|desc=Calculated Rage is an adaptation of empathic manipulation to a more specific degree. The pattern allows the magician to simultaneously tightly control and yet also heighten their anger. Letting it go in a RAGE at a target will produce a fleeting transference of this state to the recipient, often confusing and putting them on the back foot in combat.

Due to the need for physical contact, the "raging" is only effective at melee range. Also note that misuse of the spell by failing to empathize with the target, be it unliving or due to the magician's own lack of empathy, can have emotionally exhausting results.

You sense the presence of the Calculated Rage spell isolating a vast reserve of emotion in your mind. The spell should last around nine roisaen or until you have unleashed your RAGE six more times.

Damaging:<br />
>rage<br />
You discharge a portion of the Calculated Rage spell.<br />
There is no connection there, no empathy to be had. Fury without release builds in a split second a white hot, certain thing. You reach out violently for catharsis.

>rage person<br/ >
You discharge a portion of the Calculated Rage spell.<br/ >
You make contact with Person and release your spike of rage! Person reels in confusion.

Third party:<br/ >
Empath pushes against Person with modest force. Despite appearing unharmed, Person reels and seems positively out of sorts.
Notes
* CR is a Mental Preparation TM spell that has a heavy conceptual debt to Blufmor Garaen and Icutu Zaharenela. You pre-cast it and it gives you a number of uses of the RAGE verb that you can use at your discretion. This attack, depending on factors, if successful will result in a potent defensive penalty to your victim, or a melee-range TM attack with a substantially weaker but still useful defensive penalty attached.
* Basically: for shocked empaths it's like a limited-use IZ with a defense penalty attached. For normal Empaths, it's a non-damaging attack that does a considerably larger and longer-acting defense penalty.
* The spell requires melee range to function.
* The spell pierces spell wards. Calculated Rage's are treated as non-magic for the purposes of many anti-magic defenses like Shear, Turtle Form, and Sanyu Lyba.
* Brawling factors slightly into the attack.
* It can't be dispelled as a spell effect, but anything that explicitly removes defense debuffs would affect this as well.
* The debuff is extremely short, less than a minute even for healthy Empaths, even shorter as a damaging attack rider.
* The debuff is based on the potency of the attack, which is influenced by both TM skill and mana.
* "Defense factor" is the math that happens to your defensive skills that is then compared against the attackers corresponding "offense factor". CR basically modifies the output of the formula that your skills/stats play into to determine your defensive factor.

Effects
The debuff strength is based on the potency of the attack, which is influenced by both Targeted Magic and mana amount. The bigger the hit, the bigger the debuff. (In the case of a non-damaging strike, the damage is still calculated but just "thrown out" afterward.)
T'Kiel grins brightly at you. "Yes, that's a technique I can teach you. It doesn't actually do anything to the earth, of course -- a name is just a name. However, I can show you the necessary unity of body, mind, and spirit that will allow you to make use of this technique. With that unity and proper use, you can cause such fear that your enemies will wilt before you, losing their balance."
The pattern creates an ethereal plant which is capable of healing those that need its aid, and the Empath can in turn heal their created plant. This may prove useful in assisting individuals when the Empath cannot be physically present. The Empath can return at a later point in time, or recasting the spell will recreate the plant nearby, wounds and all. ==Interactions==
* study: Empathically linked to its creator, the vela'tohr plant is capable of healing, albeit slowly, non-Empaths who avail themselves to its abilities. You recognize this plant as your own, and feel that you could transfer its injuries to yourself via a tap, touch, pull, or hug, the increased contact increasing the amount of wounds transferred. Be careful, the vela'tohr plants are sturdy, and capable of withstanding significant damage!
* look:
: The vela'tohr plant is a large, stalky bush. Its thick stem supports numerous coiled tendrils, which sway gently as if searching for something. Giant dark green leaves yawn open from the base of the stalk, revealing a myriad of brilliant flowers.
: The plant <health message>.
:* possible health messages from least to most damage:
::* The plant appears to be in good condition.
::* The plant has some scrapes and discolorations along the leaves and stem.
::* The plant has several torn leaves, and the main stem bears some cuts that are leaking green sap.
::* The plant shivers periodically, torn leaves and broken stems hanging limply as sap drips from its wounds.
::* The plant has pulled into itself under shredded leaves and oozing stems.
::* The plant has coiled itself into a tight ball, the remains of its shredded leaves sticking to sap encrusted stems.
* All four of the "healing" verbs have the same initial message. They are different on how much the empath heals the plant, with TAP taking a small amount of damage, HUG taking a very large amount of damage and TOUCH & PULL moderate amounts. The messaging is:
: You reach out to touch your vela'tohr plant and it extends a green branch, soft leaves curling against your flesh with a cool tingle. You feel an empathic connection forming between you and your vela'tohr plant. ==Description==
Standing at seven feet in height, the ape seems to be composed entirely of muscle. The ape's black fur is weathered with its eyes vigilant for intruders of its domain. There is silver fur running across the ape's chest.

Recall
This is a black ape of Paasvadh Forest.<br/>
The apes are known for their feats of strength.<br/>
The ivory teeth and fur pelts of the apes are highly prized by the locals.

In Depth
WARNING: Black Ape area is full of mud. If you don't have good athletics you may be permanently stuck until someone helps you out! Apes also throw bones as a ranged attack that are very damaging to shields.
I found that if you get stuck and cant dig your way out, you can make a kill and then move along with no rt.

Will occasionally dig up an w that it can use as a weapon. Note that the bone cannot be picked up.<br>
A black ape digs into the earth for a moment before letting out a happy grunt upon finding an old bone!

This creature is resistant to electricity.

~ in DR 3.1 all apes will pick up an old bone moments after locating an adventurer
110th Ranger with 70 agil + reflex, 600 evasion, 550+ in all defensive skills i can dance with 4.
Stealth of 580, 460 bow and 440 xbow kill apes fine
Edged are all 440-450 and i struggle to kill apes because of their parry. (including ambushing)

~ 7/31/2016<br />
Ideal training range seems to be from 500 to 700.<br />
Backstab still locking at 660.<br />
Stealth still locks at 700 by sniping at melee, but rather slowly.
500 shield, 590 parry, 650 evasion they barely touch me.

Still teaches evasion at 846 but does not move off dabbling. Does not teach Parry at 914

~ 2/21/2022
Weapons locking at 734
Parry soft capped around 740-745

~ 8/9/2022
Looks like about 375 or 376 is the sweet spot where dissect starts to become about a 50/50 shot on apes. 370 failed almost every time, 371 failed frequently with an occasional success. All three characters had the same stats and the same survival tert skill placement.

|desc=Absolution is a bitter spell, one which the Khalo refuse to teach. Nonetheless it has propagated in the corners of the Five Provinces for its sheer utility. By undergoing the ritual of Absolution, an Empath may dull his talent. While detrimental to his healing and general bodily health, it has one dramatic advantage: while the dampening effect remains, the Empath is too far removed from the twisted life essence of the Undead to empathize with them. RTOC

If memory serves, this bowl is tool used by Moon Mages to scry into the future. You remember that bowls carved with such sigils are divination tools used by Moon Mages and preferred by those mages that call themselves the Prophets of G'Nar Peth. Traditionally carved from a single piece of sandstone and etched with the mysterious sigils only Moon Mages seem to understand, scrying bowls are used by mages trained in astrology as a tool for divination. It is said that the first bowls were filled with water from the Garden of G'Nar Peth, though whether that is a legend held by the Prophets themselves or merely a tale told by outsiders is unclear.

General Information
Usage
As with any prediction tool, the mage must INVOKE a bond with a divination bowl before it can be used to make a prediction:

>invoke my bowl<br>
You cautiously extend your prophetic talent towards your starstone bowl. You find the vessel empty and allow your aptitude to flow into the bowl, completing it and leaving it prophetically aware.

Before use, the mage must FILL the divination bowl with water as a prophetic ingredient:

>fill my bowl with water<br>
You fill the bowl with water.

The mage will only need to replace the water if the bowl experiences a critical fumble, which will dump the water from the bowl.

Syntax
After making a successful observation of a celestial body:
* ALIGN <skill set/skill> (2 seconds)
* GAZE my bowl: To perform a prediction on yourself. (10 seconds)

* SHOW my bowl to <person>: To specify your prediction target. (2 seconds)
* GAZE my bowl: To perform a prediction upon that <person>. (10 seconds)
For more information, see the Prediction article.

Notes
*While holding the bowl in one hand, the second hand must be empty to swirl and manipulate the water during a prediction. Otherwise, the mage will need to empty the other hand and start over at the ALIGN step.

*If a bowl without water is used for a prediction, the messaging will alert the mage as to what is wrong:

>gaze my bowl<br>
You gaze at a starstone bowl fitted to a clockwork base, but get the feeling something is missing.

*Bowl role playing verbs that work only or message differently for G'nar Pethians: DROOL at, KISS, PAT, and WINK.

Qualities
Physical Qualities
Raesh once said that he believed that bowls would give a slight bonus to lore predictions.

*The interior of the bowl is horrifically chipped and a large crack runs through the center.

Alignment damage
Alignment damage can be determined by the brightness of the sigils.
*The six major sigils radiate brightly, the complex network between them is perfectly illuminated.
*The six major sigils radiate brightly like the sun.

Polarity damage
Polarity damage is reflected in the shadows that appear.
*The inner rim instantly forms a perfect circle of shifting Katamba black.
*The inner rim is rapidly eclipsed by the shadows.
*The inner rim takes what feels like an eternity to darken.

Bond Qualities
* As far as is known, Thanatology predictions are impossible. Attempting an alignment on Thanatology will incur a stun, give an unclean soul, and trigger the following message:

Pain! A concept erupts from the back of your mind, cold and crushing. For a few, sharp moments you experience The End -- the death of stars and the deconstruction of fate as a metaphysical force.
The death of the universe orbits... something. Some force or some entity. Something you cannot see that you have an unconscious need not to.<br>
It sees you.
Polarity
The polarity is seen in the color of the sigils.

* ALIGN <skill set/skill> (2 seconds)

Potency damage
Potency damage is indicated by the porosity of the sandstone.
*The stone's porosity is reminiscent of mistglass.
*The stone is unbelievably porous.
*The stone is extremely porous.
*The stone is very porous.
*The stone is rather porous.
*The stone has an above average porosity.
*The stone is of average porosity.
*The stone has a below average porosity.
*The stone is rather nonporous.
*The stone is very nonporous.
*The stone is extremely nonporous.
*The stone is completely nonporous.

Duration damage
Duration damage manifests as the smoothness of the bowl's interior.
*The interior of the bowl is perfectly rounded, without the slightest bump or crack.
*The interior of the bowl is perfectly rounded.
*The interior of the bowl is exceptionally well-rounded and smooth.
*The interior of the bowl is very well-rounded.
*The interior of the bowl is well-rounded.
*The interior of the bowl is rounded.
*The interior of the bowl is worn in a few spots.
*The interior of the bowl is no longer round and has a few chips.
*The interior of the bowl is quite bumpy and uneven.
*The interior of the bowl has several cracks and chips.
*The interior of the bowl is marred by cracks and several large chips.

*The six major sigils glow prominently, not unlike gaethzen.
*The six major sigils glow steadily like moonlight.
*The six major sigils twinkle like stars.
*The six major sigils glisten as parts of the sigils fade in and out.
*The six major sigils glow faintly as occasional shadows wind through the network.
*The six major sigils have become quite dim.
*The six major sigils fade in and out.
*The six major sigils struggle to remain illuminated.
*The six major sigils are damaged, giving off only a faint glimmer of light.
*The six major sigils are in terrible shape, stifled and barely luminescent.

Polarity damage
Polarity damage is reflected in the shadows that appear.
*The inner rim instantly forms a perfect circle of shifting Katamba black.
*The inner rim is rapidly eclipsed by the shadows.
*The inner rim rapidly darkens.
*The inner rim ripples as it transitions to darkness.
*The inner rim turns a shadowy black.
*The inner rim fogs over with shadows.
*The inner rim is obscured by shadows plodding their way around its circumference.
*The inner rim leisurely darkens as shadows drift over its surface.
*The inner rim darkens with a noticeable delay.
*The inner rim takes a while before beginning to darken.
*The inner rim eventually grows dim.
*The inner rim takes what feels like an eternity to darken.

Bond Qualities
When you analyze the bowl, you will have a vision about a vessel. This reflects your bond with the bowl.

Potency bond
How full the vessel is with water.<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level is terribly low, mostly droplets at the bottom. (1/10)<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level just covers the bottom. (2/10)<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level is enough to dip your fingers into.(3/10)<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level is only about a quarter full.(4/10)<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level is less than half full.(5/10)<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level is extremely-well filled, coming to just below the rim. (9/10)<br>
Your mind's eye sees that vessel's water level is perfectly filled, the surface of the water domes slightly over the rim. (10/10)<br>

Duration bond
The stillness of the water.<br>
The surface of the water sloshes violently back and forth. (1/10)<br>
The surface of the water climbs the sides of the vessel as it splashes about. (2/10)<br>
The surface of the water is extremely still, with only a slight waver in the reflections. (9/10)<br>
The surface of the water is perfectly still, creating a gorgeous reflecting pool. (10/10)<br>

Alignment bond
The clarity of the water.<br>
The liquid within the vessel is tenebrous and murky, blocking out anything beneath the surface. (1/10)<br>
The liquid within the vessel is perfectly clear, like fresh spring water. (Skill 10/10).

Polarity bond
Any debris in the water.<br>
The water is terribly foul, with large pieces of floating debris.(1/10)<br>
The water is riddled with suspended bits of dark debris.(2/10)<br>
The water suspends threads of black debris.(5/10)<br>
The water has chips of paint floating in it.(6/10)<br>
The water is mostly strained of debris.(7/10)<br>
The water is without debris, but some sediment has settled to the bottom.(8/10)<br>
The water is almost flawless, without any obstructing debris.(9/10)<br>
The water has been perfectly filtered, not even an air bubble clings to the bottom.(10/10)<br>

Age and construction qualities
These are identical for all types of tools. See Prediction for a list of both.

Interpretation
Potency
|}

Introduced as Tuesday Tidings 156.

Description
Small and spindly, the moltspun boggle is a member of the Fae, its body composed seemingly of bits of animal discard. Tufts of fur, transparent scales, some teeth, and a couple shed antler pieces compose this bizarre humanoid-shaped entity. The moltspun boggle is continually on the lookout for more material to add to its body and has been observed sneaking up to woodland creatures of any size and grabbing fistfuls of fur before beating a hasty retreat. To their credit, they are quite nimble -- the only real defense they have against the consequences of their mischief.

Recall
It is unclear if these creatures are a product of Idon's whims or errant Fae magics, but they do appear to have fit themselves into a strange ecological niche of gathering up animal discards. They are considered little more than a nuisance, as their thievery targets of choice are "things about to fall off an animal or plant anyway". Adventurers have been advised to wear their hair under a cloak or otherwise hidden, and to ensure that their clothing is free of frayed edges.

Curiously, none have been observed incorporating living material into their bodies. Whether a preference or limitation of their ability to gather, the moltspun boggle appears to only desire sheds or molts of any type.

Notes
When their legs are destroyed, these boggles can try to repair them, and observing it will teach some First Aid at below 50 ranks.

Example: Growling to itself, a moltspun boggle grabs a nearby stick and begins to mend its right leg.
1 - Outside of quality, bolt shaft material stats have no influence on the finished arrow product. Less workable woods will require more than 50 engineering ranks to shape a bolt shaft. <br>
2 - All boltheads are equally easy to shape. Material workability is not a factor.
__NOTOC__

Description
The giant is as tall as the mountains it was named for, with legs the size of large trees and arms resembling slightly smaller ones. A thick layer of rock-strewn moss dangles from its shoulders and back, held securely by the root structure of the numerous juvenile saplings winding around its stone grey flesh. Thick verdant hair, littered with shards of bone and discarded food, falls in coarse layers from its head and narrow jaw, frame the sunken features of its craggy visage. Sunken red eyes, though showing little intelligence, reveal unrestrained hostility towards anything that may be considered food, no matter the size!

In Depth
They don't move evasion (survival tert) or other defenses off dabbling at 520.

With 50 reflex/agility these are NOT huntable as a survival secondary class with 350 shield/parry and 400 evasion. Can handle 2 at melee, but 4 is a continuous string of solid hits. Another issue arises with the fact that they can fight you at melee AND ranged. I've had situations where two of them are on me at melee and two are launching boulders at me, making it near impossible to stance dance. In my opinion, based on extensive testing, these are now significantly more difficult than Orc Raiders (2/19/2016)
Can throw a w.
*NB: it should be noted that significant numbers of these critters will "shrug off" magical attempts to stun them
*Probably due to the fact that they have 100 strength increasing their fortitude defense in a spell contest.

60 reflex and 63 agility evasion at 517 evasion won't come off 3/34 with 4 at melee. 5/10/2017.

* some i
* an i

Notes
* Very high spawn rate.
* Creature has above average strength - harder hits.
* Boulders fill the room very quickly, but decay when you attempt to pick them up.

Notes
* This spell is required to be in effect to perform magical research tasks. Higher potency will equate to lower research times for research projects.
:*At spell cap this gives a 20% reduction to research times. (E.g. a base 15 minute research project only takes 12 minutes with a capped cast.)
* Can be purchased at the Crossing Artificer Herilo's Artifacts.
