>>I think Dartenian, Aurdun, and I have all made it clear that we think Barbarians understanding and using magic should be a generally bad idea.

>>Using it, definitely. Understanding it? Eh, as long as we're not delving into esoterica and details about when/why/how to use it, I would think figuring out it's magic before the silent alarms go off should be ok. Telling the difference between a hostile spell meant to hurt things and one intended for beneficial use (even if said use is bad for barbarianism) would allow us to react faster with an appropriate response that would dampen the effects if BMR didn't get the job done.

Seeing as how this was a response in regards to the comprehension of scrolls and we've said before that they aren't all labeled at the top in clearly written common with a title, I think delving into the esoterica is pretty accurate.

Telling the difference between a hostile spell and a beneficial one as it is being cast, I'd be curious how you see this occuring. Right now the average magical user can only identify spell patterns that they themselves know when being cast by someone else. The only exception to that of which I'm aware is when a Moon Mage actively percieves someone in the process of casting a spell. So how would a non-magical guild member gain a greater understanding of magic than say a Cleric?
