Necromancer Guild Release (no, not a hoax this time) · on 12/12/2009 23:30 25
The Necromancer Guild, or more precisely the organization of the Philosophers of the Knife, began accepting students (in all instances simultaneously) at 6 PM CST Friday the 11th of December. The quest area is open in all instances and ten fabulously intelligent puzzle-solvers found the guild, as far as I know with little to no helping of each other or from anyone. Kudos to those ten, they were all told which number they were and although I am not going to reveal them, they are quite welcome to be proud of it.

The first player to join this way did so at just about noon CST on Saturday the 12th, and the tenth did so at 12:30 AM on Sunday the 13th.

In addition, three players were let in shortly after the area was open to the public as the first PC Necromancers. They were allowed in for a long history of exemplary roleplay and dedication to the guild for years and years. Beyond a short little event, they were set out on equal footing with everyone else who joined through the quest.

The Necromancer Guild is releasing with 20 spells, 19 of them on preview (and will stay that way for about one week). The 20th spell, Spiteful Rebirth, can't be previewed anyway due to how it works, so it was left out.

As of this post, I am going to allow posting about Necro abilities and spells and you can expect GM responses. What you may not post is anything about the join quest or location of the Necromancer Guild or any puzzles existant now or in the future.

It's been a very long road for some of you. For me, it began about a year and a half ago when I agreed to take over as Lead Developer for the Necromancer Guild and promised to Solomon a release of this year. It got a little tighter than I'd have liked, but we made it and with a few weeks to spare. However, I am but one of many who deserves praise for this release, so I'm going to take a little bit to detail a few people who put in effort above and beyond. This is by no means a list of everyone who worked on the current guild.

  • Armifer: The co-lead for Necromancer Development, without Armifer's extreme dedication to lore and magnificent way with words, we never would have gotten to release. He did significant magic and backbone core work to get the guild out, but I think his passion to the lore is what really helped make a lot of things shine
  • Grejuva: In addition to writing several of the Necromancer spells and helping flesh out boundless lore on the Clerical side of things, he was integral in getting lots of things through QC and making sure my code was a lot better than how it started. He helped out immensely on the events side as well.
  • Abasha: Abasha is an area writing fiend as well as a rising star in the coding arts. Without her we would not have made nearly so awesome a quest or guild for you guys to partake in. Her dedication to the game is exhausting to us lesser beings who are constantly amazed at how much work she can put out in a short amount of time.
  • Solomon: Without Solomon's extensive support in helping push things through, get things approved and ready to go, and help directing some of the CE side of things, it never would have gone so smoothly. I'd like to thank him for believing in us, and especially our vision for the guild, and doing what it took to let everyone involved in the project shine and give you their best.

Again, many more GMs worked on parts of it big and small, in creation, QC, eventing, at least half of staff.

I'm not really going to spend any time talking about mechanics or anything in this post, there'll be plenty of time for that later. To all the rest of the hopefuls, I want to say: happy searching, and I hope you enjoy what you ultimately find! It was a labor of love for a lot of us, and despite a bit of playful sadism in the guild itself it was certainly made so that you, the players, would have fun with it.
