Void dates are actually pretty required for vouchers these days. The standard is 30 days, but certain types of special vouchers will sometimes have longer validity periods.

Most vouchers only require that you make contact with the GM before the void date and are actively working towards getting the voucher-thing completed with them. Some vouchers do require the entire shebang be done before the void date, but in those (much more rare) cases, this is noted upfront with the voucher and the GM involved is also committing to be extremely active on their end of things as well.

If you have a voucher with any kind of void date and say, the GM gets extremely sick or their computer explodes, or whatever -- you won't be penalized for elapsed time that was out of your control. You have to start the process within the valid period, but if you're holding up your end of the voucher per its void terms, we will hold up ours even if the unforeseen occurs.

If you get a voucher through any means, always make sure to LOOK at it and READ it immediately so that you know exactly when the void date is and so you are certain on any other terms relating to its validity. Even if you think you know exactly what's going on with the voucher already, doing this trips things in the voucher system that are very good to have moving and documented for you. It's a good idea to email the address on the voucher asap too, even if you don't have a full idea of what you'll be using the voucher for just yet. This way any other details can be explained, and you're already showing good faith work towards completing the voucher's terms.
