HERALD42: Added Lich Room Number for Shard favors.

RTOC
Favors of the Immortals are awarded to adventurers as a blessing for showing devotion through offerings and sacrifice. They are mostly used to avoid some of the consequences of death and allow a player to be resurrected by a cleric or depart.

To gain a Favor you must first obtain a Favor Orb bearing the name of one of the Immortals. Once you have obtained an orb, you're told that you must find a suitable sacrifice to fill the orb. All orbs (save Rakash) use the same sacrifice: your unabsorbed experience pool. The more favors or circles you have, the more experience is needed to fill them. In fact, one circle is the same as having one extra favor.

Uses
* The Favor command will tell you how many favors you have obtained, and which Immortal your last favor was with.
* A player must have at least one favor to be resurrected by a cleric. Having more favors makes this process easier/quicker.
:One favor is not the recommendation, it's the absolute mechanical minimum to be resurrected. The recommendation is a minimum of 15 favors.
* A favor is consumed whenever an adventurer departs, or when a cleric is resurrected using Murrula's Flames.
* Having sufficient favor allows a player to depart coins, depart items, or depart full.
* Being sacrificed by a cleric will instantly drain all favors from a player and prevent them from being resurrected.
* Having a sufficient number of favors will also unlock specific Religion titles.

Favor orb sources
* General altars in Zoluren,Therengia and Ilithi.
* Immortal-specific altars found in every province and documented on the altar list
* Player-character Clerics via Truffenyi's commune.

Only carry up to two favor orbs at the same time to fill. You'll need to fill and turn in a least one orb before you can get a third to successfully fill. In the event you pick up more (greater than 2) favor orbs, any successive orbs will waste the experience you feed into them.

Gaining Favors at General Altars
There are three general altars in the realms devoted to neutral aspects of the Thirteen that grant favor orbs. They can be found in:

Zoluren
* At the Siergelde ruins west of Crossing
<div class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" data-expandtext="" data-collapsetext="" style="float: left;">
Travel to the Circle of Stones at the stone grotto near the Siergelde Ruins on RanikMap3.
* DIR FAVOR will give you step by step directions to get to the stone grotto.

You will arrive here:

To get a favor orb:
#stand
#Get orb on altar

Upon getting the orb, an arch or trees will open up for you to proceed. In order to exit the favor area, you must solve a series of puzzles (the puzzles through the trees are generally the more difficult of the two).

* go arch: For a series of relatively easier puzzle tasks.
* go trees: For relatively more difficult puzzle tasks.

The puzzles vary, and typically require you to perform some task before you can leave the room. For example, you might need to open the window for a smothering plant, light candles, clean the altar, or slide levers up or down to unlock a door. After you have solved enough puzzles, you will return to the altar. The number of puzzles you must solve increases with the number of Favors you already posses.<br>
To leave the puzzle area prematurely (and fail the puzzle) you can drop my orb to destroy your orb and be teleported to the entrance of the favor area.

Once you've successfully exited the favor area, go to the Main Temple in Crossing.
* DIR TEMPLE will give you step by step instructions to the resurrection altar in the Main Temple located Southwest of the bank in Crossing documented on RanikMap1.

You will return your filled favor orb (see below) to the altar in this room upon the Temple grounds documented on RanikMap2:
Stained-glass gaethzen orbs circle the altar with a misty nimbus of violet light shading to crimson and then to amber and gold -- the colors of dawn and of life renewed. You also see an iron-bound oak door set in the far wall.<br>
Gaining Favors from Immortal-Specific Altars
There are a lot of altars strewn about the Realms that are dedicated to specific Immortals and several of them may be used to get an orb from that specific Immortal. Altars for the Thirteen and their light and dark aspects can be found in the Eyes of the Thirteen in the Crossing Temple.

Unlike the General Altars, the task to get a favor requires the sacrifice of a physical object; what object is acceptable is dependent on which Immortal that altar is dedicated to. For example, the Hodierna altar on the third tier of Ratha will take any of the proper offerings for Hodierna: healing herbs, unicorn beads, parchment unicorn primers, or Immortal Hodierna Cards.

You must put the sacrifice on the altar and pray. After about a minute the sacrifice will be replaced with a favor orb.

To use an aspect specific altar dedicated to a neutral or dark aspect, it usually must first be cleaned with i. Anyone with i may clean an altar. Necromancers are not encouraged to clean altars. A list of altars can be found here.

Immortal-specific altars only accept their own Immortal's orbs. Resurrection altars will accept favors from any Immortal.

: GO WIDDERSHINS (which is a counter clockwise direction) twice will take you to the stairs that leads to the Eyes of the Thirteen Chamber hallway which houses the individual Immortals and their aspects personal shrines.
: GO STAIRS will take you down there.
: GO CLOCKWISE three times will take you outside the Immortal Truffenyi's shrine.
: GO Platform to go to the Truffenyi section of this shrine
: At this step you will probably have to Clean the altar if it hasn't been done so recently. It requires i which can be put in a container, with this example using a chalice filled with holy water, with the container open.
: clean altar with i
: <Strong>An overwhelming sense of contentment fills you as your offering is consumed in a blinding flash of light. When your vision clears, a glowing Truffenyi orb rests in its place upon the altar.</Strong>
: Get Orb, and Hug my Orb to give it all the experience you can, or Rub my Orb to fill it a bit at a time, until full. You may not have enough experience to fill the orb, so you may put it in your container for safe keeping. <Strong>Favor Orbs Can Break, Handle With Care.</Strong>
: Eventually you will get the message <Strong>You sense that your sacrifice is properly prepared</Strong> when you try to Rub or Hug the orb, meaning you can put the orb on the altar for a Favor.
: Put orb on altar.
| Steps
|-
|
: As you start to place your Truffenyi orb on the altar it leaps from your hand and suddenly glows brightly, hovering just above the altar before it bursts into a flash of excruciatingly beautiful light which instead of dissipating, streaks around the area as tendrils of light representing every color of the rainbow.

:Then, an instant later, the multicolored lights gather around you and mix together, forming a white mass of brightness which completely obscures your vision. Slowly, the light fades and you feel somehow changed.
Gaining Prydaen Favors
race association is::Prydaen can now obtain the favor of Eu-Demrris-Tenemlor. Information can be obtained under Prydaen Favors.

Unlike favor orbs, it is possible to carry as many symbols as you wish. The symbols only drain specific experience pools and do not need to be returned to an altar; they automatically convert to favors when full.

Gaining Rakash Favors
race association is::Rakash can obtain favors in the Awksa Dzilvawta Ala outside of Siksraja. No experience sacrifice is required, though favors are capped at a maximum of six.

How to Fill Favor Orbs
When it comes to filling the orb there are two methods available to you, you can either rub the orb to take a small amount of experience from your active pools or you can hug the orb to give up all experience that has not been drained. You may rub a favor orb inside of a container, but must hold the orb to hug it.

Filled Levels
# glows faintly
# glows a steady pale (color)
# glows strong (color), wavering slightly
# glows a strong and steady (color)
# (no response when overfilled)

Orb Colors
Orb Colors vary by guild. There have been some cases of people claiming their orb does not match the prescribed color.

Favors have different descriptors the more experience you put into them, starting off with no color, then becoming pale, steady and finally strong before being properly prepared for sacrifice. If an orb is overfilled, such as by filling them and dying before redeeming them, looking at them will produce no reaction at all.
The Orb Myth
There is a prevalent myth about experience leaking from a favor. This most likely originated in the confusion with cambrinth orbs that leak mana.

Favors will never ever lose experience that has been placed inside it. The perception of "leakage" comes from when multiple orbs are filled simultaneously. The orb size is based solely on the number of favors and circles you have at the time of rubbing it.

If you have two orbs both at maximum experience and place one on an altar, the second orb will expand and need more experience since you now have more favors.

The same is true with departing. If you have an orb that is partially filled (based on the look) and die and depart, losing one or more favors, it can potentially be full when next rubbed.

Favor Orb Storage
Favor orbs cannot be safely stored 'off your person.' Although they can be placed on the ground, on objects (like tables), or in containers (like vaults) without immediate destruction, if left in any such place 'off your person' for too long favor orbs will shatter, leaving behind some i. When off your person a favor orb will emit a glow and then pulse light. When it begins to rapidly pulse light that is the final warning before it shatters. Keeping favor orbs on your person is the best way to keep them safe.

When stowed in a container on your person, a favor orb will message the room once a short time later. If that container is open the room will see a faint glow from that container, but if that container is closed the room will hear a low whine from the container instead.

Favors and the General Populace
Most people in Elanthia in fact do not have favors at all. This is one of the many reasons that the great masses of the lands tend to be both terrified of, and in awe of, Adventurers. It's also one of the reasons why wars and disasters and diseases are actually a big deal lore-wise -- most folks do not come back. They live one time, they die one time. This isn't because these people are just too lazy or stupid to try and gain favors.

Most of the masses of Elanthia:

* Live too far away to 'safely' take the treks to places that give favor orbs. They aren't trained in combat or survival and may never survive the journey.

* Don't seem to be able to fill the favor orbs if they manage to gain one. Does this mean the Immortals don't care about that type of memory? Maybe. Does this mean that the Immortals don't care to bring back the average person? Absolutely. Does anyone ICly know for sure why this happens this way? No, but being religion, people have their stories and theories and beliefs, certainly.

* Still pray and give their own types of offerings to the Immortals anyway, for a variety of reasons all related to trying to convince the Immortals to care about and do nice things for them, up to and including bringing them back if they die. It's just not a reliable transaction the way that favor orbs are for Adventurers. Sometimes a member of the greater masses has their prayers answered in a way that is undeniably the work of an Immortal, but a lot of times, it's not so easy to say if they were answered or not.
Two men stood outside, watching the starry night. One was forever young, the other forever old.

The young man, noticing his company for the first time, asked, "Who are you?"

The Old Man responded, "I am who I am."

This resulted in a pause from the young man, then a smirk. He said, "So you grace me with your presence finally."

"I reckoned it was time."

"What do you want?"

"Complex question, despite looking simple on the face of it. I want many things. To laugh, to grow," a pause, "to consume."

"There are very few things that scare me anymore and your off-handed remarks do not count among them."

"I did not come to scare you, I came to ask for your help."

<b>"My</b> help? What could I possibly offer you and how could you possibly make me care?"

"There is a change in the wind. I can feel it. The Moon Mages will soon notice it, too. I know in my gut it's another Necromancer."

"And you suspect me?"

"I still have a reason to care about the Philosophy. It must survive for at least a short while longer. I want you to help them."

The conversation drifted off with that, and both men stood quietly under the sky.

Finally, the young man spoke again, softly, "You've made a mistake."

The Old Man asked, "Oh?"

"You appeared here without summons, tried to threaten me with your honeyed words and then have the audacity to ask me to help some miserable upstarts. Not only are you a fool, but you grossly overstep your place."

Before the Old Man could react, the young man threw his hands outward. A blaze of blue energy, half-lightning half-cloud, erupted toward the Old Man and shredded his form like so much mist. When the magic cleared, what was left standing was a naked, grey figure, burnt beyond gender, with a halo of sunlight adorning its head. It mutely stared at the young man before vanishing where it had stood.

"Of course," the young man mused to himself, "With time, we can get ever so confused about who our friends are."
Also on my list. btw, you can fix this with REPAIR (tie-item). The verb REPAIR was added to the STUDY awhile back, but it seems no one has noticed it. It fixes most of the quirky issues that crop up by resetting the number of things tied to something by counting what's ON it rather than what's attached to it (which caused issues in the past.)

If you have an issue with your tie-item, please try REPAIR before you assist. Please DO BUG it though -- and please dear baby Demrris, only once because if I get seven bugs from the same person for the same bug I might come drop bone wyvern on you. (I'm joking. I just delete the duplicates from my inbox.)

Also, if you get an item stuck somewhere and it's acting like it's tied, LOOK at it. That'll fix it. GET also works this way. It's a bandaid, I know, but these are ways you can help yourself from being Ze Bork.
Please note the word tentative in the title before reading further.

Now that you've done that, here's the tentative list of damage barriers we're looking at after the review. They could still change due to balance reasons, player feedback (Which is why I'm posting them now), technical hurdles, whims of the voices in my head, mechanical nightmares, veto by the powers that be and so forth. Names are also subject to change, the ones in Italics are the ones I consider placeholders.

Not included right now are Traders (This project was big enough already), Barbarians and Thieves (In both cases they're close, but they use slightly different mechanics and I need to discuss them a bit more with other GMs, so I decided to not hold up publishing this list any further).

Also I intentionally didn't include difficulty or preqs - those are likely going to be one of the last things adjusted as the new spells take shape. A few of them are marked signature because they're spells we cannot do without making them signature. I expect others to gain that designation once we move into final designs.

As a reminder, moving forward, there will be two classes of barriers. You may only have one of each type at a time.

Aegis - This is a spell that lurks in passive mode, occasionally intercepting attacks to do a little bit of flat damage reduction pre-armor. When INVOKED they'll go into active mode for a few minutes where they have 100% proc rate, stronger damage reduction, and ablate - so the barrier can potentially break early. There is a variable cool down how often you can invoke an aegis.

Ward - This is % based reduction that occurs after armor. For the most part, this is how barriers work now.

Damage reduction is based on tier, generally 1-3, with larger numbers representing greater damage reduction.

Let's ignore possible GS4 tie ins for a moment.

Modern Empathy has a pretty good history, and we know that the First Empaths are associated with the Imperial era. Let's call it 1,500 years ago for simplicity. Maybe they're older, but that's the oldest known reference.

Modern Necromancy goes at least as far back at Sidhlot, who is... let's call it at minimum 3,400 years old. There is no indication it actually started there, mind you, that's "just" the oldest known Necromancer.
Heya folks,

I fixed a couple of things with SRE tonight. The cooldown that was supposed to be preventing using depart death while under the influence of Death's Sting has been set to properly operate, with a slight change. Instead of being flat out unable to use depart death, instead there will be an increasing amount of time after being killed before you can use it depending on how often you get killed before actually managing to fully wait out Death's Sting. So, if you die once, you can still use depart death immediately. If you then die while Death's Sting is in effect, you can either remain death for a few minutes and then use depart death, or immediately use other depart options. If the cycle continues, the minutes will ramp up slowly for each death. If at any point you live until Death's Sting expires, you will be back to being able to depart death immediately again.

I also fixed SRE to clear all engagements when it activates.

Let me know if you run into any problems with this update.
Three of three successful skins, poor quality. Took a few minor hits from the thrown axes, if in parry with two-handed, health stayed at "no significant injuries". Easily (three swing kills) hit them with HE (542) and 2HE (482) once I tingled the shields out of the their hands. With shields in hand I hit approx. three out five with HE. CL was hitting about 40% of the time. If I got rid of their shields CL hit with every bolt.Goblin
Description
The black race is::goblin stares back at you with pale green eyes. Taller than an average Human and with a broad barrel chest, the black goblin supports its muscular frame on slightly bowed legs. Its thick ebon skin is heavily creased and resembles charred wood, an adaptation this breed has developed to blend easily into the shadows. The black goblin wears crudely stitched patchwork hunting leathers and a lopsided smirk. A woven harness filled fitted with numerous dull iron hurling axes is slung haphazardly over its shoulder, rattling softly against each other with every narrow stride.
__NOTOC__

Description
One of the legendary predators that skulk the face of Elanthia, the wyvern embodies the perfect combination of raw killing strength and razor-keen intelligence. Hunched forward on two immense legs, the wyvern towers at nearly twenty feet tall, ready to lash outwards at a moment's notice. Sharp serpentine features grace its enormous triangular skull, occasionally curling its maw with a rumbling snarl to display the scimitar-sized serrated fangs, perfect for tearing flesh from bone.

Recall
Hatching from eggs, wyverns take a fairly long time to mature, and are usually born in clutches of eighteen to twenty eggs that can weigh nearly a hundred pounds each. Adult wyverns are fully capable of flight and can grow to massive sizes.

Adult wyverns are massive, intelligent, and well known to prey on lesser-skilled adventurers, enjoying the challenge of hunting them. In addition, they can inflict a lethal dose of poison to their victims, and are fully capable of burning them to a crisp.

It is well known that wyverns will eat anything that moves, including unlucky adventurers. Thus, their stomachs are often a treasure trove of coins and items.
Description
Small, thankfully unidentifiable black creatures crawl around in the orc reiver's greasy grey hair. With fastidious personal habits of a peccary in a mud-pit, the reiver stops from time to time to pick one of the insects off her scalp and pop it into her mouth, smacking her lips greedily as she chews. Standing no more than a hand's width higher than the average human, the reiver's musculature is considerably more dense, with thick bones and an almost ape-like curve to its skull.

A red bear paw has been tattooed on her shoulder, identifying her as a member of the member of::red bear clan of race is::orcs.

Description
The arbelog stands about six feet in height, humanoid in appearance, with inordinately long, muscular arms and prehensile-toed feet. It is covered with thick brown fur, lighter at the belly and face, a dark stripe running down its back. Large heavily lidded eyes peer out over a flat wrinkled nose and nearly lipless mouth.

In Depth
It is wearing nothing!<br>
It is carrying nothing!

Trivia
In 1996, arbelogs are where the high level characters went to hunt, since the boxes contained gold coins. They still yield around 1,000 Lirums per box.

Notes
TM hard caps at 100 ranks.<br>
Defenses hard cap at 91 ranks.<br>
Weapons crawl beyond 80, possibly with an 85 hard cap. The bears and rams won't teach weapons at all past 80.<br>
Not recommended below 80 defenses, and unfortunately only teach up to 90. Multiple arbelogs can be quite dangerous below 90, especially once you build up any sort of burden.<br>
The only hunting area that spawn these (West of Riverhaven) is also a spawning area for Meadow Rams and Black Bears, both of which stop teaching significantly earlier than Arbelogs. Furthermore, the bears almost always go after the other critters before engaging players. Bears will work together to kill all rams and arbelogs in an area before going after a hunter. Rams and arbelogs act normally, going after the hunter and ignoring the bears unless engaged with them.<br>
It is possible (though very rare) for dusk ogres to wander into this area from the nearby cave, but they aren't dangerous if you're hunting here.<br>

Skinning and Lockpicking
Arbelogs train skinning fairly well in the mid-60s.

Boxes are at-level within the range of approximately 60-70 ranks. Could probably pick carefully a bit earlier.

Description
Thick, articulated hide plating covers the desert armadillo from its dripping, twitchy snout to its barbed tail. Perfectly adapted to blend into a desert environment, the animal's coloration is a mottled patchwork of sand and tan. With powerful claws for digging protective burrows, a barbed tail, and flexible plating that allows the creature to roll itself up tightly, the armadillo appears well built to defend itself.

In Depth
Special Attacks
Webbing: An adult desert armadillo rears up and spews forth a blast of stringy white webbing at you!

Combat Notes
*Standard Attacks: Armadillos use their claws to swipe, swing, slash, and lash at opponents.
*Armadillo Shields: Armadillos use their scale plating as an extraordinarily effective shield. Players should use attacks that bypass shield, such as the Lightning Bolt spell, or use blunt weapons to attack.

Inventory/Loot
It is wearing nothing!<br />
It is carrying nothing!

Area Information
The Dunes of Despair is a vast maze, but it is stable, so if you can read the twisted map you might be able to escape. The Dunes of Despair used to be inhabited by westanuryn and mihmen, but they have been replaced by adult and elder armadillos.

Miscellaneous
Armadillos were introduced into DragonRealms in early 2007. They first appeared as part of an invasion on the Northern Trade Route along side War Mammoths and other upper level creatures. They were a devestating force, especially the Elder Desert Armadillo. However, since that first invasion their skill level has become even higher.

* Stealths cap UNDER 1400 ranks. My lowest stealth at time of testing was 1400, and I learned nothing. Elders still teach a nice bit above this.
* Perception from HUNT and spotting Adults caps at LESS than 1350 perception.
* Per Madigan, 552 skinning seems gets about 30-40% success rate for skinning without any arranges.
These spawn in the same area with Arbelogs and Meadow rams, but seem to always want to kill all other creatures (besides other bears) before engaging players. The hunting range listed here is really low, at least if you're going to be hunting here. Observing them fight, the bears and arbelogs seem to be evenly matched, with their offenses always outstripping defenses. It's usually just a slugfest of last animal standing, with the victor draining the loser's vitality first.
The Xala'shar archimage shuffles about limply, its chest heaving with great difficulty as it struggles to draw breath underneath the robust fabric of the cloak. Its large, emaciated hands are bound tightly in several layers of filthy bandages, elongated fingers straining to grasp its staff. Carefully secured to the surface of its robes, a shimmering armor of polished chains surround its withered fame in a web of rattling gold, each link painstakingly engraved with a fluid scrawl. The deep hood of its robe has been pulled low across the face, concealing it from view, a never-ending stream of muttered babble issuing from within its black depths. Countless bloody skulls impaled upon golden hook and chains have been suspended from a black gold mantel set low across the Xala'shar archimage's shoulders, its surface adorned with shards of dark bone surrounded in a jagged scrawl.
Description
Looming nearly six feet high and at least half as wide, the Xala'shar shredder lumbers about with heavy footfalls that cause its enormous gut to jiggle like a bowl of warm pudding. Thick plates of jagged bone protrude from the surface of its scarred flesh to wind around its body like a suit of living armor. Running along the top of its callused hands are five bloodstained bone claws, reinforced with hammered steel plates, that curve outwards at nearly twice the length of its flabby forearms. Winding tails of jagged scar tissue curl across its mismatched patches of flesh, precariously held together with an intricate web of waxy-black thread. An enlarged lower jaw displays a row of crooked teeth, their yellowed surfaces curling upward past the upper lip to recede into blunted tips beneath its broad nose.
Equipment
Special
A hulking Xala'shar shredder brandishes its bloodstained bone claws with coarse laugh and bellows, "Little one, this day... I will dine upon your flesh!<br />
Moving with surprising agility the Xala'shar shredder lurches forward and swipes curved bone claws at you with a gutteral roar!<br />
In a blur of motion, the bone claws cut through the air with a low whoosh, their wickedly honed edges tearing into your flesh with ease. A deep and unbearable pain rips through your body as your right arm is brutally severed from body in a shower of blood and fractured bone, and falls the ground with a wet thud.
The Xala'shar thrall has willingly chosen to embark upon its dark path, one day hoping to rise in glory within the ranks of the Xala'Shar. A pulsing black slime, surrounded in an oozing mass of necrotic skin, covers the side of its face. Partially visible along its lower arm, several small runestones have been sewn into its flesh, dully shimmering with a faint green light. <br / ><br / >
