutely nothing dishonorable about lying to, stealing from, or cheating an outsider, assuming it profits the S'Kra more than it harms the outsider.

* Q'alri - [Singular]
* Q'alarin - [Plural]

Smolgi / Friend
; Chosen friends.
These people are given trust and affection. A S'Kra Mur cares for their smolgan and considers them to be of importance in their life for one reason or another. Physical distance does nothing to change this designation.

It is possible for some smolgan to be closer than others. This does not change how they are spoken to or treated.

* Smolgi - [Singular]
* Smolgan - [Plural]

Poho / Respected Person
; Political leaders, Nobles, Guildleaders, Shaman, Gamant/Sraan leaders, et al.
These are people a S'Kra Mur affords the highest respect to, even if there is not a personal relationship between the two.

Poho are often mentors, nobles, or someone that is greatly admired for deeds they have performed. While it is is easy to confuse this group with societal groupings, those that a S'Kra Mur chooses as their Poho is up to their personal choices.

* Poho [Singular]
* Pohan [Plural]

Ru'at
; The core of S'Kra Mur society.
While there is not an actual translation for ru'at, this group is often called the inner circle. In this group are those closest to a S'Kra Mur's heart. Unlike the other groups, this is a group where the designation must be reciprocated and is perhaps why it is called an inner circle, since if it is not returned, the circle is broken.

Ru'atin are given complete trust and complete honesty and the same is expected from them. This group is the beating heart of every S'Kra Mur and is both private and personal. It is considered a deep honor to be brought into the ru'at of another and is not something often refused -- if ever. Likewise, it is also something that is never asked for.

Bringing another person into the ru'at is akin on many levels to offering them a piece of the S'Kra Mur's soul and trusting them implicitly with it, as well as getting a piece in return.

* Ru'at [Group]
* Ru'ati [Singular]
* Ru'atin [Plural]

Play.net Description
raceThe reigning theory of the origins of the S'Kra Mur is that Hav'roth, in all his forms, created them and imbued them with sentience -- a hypothesis no more and no less valid than Elothean creation myths.
<br />
<br/>
Whatever their origins, no one denies they are formidable in physical combat, combining the swiftness of a striking cobra and the strength of a bearhug from an enraged boa constrictor. While their scaly exterior may throw off those with warmer blood, S'Kra Mur hardly care what those races may think of them. In S'Kra Mur society, honor is measured by the length of one's tail -- and the opinions of those without simply aren't worth considering.

Character Creation
The S'Kra Mur figurine opens hooded eyes and gazes at you. A sibilant voice issues forth: "I am of the S'Kra Mur. We are the ssserpent folk. While we have two arms, two legs, a torso, and a head like any of the other races, our smile is the serpent's smile, our scales the serpent's scales, and our eyes the serpent's eyes. We strike like the snake with its agility and grace, and calculate our moves with the cold method that resides in our very blood. We are dangerous to encounter, and even more dangerous to cross."<br />
<br />
The S'Kra Mur stands tall and lithe, cold skin glistening with a faint tracery of scales. Slitted pupils slash its eyes down the middle and a short tail curls restlessly behind it. A chill presence lurks within its gaze, at once vaguely repulsive and strangely hypnotic.

The Origin Story
S'Kra Mur lore tells that originally, they were created as nothing more than monsters, albeit intelligent ones. The singular purpose of this creation was to bring discord. It was not until Hav'roth and Peri'el stepped in that the creatures they once were became recognized as a people. At the time of their uprising, they were the sixth of the Seven Peoples.

The story is told that it began with Ushnish. The Serpent of Discord, ever true to his moniker, created intelligent and deadly reptilians designed to harass and torment the Humans. Hav'roth looked at the creatures, and with his brilliant intuition he saw their unfulfilled potential. He gave them the gifts of the mind, further upraising them. Peri'el watched the cold, cruel acts these creatures committed and wept. She gave them the gifts of the tail. These gifts are oft referred to as the gifts of the heart by other races.

Play.net Description
raceThe reigning theory of the origins of the S'Kra Mur is that Hav'roth, in all his forms, created them and imbued them with sentience -- a hypothesis no more and no less valid than Elothean creation myths.
<br />
<br/>

<br />
